Toy Story 4

After the perfect ending to TS3 I was genuinely worried they were going to strawberry float things up, but this was actually brilliant.
I loved how it basically an extension of TS3 and without getting into spoilers it gave a nice conclusion to certain characters.

Entertaining, emotional and funny.

Too high or too low?

The Shining to me is a 9/10 (great but far from perfect). Doctor Sleep is worse than it and 7.5 is fair.

7.5 is about right IMO - very good, but not quite top tier. I think Herbi was upset that it didn’t receive Oscar nominations so I’d assume he wants you to go higher.

Had Satoshi Kon not passed away, I am certain he would eventually be regarded as one of if not the greatest animated filmmakers to come out of Japan. The consistency of quality yet continued growth from Perfect Blue up to Paprika is utterly mesmerising, in the span of 10 years putting out 4 genuine classic examples of the medium.

I’ve been trying to get hold of a blu-ray copy of Perfect Blue for quite some time - it’s very dear unfortunately.

They’ve never come out and said it out loud, but I’m reasonably sure Perfect Dark is named in homage to Perfect Blue,

The Irishman - 9/10

Really really good, but also really really long. I watched it in bursts over a 3 week period :lol:

Didn't like seeing what life has in store for Robert De Niro and Joe Pesci as they get older, that made me sad

Pesci was fantastic in it as well, as was Pacino :wub:

Nobody watched Doctor Sleep unfortunately. It bombed at the box office.

$45million budget, $72million box office.

After taking into account marketing, I imagine they broke even, but yeah that’s a flop.

Which is a shame, it’s a good movie.

More likely made a loss, as the general rule of thumb is to double the budget to include marketing, which is crazy really because how it can cost $45m to market a film - how big are those posters?!

Terminator: Dark Fate - 8/10

Was expecting a disaster, but actually it was pretty decent.

it ignores basically the first two movies though

Bird of Prey - 4/10

Watchable but the tone is all over the place especially black mask - slice off someones face, do a funny dance, sexually threaten someone, use a silly voice.

As for Harley, torture, cripple and kill people, yeah but she did it on a wacky way.

It's basically suicide squad but better made and with no danger. Just a very odd film. Also the lengths it goes to, to not show Jared Leto is almost Austin powers level of silly.

On the plus side MEW is great as always but only has a handful of lines.

The Invisible Man

This was one of those enjoyable yet flawed films where as long as you ignore the stupid stuff that doesn't make sense you'll enjoy it a lot. That I did.

6.5/10 or whatever.

I just watched Dark Waters and it was bloody fantastic.
The real life story of how Dupont poisoned an entire town for decades and didn't give any strawberry floats at all.

If you've used Teflon then you should see this film as you'll be surprised how strawberry floating toxic it is to make.
Seriously fantastic and a worthy 10/10 from me.
The film has zero action and is mostly about a single lawyer and the farming family who hire him to sue Dupont who basically have infinite money.

1917 - 9/10 - beautifully filmed and acted. Some very iffy transitions which took me out of it. But the rest of it was great. Apart from the needles cgi on things that don't need to be cgi. Like a rat.

Onward - 5/10 - good ending, but the rest was very boring.

I saw this last week and realised it was probably a good time to get rid of all my non-stick frying pans where the teflon is coming off.

Just watched Arrietty and it was very good.

Watched the Pokemon remake and it had some cool shots, but the change in voices and music really grated on me.

I mean, come on, no ‘Brother my Brother’ during the clone battle? Barbaric.

Finished Nausicaa last night, pretty dark for a kids film. Really, really good though. Disney really chucked some money at the English dubs given the qualities of the various casts.
