Annihilation.

Some interesting ideas, although it feels like you've seen them all before in this fairly low budget sci-fi horror. Watchable, but I felt it a little boring and a bit of a disappointment after checking the scores on IMDB.

X-Men Days of Future Past - 8/10

Seen this before, but I bought it because I wanted a copy. Love it. It has some silly bits in it, but it's a hugely enjoyable premise, and some has cool set pieces. Probably my favourite one, the retconning is something that I'm not too annoyed about.

I love the start of that film. I'm not a big fan of the X-Men films but that was most likely my favourite.

Solo 9/10

I thought it was really good. Is this going to be trilogy of films? I can see this crossing over into Boba Fett and Kenobi movies - would that be the trilogy?

I will happily watch that guy's version of Han in more films. What a likeable bastard he is.

Spoilers: I loved how the film somehow had such a strong sense of comraderie running the way through it, despite just about everyone crossing and double-crossing someone at least once . On that note, there certainly was one too many incidents of double-crossing. Why on earth did the girl smash Han's blaster out of his hands when he was about to shoot the bloke, only for her to betray the bloke literally seconds later? I suppose she was still making her mind up right until the last moment...

I also really enjoyed the humour. It wasn't anything special but it came across as genuine, unlike the god awful contrivances we had to sit through during TLJ.

I figured it was because she had to kill him to be the next crimson dawn leader and prove herself to Maul. Or something. Im guessing the tatooine reference leads into the Boba Fett movie. And Maul and tatooine will lead into the Kenobi movie. Both with Qi'ra, Chewbacca and Han playing some role. ?

Some good CGI (bad guy was especially great), and surprisingly funny. It was far too long and hard to get invested in the characters as they never felt anything other than invincible.

Deadpool 2.

Honestly, I went in with pretty low expectations. I thought that the original was a blind-sider that probably went largely without too much studio interference, but I thought that the sequel would be streamlined and polished with none of the soul.

And it wasn't perfect, and I don't know which I prefer, but I loved it. The credits sequence had me in actual tears. The thing that got me as well was that, once again, I saw it with a Chinese audience who understood approximately 3% of the pop culture references and so me and my mates were wetting ourselves in an otherwise silent theatre.

A Quiet Place -8/10 - I really enjoyed this. It had a few flaws but I had no idea what it was going to be about and it was a good watch.

Kill Bill Vol 1 - 7/10 - Good bit of mindless gore.

The Martian - 8/10 This is actually a really decent film. Pleasantly surprised.

The Thing - 11/10

Perfect film in every way. When John Carpenter is on form few can come close to his level of film making. The score, casting, effets, opening shots, closing scenes, sense of impending soon, it's just one classic scene after another.

Amazing to think it wasn't recognized on release as a classic.

Cargo - 6/10

Decent Zombie film that lacks any real feeling of danger or tension and fails to make the most of its concept.


Solo: A Star Wars Story - 5/10

Not a bad movie, just painfully average and unmemorable.


Deadpool 2- 8/10

Wasn't sure early on, some of the humour at the start fell a bit flat for me but it definitely picked up as it went on and had some genuinely hilarious moments. Don't think it quite matched the first but it's a close run thing.

Guardians of the Galaxy 2 - 9/10

Solo - 8/10

This is actually good! Hooray! Much, much more enjoyable than the mess that TLJ was. Fortunately, it had none of the awful humour TLJ had (although I could do without “funny” droids for one or two films) and they really got the tone right. It’s a solid film, and the simplicity of the plot helps it deliver a tight 2 hour story. Performances are all very good too, think they’ve all been cast well, including Han which I was initially a little worried about. Feel this is a very good example of how they should be going about the standalone Star Wars films.

Just finished watching this myself and I feel the same. It was surprisingly lighthearted (more so compared to it's closest comparison, Gravity) and incredibly daunting. One thing I feel this film does particularly well is depict the drama, tension and responsibility (on both ends) that permeate any mission into space.

The overwhelming sense of triumph is a satisfying payoff for those 500 odd SOLS spent in isolation. 8/10.

Interesting concept...first 20mins of the film is silent. Seems like a typical alien invades earth kinda film though.

The only thing that winds me up about it is the way in which he does the Iron Man glove thing at the end. He should, really, have shot out into space.
