Moon

8/10

Excellent performance by Sam Rockwell sold it for me. Also a fairly simplistic plot but gripping instead of overdrawn slow plodding shite you usually get in a space sci-fi film (Intersellar and the one with Brad Pitt.)

After watching the series, I thought I'd give the movie a go. What a disaster.

It looked perfect, the costumes, scenery and special effects were all great. The vast majority of my score is based on that, it looked great.

The casting was appalling though, not one character was cast properly. And some of the acting was atrocious.

Genuinely amazed that they strawberry floated this up so badly.

I don't think M. Night Shyamalan has made a single film I've enjoyed.

It's a remake of sixth sense with a different twist.

Edit: It's not that bad but doesn't hold up to subsequent watches.

Sinister 2

Exactly what you'd expect. Perfectly serviceable, completely unremarkable, good background noise while you do something else.

SIGH.

Just to expand on this now I've had a couple of days to chew on it. The film is watchable, there's no obvious logic-breaking issues in that regard, but my god it's just so mediocre and forgettable.

Everything feels so rushed, scenes aren't allowed the time they need to breathe so it's hard to develop any emotional attachment to any of the characters, except maybe Sarah Connor but that's more nostalgia for T1 & T2 rather than anything this particular film does well. The intro where John Connor is killed by the Terminator at the beach (nice place to die, I guess) was done and dusted in about 40 seconds - well done on speed-running the lore of the entire franchise into the dirt :fp:

The villain of the piece, the Rev-9, was again a less-sophisticated Terminator than the T-1000 in T2. The designs of the enemies in this franchise continues to go backwards. It just seems like they can't come up with a baddie that's as awesome and threatening as that T-1000 design - I honestly don't know why they didn't just try and bring Robert Patrick back for a big old T2 reunion. As it is, the Rev-9 is a flat, bland antagonist that doesn't really make the most of its abilities, barely using its ability to mimic people to get close to the target except for again a couple of very quick minutes where its her dad and then the rest of the film is just a generic looking Hispanic bloke who sports a permanent smirk.

Dani - the target of the Rev-9 - is completely forgettable and uninspired and acts like a complete idiot in several scenes. Grace, her protector is fine but her backstory is generic as strawberry float and we're shown very little evidence as to why she was chosen to be sent back - she's no Kyle Reese.

Arnie was fine, but he should stop appearing in these turds.

Also the CGI is all over the place - some of it is alright but most of it is really noticeable and cheap looking.

I would be more than happy for them just stop making Terminator films at this point - T1 and T2 are genuine cinematic masterpieces (T2 being possibly the greatest action film ever) and they just aren't getting anywhere close to them with all these follow-ups. If they simply have to keep flogging this dead horse then I'd rather they try and do a more contained, horror-style movie like T1, with less set-pieces and more atmosphere, but I can't see it happening.

I thought Grace was genuinely great.

Dani is rubbish though, it would have made much more sense if she has to die for some reason in the future, galvanising the resistance or whatever, and that’s why Grace is reluctant to tell her why she’s special. Her being the new John Conner is nonsensical.

Bill and Ted Face the Music 6/10: I still think the 1st one is the best. Perhaps slightly better than the second.

Enola Holmes 7/10: I like the characters, the plot was a tad predictable but it's decent enough.

North By Northwest 8.5/10

I didn't like the ending but otherwise this is a great movie. The cropdusting scene looked great, even if bloody stupid.

The Mummy (1999) 9/10

highly entertaining and watchable no matter how many times i have watched it. Pacing of the movie is really good the last 50 mins flies by this is a classic example of a remake done right just like Scarface was in 1983

Love that film, the CG effects still look decent too.
