Parasite - 10/10

So good. Cast and music are fantastic. Beautifully filmed and it just holds the viewer's attention from scene to scene. I went into it not knowing anything about it and I'm happy I did. I can't imagine the amount of spoilers there would have been in trailer 1 and 2 of a western version of this.

Anyway it's fantastic and thrilling. For once the Oscars got it right.

Wish my image sig would work

I absolutely love this movie, and you’re right, it was far better than I expected it to be.

The bit where they sing Firework by Katy Perry had me in hysterics.

Aye, fantastic moment.

For me, it was James Franco's performance throughout which stole the show.

Parasite - 9

Really cool film with the central family just being incredibly compelling and the way everything unravelled was great to watch. Loved the surreal bend to it as well, along with its message and some real poignant moments. Not sure if I prefer it to Jojo or Dr Sleep but still a worthy Oscar winner.

I’m not sure why there’s so much sensitivity around going into it knowing as little as possible, it twists and turns but it didn’t have any breakneck turns that you really need to go in blind to.

Joker 9.5/10
A difficult watch but a fascinating character study of the clown prince of crime, Phoenix nailed it, the soundtrack was great.

Captain America: The First Avenger 8/10
Daft, fun and incredibly enjoyable debut for Cap.

Captain America: Winter Soilder 9/10
One of my favourite Marvel films, love how it feels like a spy film.

I like that they use the song of a deplorable piece of gooseberry fool for the big reveal. It's pleasantly uncomfortable. The original soundtrack is incredible though and the Oscar win was well deserved.

Anyway, Kiki's Delivery Service...

I really liked it. I wasn't expecting it to be a story about dealing with depression. It was a nice surprise and it was handled very thoughtfully. I'd say it's immediately one of my favourite Ghibli films.

Ocean Waves. It was a very short film like seventy minutes long but
I enjoyed it.

It'll be "Only Yesterday" left to watch it and I might watch it sometime this week.

Out of seven Studio Ghibli films available on Netflix and I'd say Porco Rosso is my fave so far. Can't wait when they've added other seven films on 1st of March. :toot:

Terminator: Dark Fate – 7/10

It’s utter crap compared to T1 and T2, but it’s much better than the other sequels.

Linda Hamilton can still kick ass.

I didn’t like Arnie’s character at all in this. So he kills John Connor and then suddenly decides to go and live with a woman? I know Terminators can learn and change behaviour, but strawberry float off with that gooseberry fool. Just make Arnie a baddie again, he doesn’t always have to be a good guy.

What was the point of “Skynet doesn’t exist but lol this other computer system does and it just happened to make terminators, invent time travel and generally do everything exactly the same”. What bollocks. Would have been far simpler to just stick to the “you delayed judgement day, you didn’t stop it” plot of the other movies.

Birds of Prey - 6.5/10 - I wasn't expecting great things but I was pleasantly surprised. A pretty entertaining, if not stellar, film

Weathering with You - 6/10 - I wanted to give this a higher mark. It looked amazing and I was hyped to see this after watching 'Your Name' a couple of years ago. Something didn't quite gel though. I think the writer/director always had a tough act to follow but he seemed to fall into familiar tropes and at least one particular set piece.

Please do not post this in the "No Context" thread

Lost in Translation - 9/10

First time seeing this and I really enjoyed it. It was a very chilled film, not much happened and yet so much happened. Halfway through watching I just had to go and get myself a glass of whiskey, dat subliminal influencing :datass:

Only Yesterday.

It was not too bad and a bit slow pace film. Now I have to wait for 1st of March when they have added seven more films. :toot:

I assume you've already seen Spirited Away and Princess Mononoke (if not, make those your first picks!) but The Tale Of Princess Kaguya is a genuinely lovely film and a really underrated Ghibli in my book.

I watched Totoro with the kids yesterday. I think it was a bit young for my lad, but they both sat through it without moaning, so success I guess!

No, I haven't seen either of them yet and I watched Ponyo a couple of years ago. It was only a film I've seen from Studios Ghibli. :fp: I was pleased when Netflix announced Ghibli films so I could watch them all. :)

I’ve seen Sonic The Hedgehog Movie twice this week and can only say it’s excellent. As good a video game adaptation as detective pikachu, which makes it the joint best video game adaptation of all time.

Sonic the Hedgehog - 9/10

So much better than expected, a lot of heart and the best post credit scene since The Avengers. Great little film. Amazing end credits too.
