Say what you want about Explosion Bay but the man knows how do great action / camera shots. Not a bad film. Soundtrack was good.

It's fine - but it doesn't feel special or necessary. Most of my favourite characters only have minor roles which didn't help.

That's gone to D+ quickly. I'm a bit sad about how poorly it did at the box office, but I'm not sure it was the best they could have done.

Entertaining drama about life and love. George Clooney and Anna Kendrick. Decent enough. [5]*

It's not quite the Jaws debacle jawa, but I absolutely adore Up In The Air.

Recently watched a couple of films I’ve been meaning to watch for a while, but never got round to.

Knives Out - 9/10

I really enjoyed this, I’ve never read the book so all through the film I was constantly trying to piece things together (I did get a couple of bits right), the cast was great. One that I’ll definitely watch again at some point.

The Parapod: A Very British Ghost Hunt - 5.5-6/10

It was a solid film, it was always unlikely to be as good as the podcast but I didn’t think it was anywhere near as good as the Ghost series of podcasts they’ve done sadly. I was hoping they’d go a little more in depth with the respective Ghost story for each of the locations, but instead they just gave a brief idea and then showed Barry being scared, jumping. That’s not to say there wasn’t any enjoyment to be had, the section covering the supposedly haunted house in Pontefract was great and there was a few more laughs to be had. Maybe I was just expecting a little too much.

Schumacher - 8/10

Great documentary, i remember watching many of the moments featured live on TV (such as the silverstone crash, his battles with Hill & Hakkinen, and of course, Imola 94).

Rim of the World (Netflix) - 5/10

Low budget yet fun and light hearted stuff as a bunch of kids go to summer camp only for aliens to invade.

Turned out it was directed by McG.

Finally got round to watching Death on the Nile last night. Kinda wish I hadn't bothered :slol:

It's got a better resolution than Murder on the Orient Express (although it's not exactly a tricky whodunnit), but almost everything else is worse. Why on earth did we need a fifteen minute intro explaining why Poirot has his ridiculous moustache? :lol:

Why does it take over half the total runtime of the film before anyone actually dies? It's only two hours long but it really drags. It's hard to really care much about a Poirot romance subplot too, considering he's (as described by Agatha Christie!) a "detestable, bombastic, tiresome, ego-centric little creep". Stop wasting time making eyes at Okonedo and solve the murders!

I love how Emma Mackey's so excited about becoming "Mrs Doyle" at the start, too :lol:

Every time they mention the name I just picture Pauline McLynn :lol:

The story's alright, but Branagh's Poirot (and most of what he's added) just doesn't really work. Apparently he's making a third film, so it'll be interesting to see what they adapt next... :dread:

Shang Chi - 8/10
Great debut for the character in the MCU. Great martial art scenes, some nice cameos, and a decent story. Was nice to have a villain that you could empathise with a bit.
It's only really let down by the last 20-30 minutes where they dispense with the more grounded martial arts fighting and descend in to a CGI-fest. Overall though I love it. Easily one of the better post-Endgame MCU films.

Eternals - 5/10
It's not bad per say, it's just so strawberry floating bland. Dull characters that I'm indifferent to at best (Cersei), or actively disliking at worst (Sprite).
Best parts are when the celestial starts to emerge which looks cool as strawberry float and when the Irish guy hits Sprite on the head with a rock.
Easily my least favourite movie in the MCU so far.

Secrets of Dumbledore - 4/10

Confused, bloated, lacking direction, too many characters with little or nothing to do, a Grindelwald who lacks the on screen charisma/calculating menace Depp had, and the whole thing was so dull that I actually fell asleep and had to restart from half way through!

What were they thinking?

If Mads Mikkelsen lacks charisma on-screen, it's absolutely a sign of terrible writing. I watched it last month and thought it was a genuinely awful movie, hoping they scrap the series to be quite honest. It hardly made any money, by all accounts.

Exactly, he's a great actor and it felt like he had nothing to work with.

This also perfectly describes the first two. Was really hoping they might figure out what they actually wanted to do with the series at some point, but that doesn't sound promising :dread:

I haven't seen it yet and now I'm wondering if I will again be the only person who really enjoys it, as I did with the second film :shifty:

People Just Do Nothing: Big In Japan - not a patch on the tv show it’s based on, 3/5.
