Venom: Let There Be Carnage

I have no idea how to score this. It's utterly gooseberry fool, but I really enjoyed it.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness

Yeah, it was enjoyable enough but I'm really not feeling this multiverse element of the MCU. It just diminishes everything for me. I take it that it's going to be a permanent feature going forwards?

I would fully expect Multiverse shenanigans to be part of the MCU for at least the next 4-5 years. They seem to be teasing/building to Secret Wars.

Also looks very much like Ms Marvel is building up to some alt-universe shenanigans.

We've also got a second season of Loki and it's obviously going to be a big part of Ant-Man 3

I enjoy the alt-universe stuff but it must be very off-putting to the average punter who doesn't give two strawberry floats about having six different Dr. Stranges in a film.

Incredible Hulk - 8/10. Probably not a popular opinion but I love this, it's one of my favourite MCU films.

Please do not post this in the "No Context" thread

Dr Strange : Multiverse of Madness. 7.5/10
Slightly weak script that really needed a little tweaking.
America
had zero character development and she's a pivotal character. There's also very little multiverse action and that's what I was expecting. The trailer made it out like he was dealing with the consequences of No Way Home.

On the plus side Sam Raimi Sam Raimid the gooseberry fool out of it. His camera work, gore, nods and cheesy dialogue felt fresh in the MCU. Usually brutal for an MCU film.
90s X-Men cartoon theme :datass:

It's the most entertaining film I watched last year.

Dune (original) - 6/10

It's like they ran out of money halfway through it. Some really dated special effects. I liked the way the badguys were ginger for some reason. And Sting in his space underpants.

12 years a Slave - 8/10

This was moving, beautifully shot. And relentlessly brutal. The main guy was great as was Michael Fassbender.

Elvis

It's such a mixed bag of a film. It's overlong and overdirected. Tom Hanks is diabolically miscast in a cartoon villain role. Some parts Elvis' life are glossed over or ignored entirely. But...

The central performance is incredible. Like, seriously awesome. His Elvis could easily have been a hammy caricature, but it's note perfect. The performance scenes are genuinely some of the best I've ever seen put to film. The final one in particular is just beautifully played.

It's a 6/10 movie, but one which I would strongly advise everyone to see.

Ambulance - 7/10

Pretty decent actually (especially considering it's a Michael Bay film), reminds me of the big dumb fun action movies we used to get in the 90's.

Watched quite a few decent films this week.

Don't Look Up - 8

X - 7. Thought this was a bit different than your usual slasher film.

Spencer Confidential - 7

The Weekend Away - 8. Whodunit that did a good job of keeping you guessing until the end.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (Disney+)

I enjoyed this albeit I didn't really follow the storyline too well; I had a few days break between the first and second hour and I kinda lost track a bit. Great effects and I was surprised at how spooky and sinister it was at times. [6]*

* Note: I use the older rating scale so 6 doesn't mean it's sh!te; it means it's above average.
