Tomb Raider 2018 6.5/10
Surprisingly not terrible and a rather enjoyable film.

Hereditary - 5/10; new on Amazon Prime so thought I'd give it a watch and see what all the fuss was about. Didn't hate it or love it but didn't think it lived up to the hype.

It's such a shame Hereditary doesn't get much love on here.

I think it's an absolute masterpiece and one of the best horror films I've seen this decade. It deserves more than 5/10 just for Toni Collette's performance.

I'm with you there. I saw it at the cinema and thought it was excellent. Had the same feeling afterwards as when I watched Mother...which was "I loved that but I don't know why. What I do know is that most of my pals are going to absolutely hate it."

Just saw the Lego Movie 2  I think the first film gets a bit tired with repeat viewings, so it'll be interesting to see how well this one holds up. First time though, loved it. The soundtrack is something else.

If Beale Street Could Talk.

*****

Haven't felt that confident immediately calling something a five star film in a while. Still need more time to process my thoughts on it, but wow, what an experience.

Comparitively...

Green Book

**

Enjoyable odd couple film with a fluff piece window dressing of racism in America. Actually not at all a surprise to see it's made by one of the Farrelly Brothers, as it's about as subtle as any other of their films, but not as funny.

Ballad of Buster Scruggs 7/10 - 6 Western Stories (none of which are related) of varying quality. Almost like a poor man's Western Black Mirror. It's probably worth a watch considering you don't have to watch it all in one go.

Favourite story the Gal Who Got Rattled.

Alita Battle Angel - 7/10 - Enjoyed it more than I thought, had a lot of standard story tropes but the CG felt as if it was a step up. Some of the battles were fantastic on the big screen. I thought Nova was James Cameron at first :fp: until he took his glasses off to see it was Edward Norton

Can You Ever Forgive Me? - 8/10 - Melissa McCarthy and Richard E Grant are fantastic in this, love their chemistry and banter. Not a massive McCarthy fan but proves she has some decent acting chops.

Escape Room - 6/10 - enjoyable Saw-esque film; not terrible or fantastic somewhere in between.

Happy Death Day 2 U - 6/10

Mary Queen of Scots - 7/10.

I watched it the other day, and I whole heartedly agree. Had quite a few of my friends tell me it was quite good :?

It was the best superhero film of 2018.

I'm not joking.

I didn’t hate it, but it was nowhere near as good as Ant-Man and the Wasp - let alone Black Panther and Infinity War.

I've seen the trailer multiple times while browsing Netflix and I'm still none the wiser about what the films premise is.

People kill themselves after seeing an alien.

So Sarah Bollocks has to be blind. And there’s birds in a box. Cos aliens hate birds or something.

Oh I dunno. Watch it.

Annihilation 6/10- Started out really engaging but then the ending is really crap, thought it was going to be an 8 then over the 2nd act dropped to a 7, and then the ending to a 6.

That description is far better than the trailer.

Lego movie 2 - similar to the first movie / 10.

Positives are that it felt a lot like a continuation of the first film. The humour was the same and it was a decent watch.

Negatives are that it didn't improve on the first and due to being a sequel lacked that new feel.
