Us

There was a lot to like about this, but, unfortunately, after it passed a certain point, the longer it went on, the less interested I became. Didn't help that there were a load of dickheads in my showing. Still, it felt like it was one of those films that'll require at least one re-watch to get the best out of it.

Skyscraper - Dwayne/10

Towering Inferno meets Die Hard. Watchable enough, would be looking at a 5 or a 6 if The Rock hadn't been in it.

Covered perfectly by our very own jiggles over on Twitter (spoilered for spoilers).

The Thing - 9/10

This movie portrays paranoia pretty well. There's some truly excellent scenes in it.

I loved this. It's a showcase in flipping between the normal and unsettling. strawberry float that family.

Watched this myself for the first time today and would review similarly. Not seen anything like it and enjoyed the interesting tonal shifts. Probably an 8/10 for me too.

On Saturday I watched Moonlight for the first time. It's a beautiful film and I loved the way the story was told over different stages in the protagonists life with different actors. A 9/10 for me.

Saw Dumbo last night.

Never really was that into it as a kid, but I remembered the Pink Elephants on Parade being the most nightmarish sequence ever to little four year old me, and I couldn't wait to see what they did with it.

How the strawberry float Tim Burton of all people strawberry float that up so hard.

Burton hasn't made a good film for more a very long time

1999 was sleepy hollow, the last time he made a good life action film. IMDb says his next director gig is Beetle Juice 2.....

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.2 - 6/10

I quite liked the first one but this was just a bit meh. Nothing particularly bad about it, it just doesn't do anything very interesting with the characters or setting.

The soundtrack was decent though and I liked the little joke about the Zune being really popular also liked the credits sequence, with the words "I am Groot" appearing in odd places.

...You didn't find the man-planet interesting?

I mean, there are hundreds of things to criticise the movie for but not being interesting isn't one of them, I would've thought.

Anyhow:

Skyscraper - 6/10. As someone else said - it's basically just a movie about The Rock, that would be awful if it didn't have him front and centre, always.

Now You See Me 2 - 7/10. Diverting enough movie, I'd like to see a third.

The problem with Skyscraper my first viewing was i have seen this all done before and better i knew what was coming. The Rock is good in film's where he is a secondary character like in Fast and Furious, Jumanji etc but IMO he is not good to be a lead role. Skyscraper is a film you quickly forget about.

Us - 8.5/10

I loved this. Saw it last night and still thinking about it today. Will be great to see what Jordan Peele comes up with next; he has a really good eye, some awesome ideas and uses music brilliantly.

That final shot :D

Pet Sematary (original) 7/10

Some memorable bits and the flash backs are excellent and genuinely unsettling (very much reminded me of Pin the VHS classic).

Great effects and a good creepy feeling to it. Always love a Stephen King cameo too.

Shazam (The Real Captain Marvel) 9/10

Bloody lovely stuff. Great cast, brilliantly written, heart warming and such a good origin film. Loads of stuff kept out of the trailers (basically the final third of the movie)

Just a great film which really embraces it's source material. Also some bloody brilliant gaming references and a genius 80s movie reference.

The pre credit sequence is also fantastic.

Maybe.... The best new DC film. (Not best ever, Superman 2, dark knight, batman returns are all better)

I bought it on Bluray a few days ago, maybe I should have gone with Ant Man & the Wasp instead.

How bad can it be?

It's a 90s super hero film (including most action filmed at night to save money. It's gooseberry fool but.. it's venom so it's watchable.

Still better than Ant Man and the Wasp though.

It's really, really not better than Ant-Man and the Wasp.

I think what I'd call Venom is a glorious failure. It makes strawberry float all sense, the first hour is absolutely turgid and Tom Hardy's accent is genuinely bizarre. But that last forty minutes or so really ramps up the batshit crazy to almost incredible levels and you have to respect that.
