Fast & Furious 8 - 7/10

Utterly mindless with total disregard for the laws of physics but is a brilliantly entertaining silly action film.

Love how it is basically a better Bond film than any of the past 5 or so actual Bond films, even the villain is the best 'Bond villain who isn't a Bond villain' in years.

Godzilla King of the Monsters - 2019 - IMAX - second viewing

Picked up a few more things I missed the first time. The creatures are the stars and film is very well directed. However no jokes land and only one human's fate causes any emotional response.

Bloody great effects and monster action though, next year's Godzilla Versus Kong is going to have to be enormous to outshine the monster action here.

Or alternatively a complete mess of a film, with ridiculous dialogue, a plot that makes no sense, far too much going on, jumping about all over the place and a lot of shaky cam.

Personally I didn't hate it, but I can totally understand people thinking it was complete gooseberry fool. Basically its like a Bay Transformer film but for Godzilla.

Baby Driver - 8/10

I liked it a lot. I don't think it's his best, his American productions are missing that quirkyness that his British output has, but he is a very competent film maker. I didn't really know much about it going into it, the car stunts were fantastic.

It's on Netflix if people weren't aware.

John Wick 2 - 9/10

Jonathan kills a lot of people in stylish and entertaining ways amongst some of the most unflappable members of the general public ever captured on screen! There are people getting stabbed and shot in the streets and these citizens have literally zero strawberry floats to give!

Really enjoyable film, Reeves is excellent again as Wick, I think I actually preferred it to the first movie as if feels like this was happier to have a bit more fun with itself (ooh-err)

It's currently on Prime if anyone has that I would recommend a watch!

Us - 9/10

I loved this, was gripped from start to finish and it really lingered with me afterwards, I couldn't stop thinking about it and I'm keen to rewatch it soon.

I liked how it was more subtle with the social commentary than 'Get Out' and I felt this allowed it to have a bit more fun with the horror/thriller elements which were done really well and combined plenty of fresh ideas with familiar elements of similar films. The cast were all superb too.

Godzilla King of Monsters - 6/10

I just could not give a gooseberry fool about the human stuff in this movie. I get that you need a narrative and that you can't just have monster kicking the gooseberry fool out of each other.

But there wasn't enough monsters kicking the gooseberry fool out of each other. For the most part, I was extremely bored during the exposition bits.

Searching - 8/10

It was something different and I enjoyed it, but it showed how the social media is like nowadays.

Stan & Ollie - 7/10

Don’t get me wrong, it was a good film and it was a bit slow pace for my liking. I didn’t realise they both had some issues during their careers. :(

Saw Godzilla KotM last night.

The first hour was a clunky mess, and the whole thing takes itself so damn seriously that it's no fun having to sit through the absolute nonsense bonkers plot. But holy gooseberry fool the last hour is legit some of the biggest grinning-ear-to-ear feel-seven-years-old-again amazing stuff. Quite possibly some of the most epic cinematography I've ever seen perfectly fitting the scale of the combat. Some of the best shots are in the trailer though, which I recommend avoiding if you don't remember it, because when those shots occur in context in their full glory..... HO-LEEEE SHIIIIIIIT.

But yea, the human story is silly nonsense as always, Tywin Lannister plays Tywin Lannister again, the script is about as subtle and nuanced as a brick to the teeth, but once they get fighting holy strawberry float grab a beer and enjoy the show.

This means I'll be disappointed if he doesn't get shot again with a crossbow on the toilet.

The Hate U Give - Very good. Handles a sensitive subject well and has some powerful moments. Some good performances too, particularly from the lead. 8/10

I just came back from seeing it myself and, god damn was it epic. 100% agree on the cinematography; there are some truly remarkable 'money shots', mostly involving Ghidorah, and as a whole it's really effective at making you feel close to the action. The human plot only got a bit tiresome before the god-tier final act (from when Godzilla 'died' to when Madison set up the Orca in the stadium) but on the whole I didn't mind it as much as most.

No way. I felt that around 70% of the movie satiated my hunger for mayhem.

Snatch - 9/10

Enjoy this just as much every time I watch it, manages to be violent and seedy yet still remain hilarious.

Still haven't got a bloody clue what Pitt is saying for 90% of his dialogue though .
