Love this movie. And it was nice to see a version of Britain in the 2020's that was actually worse than the one we're living in.

Live Die Repeat - 8

Cruise's best film for a long time. A really interesting yet simple premise that twists and turns in fun ways. Central characters are great and the action is unique.

Children of Men has one of the best representations of the British tabloid media that I've ever seen committed to film. There's a news story near the start of the film about the death of the youngest person in the world that is incredibly lifelike. Brilliant film.

I decided to buy porcelain frying pans after watching that film. All my teflon ones were peeling and probably giving me cancer.

I'm not really huge on chucking a rating on films 'cause I don't know what the strawberry float I'm talking about but it's rarely stopped me in the past!

Calm With Horses - 7 - Enjoyed the grittiness and thought it was really well made but personally I could've done with a little more violence. Acting is good all round and the lead guy does a great job (as far as I'm aware, the guys from Southern England I think and to my Welsh ears he smashes it).

I am partial to a gritty Irish drama though.

I think it is Cruise's best action film. You could probably argue one or two of tbe better MI films tops it but the premise really makes it stand out. Emily Blunt is brilliant in it too.

Joker

I still think it's excellent and it looked great in 4K HDR. Got to watch Fury Road in 4K next

I couldn’t get past the first twenty minutes of Joker, I found it truly appalling. Not that my opinion means much...

They Live - 9/10. The more I see it, the more I’m convinced it’s up there with Escape From New York, Assault in Precinct 13 and The Thing as Carpenter’s absolute best.

Joker was just a really stupid film that felt like it thought it was being profound. Phoenix is good, the soundtrack is excellent, but the rest was utter tosh.

Phoenix and the soundtrack are what I watch it for. I'd agree it's not particularly clever. It's Taxi Driver in a Batman skin which is alright by me.

Saw Cape Fear for the first time last night. Was pretty good really. Standard 90s thriller tosh elevated by De Niro's frankly terrifying performance.

De Niro nailed that role

The Bart must Die episode of The Simpsons makes a lot more sense after seeing it.

Having watched the Simpsons episode many times and also recently watched Cape Fear, I found it made Cape Fear less interesting as;



The Sting 8/10: For 2 hours this felt quite pacey. Is a fun film, though now days you can see the ending a mile off. Watched prior to the Community spoof (which also again now makes more sense). Not sure I'd seen Robert Redford that young before.

Last Christmas

I went in expecting some twee shite Hallmark Christmas film, with ties to George Michael's music as loose as they are shameless.

I mean, it was absolutely all those things, but it was actually... good? It was surprisingly funny, and really quite sweet, and even went in some directions I didn't expect! I'd go as far as to say I might watch it again next Christmas!
