The 39 Steps - 7/10
Some annoying characters, but generally enjoyable.
One of the few Hitchcock films I hadn't seen.

A Silent Voice - 9/10
I'd had this on blu-ray for a while and had forgotten about it, but the attack on KyoAni was a slightly morbid reminder that I had it and should watch it.
Very good, with some powerful messages.

Snowpiercer - 6/10
Thought this was okay. The unusual premise is what elevates it above being just average, for me.

Spider-Man: Far From Home

Despite what I'd read I was still surprised to find the tone really is quite light and playful for the majority of the film, with a fair amount of slapstick style humour, although at times the film felt a little all over the place and unbalanced with some of the tonal shifts. I liked most of the cast, with Tom Holland continuing to impress as a believably young, awkward teen version of Peter, but it was Gyllenhaal who really stood out. Certainly a good Marvel film but not amongst the best for me personally. 7/10

The post credits scenes were definitely interesting, although I'm not sure I know enough about the Marvel universe to really understand the potential ramifications of the final scene...

Ralph Breaks the Internet - 6/10

My son purchased this for me on Amazon a few months ago ( :x ) and I figured if I spent £14.99 then I ought to actually bloody watch it.

It’s ok, not as good as the first movie but it’s not awful. The scenes with the Disney Princesses were the best bits.

at least it was only £14.99. The other day I noticed a £39.99 PayPal payment to Microsoft. I then checked PayPal and saw my kids had spent £180 on Brawlhalla coins. I'm skint as it is. I actually went overdrawn and everything a day later due to bills. strawberry floating kids.

He was only 2 at the time so I couldn’t really blame him. It was my fault for not setting up a passcode for purchases.

£180 though :dread: I’d rather he become an alt-right nationalist. :dread:

Problem is I don't know which one did it, it was either my 8 or 6 year old. So not happy about it though :(

Nightmare scenario! Sounds bad saying it as it's still a lot of money, but at least it wasn't even worse :dread:

Literally the first thing I did when setting up my PS4 the other day was stick the restrictions on purchases. Now I just need to make sure the kids don't crack my password!

Shazam!

Not sure what to make of this. It's not a disaster like most DC movies - but it's also not great.

It's surprisingly childish/simple really. I mean lots of comic movies are, but this felt very on the nose. The cast are fine, but the plot and pacing are pedestrian.
Also quite cheap looking.

Mom and Dad is a brilliant movie. Selma Blair looks incredible as always and the use of Chains of Love by Erasure is fantastic. Also the last 10 minutes and final few lines closes the film perfectly.

Hobbs and shaw 7/10

Yes it’s dumb and yes it’s ridiculous but it was actually damn entertaining. The charisma of the rock and statham really carries it, and it was actually pretty funny. Perhaps went on a little too long and the final third felt weak but I was smiling nearly the whole way through and if (when) they do the inevitable sequel sign me up.

Oh and Ryan Reynolds channeling deadpool was a highlight

Austin Powers 2 - 8/10

Finally got my hands on a blu ray copy, had to get it from Amazon Italy as it's not available on UK blu ray for some reason (even though films 1 and 3 are).

John Wick 2 - He runs funny. The the spark for these films was Harry Potter but with guns and assassins.

Hateful Eight - strawberry floating hell
It took me months to watch this. In the end, I think the only reason I stuck with it and watched most of it yesterday, was because for some reason Netflix stopped keeping track of where I last watched it to. So every time I stopped I'd have to FF to the relevant bit. It got v annoying.

Hereditary - Goodbye peaceful sleep. I wish the ending had was slightly more fleshed out. Just a bit.

Hobbs and Shaw - 5/10

Full film is in the trailer.

It's banter, action, banter, action. Banter is written by a computer who has downloaded every odd couple buddy cop film ever. Action is threat free and heavy on the slow oo.

It's alright but it's made for people who thought the fast and the furious was a bit of a thinking man's film. This is not a thinking man's film. It's a film about 2 men who play exaggerated versions of themselves in a world where everything can be solved by punching.

Guardians of the Galaxy 2 - 6/10

That was an inferior sequel. The script wasn't as snappy, the pacing was bad, it was a bit contrived in some respects.

That's what I thought! Pretty much everyone sees it as a superior film but I just don't get it. The themes are stronger, the parent and child relationship thing residually, but they're handled so cackhandedly and the formula is such a copy of the first film I quickly got bored.

I liked GotG2 but I don’t know anybody that thinks it’s a superior movie to the first.
