Resident Evil The Final Chapter - 1/10

Only saw this once at the cinema and as a fan of the series I hated it. Seeing it again, it's terrible, a truly terrible end to a at times great popcorn action horror film.

So poorly made, a rehash of the best bits of the series but without the budget. Pointless and terrible waste of a set up. The film before this set up a really strong opening act but this is just gooseberry fool.

Hopefully the reboot is just a remake of of resident evil 2 or resi 7.

Night of the Living Dead (1990 remake).

Zombies are good and it pretty much follows the original plot, but it's not a great film. Passable at best.

Attack the Block - 6/10

Watchable enough, good pacing and creature design but nothing really special about it.

What's weird about it is that it totally ignored the ending in previous film. Albert Wesker has everyone and Alice at the White House, looking down to a large horde of zombies or did I imagine that?

Yeah that's how the second last one ended. This one picks up with Alice running from a big flying monster thing and then later someone says "Wesker betrayed us, thought he was going to give you back your powers but he didn't"

An opening with the battle that was set up would have been epic.

Yeah that’s right. I enjoyed the first one a lot, didn’t mind the second one, then it went a lot worse after that.

It’s a oerfect film for hangover recovery back in the day, when I was a student.

Aquaman 7/10 I enjoyed it, I thought the final act was a bit weak.

i didn't really get the point of the final battle at the end, he wants their army but is going to destroy it to get it? I also didn't really get the brine people, they devolved but still had all this war crab technology?

I liked the bit up until they get attacked by the trench people. This doesn't seem to be a widespread opinion but I enjoyed Mr and Mrs Aquaman India Jones adventure.

I thought the penaltimate resident evil was set inside some sort of underground facility (can remember much else was it some sort of proving ground/game?)

Avengers infinity war 9/10 - I really don't enjoy the avenger films (my favourite standalone is the first captain america) but I thought this was really good. Shame I'd had the ending spoiled within about 30 seconds of the film coming out in the cinema with it being memed to death everywhere, so I knew it was coming, but it was still good. Looked strawberry floating amazing in 4k too, plus the atmos soundtrack was great. Proper feast for the eyes in parts.

Solo 8/10 - enjoyed it more on my second viewing, the sound again was great. I still found the visuals too dark though with people being in silhouette for large sections. Looked great too. Washed the shitty last Jedi taste out of my mouth too.

I enjoyed Solo but I can't get on with all the extended-universe set-up that Disney then went "actually y'know what lets can all these future films" and made it so none of it actually means anything or will ever get any kind of payoff. You could trim about twenty minutes out of the runtime and get a much tighter Solo-driven story without losing anything. Also it never actually seems like Han and Lando were buddies despite what they say in Empire.

Like, I thought it was okay, but I doubt I'll ever really watch it again unless I'm watching it as part of a marathon.

Aqua Man 7.5/10
A lot better than I expected! Very funny, love all the humour and seeing all the different locations/worlds.
Just think DC should stick to standalone films from now on.

Oh they didn't ignore that, they just smoothed it all over in the opening voice-over - "Wesker betrayed us again," or something like that.

American Made - 8/10 Tom Cruise's best film for a good while [apart from MI: Fallout], liked the humour and way it was shot.

Aquaman - 6/10 Just a bit bland really, Amber Heard was easy on the eye and Nicole Kidman doesn't seem to age. I found myself more engrossed in the CGI underwater hair physics than the story at points.

Avengers: Infinity War - 8/10 Just as good as I remember from seeing it in the cinema [watched it with the parents to get the caught up in the MCU]. Thor was badass and totally the MVP of the film.

Bandersnatch - 7/10 really enjoyed this. I didn't get many bad endings and think I may go back to enter the correct phone number in the future or if there is any cool easter eggs found at a later date. I just enjoy seeing Black Mirror lore in the background and little nods and winks to other episodes.

Bumblebee - 7/10; Fun action film, putting the humour and heart back into the Transformers franchise. I initially thought John Cena was a bit naff but by the end I'd grown to accept he was OK.

Old Man and the Gun - 9/10; loved it, I think I was charmed by the lead character. If it is to be Redford's last film, great swansong and great cast.

Looking forward now to Clint Eastwood's 'The Mule' in early January :toot:

Probably because they can't afford it.

Josh Malerman, an author. Book was released in 2014.

But how faithful the film is, I don't know. Will nab the book at some point.

Jurassic World 2: Fallen Kingdom

What a chuffin mess of a nonsense film. It's like a 12 year old wrote it - something exciting happens every 2 minutes, but it's bonkers and silly and in no way engaging

Fallen Kingdom is a film which is shocking bad on a second viewing. I enjoyed it first time, not as much as Jurassic World which is popcorn fun with a very strong battle at the end. Fallen Kingdom was half a disaster movie and half a horror movie, the sci fi stuff and that ending... It'll be very interesting to see how they write themselves out of that.

I thought it was shite the first time I saw it, I dread to think how bad it would be if I watched again.

It made Jurassic Park 3 look like a masterpiece.
