The northman -3/10

Wtf was this supposed to be? It opens with a voice-over that sounds like papa lazarou, and has some bizzare accents going on. They may be authentic for all I know, but most of the time it sounded like Alan partridge trying to do an Irish accent. Nicole kidman in particular was awful in it, and did this manic laugh at one point that was unintentionally funny, like Dr evil or something.

Some of the action was pretty good, shame about the rest of it. Pretty boring overall.

Oh no ahah

I've got this to watch sometime, I was really impressed by The VVitch and The Lighthouse from the same director. Hopefully I don't end up minding Kidman's Dr Evil!!!

Don't worry Jazzem, most people (including myself) think it's brilliant.

I liked both The Witch and The Lighthouse but thought The Northman was piss-poor.

Monkey Man

Went to the cinema on Saturday to watch this. Only 3 people in the cinema but I thought this film was very good. The cinematography was excellent and I really liked the action scenes. It's worth watching. 8/10.

Back to Black.

I enjoyed this but wanted more, felt there wasn't enough on her destructive side and it lacked the finger but of detail on how she get hooked and then how it ravaged her. 6/10 but an enjoyable 6/10.

Napoleon - 6.5/10

I've seen some terrible reviews of this, so that might have helped my enjoyment as I wasn't expecting much.

It's a bit of a mess of a film. Trying to cram in everything that happened between the French Revolution and Napoleon's death into a movie is daft. If you want to do that, you need a TV series.

But it's an ok film. Napoleon is played as a weirdo and I suspect that's probably pretty accurate, no normal person wants to conquer the world.

The worst thing was when Miles Jupp popped up. I have no issue with his acting, but what the strawberry float? I found it impossible to take anything seriously after that.

Dune Part 2 - 8.75/10

Really enjoyed this, just not sure if I preferred it to the first film or not. I felt that there was perhaps a few more lulls in this one and at times it got a bit lost in its own story (if that makes sense). It's just as stunning though, both are beautiful films to look at and are the benchmark for sci-fi visual storytelling, Villeneuve is a master of his craft.

I really enjoyed Christopher Walken's performance as well, he's just great

Mulholland Drive - 9/10

I do get why some people dislike this film but there are few that match its intensity for me. It isn’t the fully coherent mystery thriller you might want but I do think the idea that it’s incomprehensible is pretty overblown. Naomi Watts’ performance ought to have received greater recognition than it did.

God knows what the original TV series would have looked like though.

Needed Jay and Silent Bob to lighten it up.

Dune (1984) - 9/10

Well that was excellent. Really enjoyable and not too difficult to follow as I've seen the two new films. Music was great and the world building is very well done. The fan edit is apparently one of the best versions to see and it's free on YouTube. A long film but well worth a watch.

Civil War 7/10 However little politics you think is in this film, it's less. However it's competently made and compelling with some decent (sparse) action scenes.

The Expendables 4.

Meh. It was average at best and I could see they ran out of ideas what to do with it.

There was some decent action, but it was like you've seen them all before.

Having 4 of them was just superfluous

Late Night With The Devil - 8/10

Loved this. David Dastmalchian is fantastic and there are some wonderfully creepy moments.
