Like I say it was good, and Nyongo was excellent, but it collapses under the weight of its own devices towards the end.

I was being sarcastic. There isn’t much that gives the game away in the first minute.

Nyongo's voice is quite something in the latter half. I'm amazed she didn't tear her throat in two.

Hell or High Water - 9/10

Had this recorded from Film Four ages ago and finally got round to watching it. Great movie, a cracking modern-western film that captures the bottoming out point of the effects of the Great Recession on rural America. Would watch again.

I understood what you meant when you said you guessed the twist within a minute – my own reply of “that’s impressive” was also a joke.

I think that both of you are missing some quotes around your use of the word "joke" there guys.

A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984)

Dr Sleep - 10/10

Now that was a good film. It's very slow and feels, much like Joker, like a film from a different age.

It's brutal and the bad guys are very bad people and one scene shows how evil they are and it's a tough watch. (Even for me, and I don't get bothered by films often)

It's a brilliant slow film which is never boring. It's intelligent and exceptionally well made. The film builds to a great ending and some of the scenes are brutal and unexpected.

It's a film I could sit though again straight away as it's just wonderful and the cast are all perfect. Also Rebecca Ferguson is stunning (as always)

A worthy sequel to The Shining that doesn't go for the easy route of a re run, instead it's exciting, very different and remarkably watchable.

Dr Sleep - 9/10

What a great film. Not so much a sequel to The Shining as an accompanyment to it, which was absolutely the right way to approach it. Sets up relative high concept stuff with ease and grounds the psychological mystical horror with a wonderfully personal story. It has a touch of the sinister creeping dread of the original that builds beautifully till it hits the proper sequel crescendo moment and you're gripping your seat thinking here we are, let's strawberry floating go!

Only missed out on a 10 as some of the replacement actor stuff is a little distracting and it felt for the ending they couldn't settle on one thing so it stumbles in the final delivery a touch.

Two and a half hours sailed by. Right up there with Blade Runner 2049 in terms of quality sequels to all time classics. Take a bow everyone involved.

Annihilation - 8/10

Incredibly atmospheric and eerie, quite unsettling at times too.

The bit with the mutated bear was pure nightmare fuel, that noise

Joker - 10/10

A little late to the party with this, went in expecting that it would probably turn out to be overhyped but found it an absolutely enthralling watch and deserving of all the plaudits its been getting. Joaquin Phoenix is incredible and the way the story builds and Arthur Fleck's character develops is superbly written.

Pet Sematary (2019)

Meh, nothing new. It's fine.

The French Connection 2 7/10

The cold turkey scenes are brilliantly done and acted by gene hackman

Got...ooooh 15 minutes into Ready Player One before I had to turn it off. Everything looks so...muddy and confusing and the script is, right now, on the same level as the fake on-line banter EA or Ubisoft use when trailing games like Anthem or Wildlands.

I'm going to have to watch it in chunks if I want to get through it I think.

Guess you weren't ready.

Got to the bit where the two leads are just stood there reeling off pop culture references like an episode of the strawberry floating Big Bang Theory
