It's genuinely an awful film. It insinuates Mercury died because of his gayness (personified by the villain of the piece) and presents the rest of the band as choir-boys who desperately tried to save him from said lifestyle. It's either drowning in sepia or so oversaturated it hurts the eyes. The editing is genuinely amateurish (cutting from a rooster crowing to the Gallileo high note of the big song itself, from Mercury's plughole to a satellite dish etc etc) and it leaves precisely zero rock film cliches untouched.

It's strawberry floating...trash.

Bohemian Rhapsody had involvement from Dexter Fletcher and so as a result I concur with Taf's view - it is impossible for it to be good.

Sunshine on Leith was good though

I really enjoyed it. The Northern Irish fella is evil. It works for me.

Spiderman Homecoming - 7/10

Not brilliant but it was enjoyable enough, certainly better than expected.

On a slightly different note, got an email from hmv today saying that they'll be relaunching their reward points programme and that the points i had gathered (over 200,000) will be carried over from my old purehmv profile.

Really, really pleased by this.

Booksmart - A minus

Pretty well crafted with snappy dialogue and well crafted ensemble cast, but very traditional structure

A Single Man - B

Powerful acting papers over a very thin plot with over forecasted denouement and reliance on set pieces.

Moonlight - A

Beautiful from beginning to end. Superbly acted, casted and written, with the best cinematography I can remember seeing.

Men In Black International - 4/10; below average, nearly fell asleep. Best part was the little joke where Chris Hemsworth stretches and tries to get to a hammer in a funny Thor nod the enemies, gadgets and story were all uninspired.

I gave up on the Men in Black franchise after the sequel

Dunkirk - 8/10

Quite a slow burner and relatively subdued compared to typical war films but the cinematography and atmosphere are what make it stand out.

There's a genuine sense of dread when you hear the fighter bombers swooping down, I can't imagine just how terrifying it must have been for the real-life soldiers

It all looks glorious in 4K too.

Death Wish 3 - 5/10


The story is very dumb and cliched the characters in the flat generic as strawberry float. Overall there is a rubbish story and plot very OTT and stupid at times. But its one of those films you turn your brain off and enjoy it for what it is

Johnny Mnemonic 1995/10

There's a decent story here, hidden under layers of truly awkward film making and terribly directed acting. That story is the original book/short story. The film adds nothing except some terrible costumes, questionable race representation and some actually quite impressive CGI sequences.

Still, it's a laugh, a classic so bad it's good.

More work was needed on the period detail though, most viewers (basically those who haven't been to the town) wouldn't have noticed, but the tall city centre post-war hotel was clearly visible in the aerial shots.

I don't understand how, in this era of CGI being used to easily add/remove things, that it (and other such structures) were overlooked.

It's honestly one of my favourite films and I swear I spot something new each time I watch it (last time was the fact that the scissors the Nihilists are chasing the Dude with in his dream are from a painting on Maude's wall).
