Boiling Point - 7

Finally got round to watching this and really enjoyed it. A lot of the characters were spot on and the acting/film work across the board was really good. Would have been higher if it wasn't so anxiety inducing :toot:

Can't imagine many people watching this then deciding working in a kitchen looks like the job for them

Boiling Point is great and the fact that it was filmed in one take without any cuts is incredible

If you like the one take approach, then I whole heartedly recommend watching Victoria (2015)

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt4226388/

Same idea, but think it's a much more ambitious and better film. (keep an eye out for a camerman trying hide when in the cafe)

Eurovision: The Story of Fire Saga - 7/10

Great fun, Will Ferrell was on good form and there were lots of fun silly moments.

The Quiet Place 2 - 7/10

It was a good film, but the first one was better.

Prey 10/10

Absolutely brilliant, saw the ending coming but it doesn't take it away for me.

Nope: 7/10

Felt like it could have had a bit more to say, maybe it did but I just didn't pick up on it.

Still was a very novel experience and very creepy.

Literally all the trailers before the film were focused around black stories which I thought was cool to see. Black Panther trailer nearly made me cry

Nope - 7.5/10
There's a 40 mins or so extended sequence in the middle that is incredibly tense and showed Peele at his absolute best. We're talking Jurassic Park, Jaws levels of tension and spectacle. And yet... the third act didn't really work for me. It showed a bit too much and didn't build on the threat that had been established. Felt a bit inert.
Still a great watch, but maybe my least favourite of Peele's three movies so far.

Bullet Train - 6/10
Loved the book but feel like Leitch was the wrong choice of director. He turned what is a gritty thriller into a knockabout, overstuffed CGI action movie. From the beginning, a lot of jokes fell flat and it was too flashback-heavy. It finds a decent rhythm in the middle, once we know all the key players, their motivations and their location on the train. That's also the most accurate to the book, and there are some clever twists and reveals. Such as shame then, that the ending (which is completely rewritten) is so repetitive and over the top. Decent but could've been a lot better in the right hands.

Midnight Special - 6/10
Hmm. This was okay. Michael Shannon always come across as a really strange guy, and it's no different here. The main kid's annoying, but kids always are, so no surprise there. Intriguing storyline, which predictably fell flat in how it it ended. Supporing characters were pretty good. Fairly enjoyable I guess.

Awakenings - 7/10
I'd never never heard of this, but it was fairly good, and nice to see Robin Williams in one of his non-comedic roles. I liked the plot and understand it was based on true events etc, but it all felt a bit...saccharine. I know these 'based on true events' films are always like that, and I'm not sure how much this deviates from what actually happened, but it feels like you always have to take them with a fistful of salt. Still, it was entertaining enough.

The Killing of a Sacred Deer - 4/10
Very weird film. Colin Farrell was quite good in it, but the main kid was incredibly annoying, and I spent most of the film just wanting to punch him. The other kids were pretty annoying too, and it was all just a bit weird and abstract. No idea how it's got such good reviews online. A waste of a couple of hours, really.

I think you should avoid films with kids in them altogether.

I doubt any of those kids were as whiny and annoying as the ones in the Tom Cruise version of War of the Worlds.

Actually, speaking of which, it's about time someone made a new version which is actually faithful to the original text for a change.

Prey

It's good innit? I think there's a little bit too much on show early doors, and some of the shots are a bit clunky (look, these animals are PREYing on each other!). But yeah, last half is incredibly entertaining, and the end is satisfying as hell. Great stuff.

8/10

Nobody - 8/10

This one kinda passed me by when it first came out. It turned out to be a pleasant surprise with some really great action scenes.

Jaws 2. Somehow I'd never seen it before and it was surprisingly decent. I'd expected quite a drop in quality after the first entry but I enjoyed it. A good fillm a bit above average so, for me, it's a [6].

Point Break 8/10

Great film, very well paced. Ive not seen it mentioned before but the fast and the furious could well be based on Point Break, its almost a shot for shot remake. I live my life one gnarly tube at a time.

The Fast & The Furious is basically a remake of Point Break but with cars
