Tomous wrote:Watched War Dogs last night. Probably a 5 or 6. Didn't hate it, had some funny moments but then the tone shift for the final third where it got a lot more serious was jarring. They painted the guys as really cool dudes but at the same time they were arms dealers and were putting peoples lives at risk? Didn't quite sit right that we were meant to go WOW these guys are so cool!

Jonah Hill was pretty good though (absolutely huge, must have put on weight for the part?). Ana De Armas was way too beautiful to play the part of the neglected wife though, it was distracting. Also, she was an invented character for the story, I didn't really see the point when the whole subplot with her was so underdeveloped. Watchable but hard to properly recommend I guess.

Couple of points too low for me, Clive. Your review clearly does not come with a Triangle of Death guarantee .

Shang Chi - 8/10

Very good introduction for a new character to the MCU, some excellent action sequences, a good balance of humour, and good performances all round!

A couple of wonky CGI scenes was the main let down

I remember thinking this when I watched it a couple of years ago. She's obscenely attractive.

Cruella - 5/10

It's weird that a film that can't stay still for two minutes can be so incredibly dull. Decent performance from Emma Thompson though.

Affleck prefers Jennifer Lopez.

Tomb Raider 2018

Turned it off after 10 minutes. That intro completely turned me off.

Its ok but the whole vibe of it comes across as a bad rip off of Raiders Of The Lost Ark

Isn't that basically what Tomb Raider is?

I just wish it had started with the ship wreck so we could have gotten right into it. All that fake Britishness and traumatic backstory completely killed my mood because it was done so poorly. The bicycle chase was just weird and I don't want to witness it ever again.

The bicycle chase was pointless added nothing to the story and character building

Voyagers - 6/10

It's basically Lord of the Flies but in space, that said, it's definitely worth a look as while it wasn't anything particularly amazing, i did enjoy it.

That said, i got a french blu ray copy as it's not out here yet as far as i'm aware.

The Colour of Money - 9/10

An absolutely brilliant Scorsese film about pool hustlers, I'm surprised it's not better regarded especially as Paul Newman is so, so good in it. I just saw he won the Oscar for his performance and I'm not surprised. Some great lines in it too. Money won is twice as sweet as money earned

The Founder - 8/10

A solid 8 for me. I knew very little about the story behind McDonald's so I wasn't entirely sure how good this was going to be but its definitely an engrossing film. I very much enjoyed Michael Keaton as Ray Croc, not sure I've ever seen him give a bad performance but he pitches Croc, the good and bad, perfectly. His scenes with the brothers are the standout, especially the one where they explain what they did to him at the restaurant-there's a great energy to it. There were flaws, some of the subplots were under baked and the pacing went a bit off in the final third for me. But overall, a really fascinating exploration of a shitty bloke behind the world's biggest fast food chain.

Also, when Nick Offerman described himself as a card carrying republican I was instantly transported to a Parks and Rec episode :slol:
