Malcolm and Marie - 4/10; Zendaya and John David Washington arguing on and off in a house for nearly 2 hours, with Zendaya’s pathetic acting trying to be covered by her skimpy outfits. I can’t wait to see if this picks up anything at the Oscars, should be the Razzies.

Greenland - 7

I actually really enjoyed this. Could never get on board with these types of films when I was younger as they scared me too much. Was nice to focus it around a family and not finding a solution to it all. After setting up the inevitability of it, I was surprised there was no last minute switcheroo. It was also nice to have some cool visual payoff because ending on the life flashing before your eyes bit would have sucked. It takes some real leaps of logic in human behaviour but if you ignore all that its good fun with good central performances and some great effects.

I could have happily accepted the visual payoff that was given, the shots of a global apocalypse – it was the ridiculous network of survivors in contact with each other after 9 months that made it massively stupid.

Not really more stupid than anything else in the film.

Not more stupid than anything else that took place throughout the film? Really? I assume you can quickly rattle off 10-20 examples then, of something as deeply unrealistic as the human race surviving and re-establishing a global network with each other just nine months after an impact of that magnitude, and I will look forward to reading them.

The only thing that springs to mind is the killer meteor shower that rains down on them before they take cover under a bridge, but I'm not even 100% certain if that is unrealistic (like... 95%) and in any case it obviously isn't on the same scale as the final scene.

I can't believe I'm having a debate about which scenes/events from a disaster movie are the most stupid.

Enter The Anime - 3/10
This was a short film/documentary (of sorts), supposedly trying to establish what anime is, its roots, its influences, etc. It did nothing to answer any of those questions. It gave very little context for someone if they're actually trying to learn more about anime (like the presenter was apparently trying to do), and seemed to just serve as a vehicle for the annoying presenter to get a free trip to Japan more than anything else. Random interviews, random clips of anime series (essentially an advert for the current anime series available on Netflix), and jumping all over the place with little to no structure or flow. Very poor, and a waste of time for all concerned.

Obviously the most ridiculous thing in the movie is thinking a global extinction event would be enough to kill Scott Glenn.

- The bus driver happily driving people around 24hours before the end of the world.
- The fact NASA missed the world ending comet.
- People being told via phone and TV that they would be given shelter (this is probably the single dumbest thing), like that wouldn't immediately result in absolute bedlam.
- Army dudes letting him get off the plane.
- People at the gates wanting to be let on planes utterly desperate for salvation but also happy to just let others wander to the front of the queue.
- The idea of that plane taking off with about 30 people on board.

I could definitely keep going and probably get to 15 but why bother. None of this bothered me. I don't see why the 9 month thing would be a particular hang up, it certainly seems reasonable that the bunkers could communicate.

I typed up a response to that but err let's just say we have to agree to disagree  when you get to the stage of comparing the realism of a man letting another man off a plane in a stressful situation with the final scene then you're too far gone for a discussion.

Also should probably spoiler all of your post...

I like the bit where they went to the fully setup lost children camp and were then offered to be moved to the family section. Then they were given all the meds they would ever need and then got an army arranged bus to drop them off.

I thought it was very kind of the army to provide all this in the final hours.

Loved Greenland. I was rooting for the characters all the way through.

Also it was so good to be watching a brand new big action movie even if it was on my TV. I miss the cinema :(

Greenland - 6/10

It's gooseberry fool and utterly stupid. But it's very watchable gooseberry fool with some nice set pieces.

Plus Morena Baccarin :datass:

It would have been better without the last few minutes.

Caught Willy's Wonderland this afternoon.

It was...fine I guess, but not as much fun as it should have been. I was only really half watching it and it never really got... appropriately wacky enough given the premise. It doesn't take itself too seriously, but it also never seems to really let loose with how daft the whole situation is.

And the bird with the cracking norks keeps her bra on in the sex scene so that's minus, like, a million points.

EDIT;

Seriously, why cast those and then keep them covered? I'm calling my member of parliament.

The Conjuring - 8/10
I usually find these sort of films quite dull and not at all scary. This one was actually very good. It is well shot without the usual reliance on cheap jump scares. The characters were actually interesting, and it kept me engrossed for the most part. Lots of screaming at the end was annoying though.

Annabelle Creation is a seriously underappreciated horror movie.

The Conjuring 2 and Annabelle Comes Home are both excellent too.

For starters, Luton would survive just fine due to it being so gosh darn amazing and I'm pretty sure they have already set-up communications between countries in case of WW3 with hardened underground cables.
I thought it was more odd that the shelter in Greenland seemed to be full of just Americans and not a single person from Denmark or the rest of Europe.

I also go with a 7/10 rating for the film.
