Last film you watched and your rating

Mortal Engines - Despite being a supremely dumb film it wasn't lacking in entertainment. The special effects are pretty good and I quite liked the two leads. Sure the plot and tone is a bit all over the place and some of the twists/developments are idiotic, but it was still fun. 6/10

A shame how poorly put together this was. I remember (although it must be pushing 20 years ago now :shock:

) really enjoying the books.

The Mummy. The new one with Tom Cruise on Netflix. 1/10 switched off about half way through.

Teen Titans Go! To the movies 5/10- Besides the voice cast surprised it wasn't a straight to streaming/DVD number. Didn't engage me well, and the thought the story was a bit naff. Had the odd joke which landed though.

Booksmart.

9/10.

Thought this was terrific, really. Very funny, well made film. Excellent.

Aladdin - 7/10; Will Smith is decent as the Genie, not Robin Williams good but not the car crash you'd think. Some great action and big song numbers.

John Wick 3 - 8/10; knife through the eye, ouch! :dread:

Some of the best fight sequences since The Raid films or other John Wick films.

Rocketman - 9/10; amazing turn by Taron Edgerton and great use of Elton's music throughout.

Society.

What the actual strawberry float. That was my reaction during the shunting. What. THE. actual. F-U-C-K!

The acting is laughable bad. With the horrors going on, the best mate of the hero just looks on with mild interest. I would be freaking out really badly. :lol:

The satire of this still works in today's modern world, sadly.

One word: Don't eat anything with cheese, especially pizza, while watching it. Seriously.

I went to see this last night and thought the same

Everyone was great in it and it had The Best Song in its soundtrack. Really enjoyed it!

On paper this sounds like utter crap but I enjoyed it. Captain America on a train with Billy Elliot, what’s not to like?

I'm asking which elements stood out particularly. The acting is largely, but not universally, great, the direction has one or two nice moments (normally wide angle or long shots) and the story is pedestrian. It does well for (what I assume) was a modest independent budget.

Meh, horses for courses I guess. I thought the acting and script were great, and it was such a tightly paced pressure cooker of a setup that I think it's the best Tarantino.

What pressure? They can leave anytime? They come and go willy nilly. They have the diamonds. There's no "pressure" or danger. There's no tension in their situation.

Same with the cop torture. You know he can't escape. So there's no tension. Bad stuff is going to happen to him and you're going to watch....that's not tense it's gratuitous. The "surprise" of Orange waking up is unpredictable, but not in an engaging or particularly satisfying way.

But the cop's alive again! Game of cat and mouse now to see if he can be kept alive...nope randomly shot. There goes that tension.

Still are they going to work out its Orange? Oh Cabbot just knows. With certainty. (Hey weren't the cops waiting for him to show? They too must have been sent the script.)

Time for a Mexican stand off between the guy who "just knows" Orange is bad, and Orange's wannabe boyfriend. Oh and Eddie. 2v1 though that doesn't look great. Oh they...all shot each other...somehow...(I went back and watched this in slow motion...because it's dumb. 2v1 and they don't kill him, but he kills them...)

It's been a while since I saw it, so I can't pick it apart plot point by plot point, but it very much didn't play like that for me.

I'm watching it (and Pulp Fiction) because a guy ( :shifty:

) gave them me on DVD after I said I couldn't recalling if I'd ever seen them all (or just seen lots icon scenes/outakes/homages, or absorded knowledge of them through cultural osmosis)

I thought the most interesting bit was the direction (at some bits). I also thought the use of non-linear storytelling didn't add anything.

It's fine. It's not "bad" by any stretch of the imagination. It just...is.
