I reckon if you stopped a film i was really enjoying at the half way point and asked me to name the characters, I'd struggle, let alone if time has passed afterwards

I can watch and thoroughly enjoy entire series of a television programme and still struggle to name more than 2-3 characters.

If Talented Actor doesn't get an Oscar nomination for his portrayal of John Everyman then I'm officially done with awards season.

A New Hope 9/10
Kicked started the frachise, fantastic film and very memorable.

Empire Strikes Back 10/10
Easily the best film of the franchise, so many iconic moments and that ending.

Return of the Jedi 8.5/10
Not quite as good as the previous two films, but still a great end to the trilogy and where it should've ended.

Force Awakens 8/10
Very enjoyable start to this new trilogy, that mostly plays on nostalgia and it's essential a modern version of A New Hope.

The Last Jedi 6/10
Not as bad as what I first thought of it, still drags on a bit imo.

Rise of Skywalker 6.5/10
A incredibly average end to this new trilogy that plays heavily on nostalgia, but less on character development.

Tafdolphin wrote:I can see what's there to enjoy, but to me it was Nolan at his most insufferable. There are zero actual characters and absolutely no emotional hooks: it is spectacle unfettered by empathy or engagement. The protagonist is literally called The Protagonist for a reason: Nolan doesn't care about people he cares about systems and this is a film about systems and puzzles. The time stuff isn't incomprehensible because it's too complex, it's incomprehensible because it's meant to be, it's shot in a way that makes no sense in real time and so has to be unpacked after the fact. But why would you want to do that if you don't care, and you don't care because there are no emotions to engage with.

It's a Rubik's cube of a film and hollow as a kinderegg.

A kinderegg has a strawberry floating toy in the middle.

iirc some people don't like the second one as much as the first, but personally I love them both

I remember somewhat enjoying this film as a child, I dread to think how bad it actually is.

Didn't Arnold Schwarzenegger trick Sylvester Stallone into taking this part by making it seem like he was really interested, when he'd actually read the script and had no intention of doing the film? Genius if true.

Allegedly so.

Like, it's an awful movie. It's clearly an awful movie. But at the same time, it's hilarious. Admittedly for all the wrong reasons, but there were parts of it where I couldn't stop laughing, while also feeling genuinely sorry for everyone involved in the making of the film.

I've not seen any of them all the way through (just a few mins here and there), but the first was great fun, and so am really looking forward to seeing the second.

Watched a few choice Marvel movies tonight:

Dr. Strange - 8/10
Ant-Man and the Wasp - 7/10
Endgame - 9/10

I think if I looked at the mall with genuine objectivity you can knock a point off for each score, but I really like the movies, they're nice and comfy to go back to randomly.

Arnold  part of me thinks we could have missed out on another comedy classic, I’m sure he would have elevated that movie in the same way that kindergarten cop with Stallone would be gooseberry fool

Super 8.

JJ abrams is a bit gooseberry fool. Builds some good story and some good human interaction, but then throws a bunch of random chaotic unexplained crap, and the film abruptly finishes. 5/10.

Yep, it's a strangely disappointing film that. It's very busy, it's set up nicely, but nothing goes anywhere. Just a lot of stuff happening.
