The Greatest Showman

Was forced into watching this by the missus, and thankfully wasn't quite the cinematic abortion I was expecting. That's mainly thanks to Hugh Jackman, who is wonderfully warm and charasmatic. He practically carries the entire film, which is a good job because everything around him is completely one-dimensional. Supporting cast given nothing to do, story is rote and unimaginative and it's directed with a surprising lack of energy. It plays out like My First Musical for tweens.

Calvary - 8/10

Cracking film. I seen it a few years ago, it's now on UK Netflix. Funny and deep. I love how it explores a little community of people. Gleeson acts his balls off as usual.

Mission Impossible: Fallout - 7.5/10

It was pretty good action film.

Spider-Man Into the Spider-Verse

That was absolutely strawberry floating incredible. At this point I'd have to say it's the best comic book movie I've ever seen. It's takes a top tier story, paces it brilliantly with some top notch performances, has a grade A soundtrack and is all wrapped up in the most amazing art style you'll ever see. It's wonderful and I need to see it again.

It also has the single greatest Stan Lee cameo and it brought tears to my eyes.

They decide that if they need to look at stuff pressing their faces a few inches away from it is a really great idea and then get amazed when they get attacked.

They keep trusting an android who's obviously got super advanced droid rot and make Kryten's spare head 3 look like a good bloke to have in a crisis and just to top the turd sandwich of completely they manage to make it as dull as strawberry float.

The entire crew deserved to be Darwin Award winners and I now don't give a strawberry float if the Aliens win as all the humans in the future are strawberry floating idiots.

Ralph Breaks the Internet 5/10- The funniest bit with the princesses is in the trailer. The story is pretty similar to the 1st but done worse. There's a couple of laughs in it, but not much else.

Mortal Engines - 8/10

Very solid film, it's a big old movie and I like the fact that this is a full film and though it's part of bigger series it still has a complete feel to it.

Great effects and a character driven story. I'm interested to see where they go next.

Also as the main city is London and the big bad of the film. It had a few little brexit nods (we should never have gone into Europe) was said at one point. Also the ending was a good little nod to Brexit.

Very well made a good start to a bigger story.

Mission Impossible: Fallout - 6/10

Some great action, but it really didn't need to be 150 minutes long.

It was no Ghost Protocol that's for sure.

Isn't the overall message of the Mortal Engines a pro-immigration (anti-Brexit) one? If you want to read political messages from a fantasy film based on a book, that is.

Was rather concerned when I heard it was directed by the guy who handled the barrel chase from the Hobbit films :dread:

Glad to hear it isn't a complete disaster, though.

Just looks like another disposable young-adults-rising-up-against-the-grown-up-establishment sort of film to me, ala Divergent, Hunger Games, Mazerunner etc etc.

It's close to the Maze Runner but not as good.

It's very much a Netflix film, worth seeing but worth paying for the cinema experience.

Also the big city stuff is all in the trailer. There is actually very little city on city action.

"Not as good as the Maze Runner" doesn't fill me with confidence

First maze runner was good, second was great third was terrible.

Once Upon a Deadpool 6/10

Went to see this last night. It's Deadpool 2 re cut to remove the blood, lots of the swearing and any nudity or sex references. It has Fred Savage added to the start and close, with a few little cut backs. Fred's bits are funny, but the action has the final punches cut out so has no flow to it. Same with the jokes, Deadpool needs to be free to cut loose but is held back.

It's an odd one. Like all extended cuts or re cuts, it's worth seeing out of curiosity.

Aquaman - 8/10

What the strawberry float ! This should have been crap. I was promised a crap DC film but instead they actually did it.

I've seen people compare it to Black Panther but it's more of it's own thing.

So here goes.... Firstly the effects are stunning, really well filmed action and all used to further the plot.

Amazing creature design too.

Music is very good and some very random music choices.

Cast are all great with the best being some of the support, Dolf, Dafoe and Kidman.

The action scenes are really well done, comic book but grounded. Black Manta is awesome and has a very good origin story too.

The best thing about the film is it's so proud of what it is. If you look at GI Joe (first film) or Transformers, they act like they are ashamed of the source material. X-Men movies do this too changing the suit colours as they can't embrace it.

This is the opposite.

The tone is similar to The Mummy, fun, silly, serious, scary and very well filmed.

It's worth seeing on the big screen too.

The third act of the film is excellent, unlike Wonder woman or black panther which loses something in cgi chaos. This has a big cgi sea battle, but it's well done. Very well done.

After Spider-Man - into the spider-verse, this is the biggest surprise of the year.

DC actually did something right. I'm going to see it again soon and I'm looking forward to it. Big, bold, fun, exciting, original, world building and different.

Only real negative is a few killer shots are in the trailer, but a lot of good stuff is left out. And I would have liked more of a link to DC universe but I think keeping it out was intentional.
