Holy gooseberry fool, this was so badly written. So many issues with this, but I think the part that annoyed me most was how they didn't didn't put crash mats out for the people teleporting back and let them land on concrete instead.

I kind of enjoyed watching it but when you think back the plot just makes zero sense.
The Aliens themselves didn't look all that powerful and I'm unsure how they could wipe out humanity even if there were a strawberry floating shitload of them. Yeah, ok they take quite a few bullets to kill but any half-decent special forces outfight would wipe the floor with them.
Also if we know they're about to wipe out humanity and can send people back in time just strawberry floating nuke the location where they come from.
Use 5 nukes if you want to make super sure, it's the future of humanity here.
If humanity can be wiped out by monsters whose only weapon seems to be a dart made from ice then they deserve to be wiped out for being so totally inept.

I'd agree with that. 1994 was a bit too obvious in wearing it's influences on it's shirt. That opening sequence really did blur the line between homage and outright plagiarism when it came to mimicking Scream. strawberry floating hell though that
bread slicer kill. For a movie that was basically a ante-upped episode of Are You Afraid of the Dark that was BRUTAL.
1978 was probably the most well rounded and did a better job of mixing up the tropes to hide the influences.
1666 was probably the most uneven as the Crucible stuff was largely guff (except for the bit with the priest in church
), but I did really like how they tied everything together in the end. A satisfying mix of predictable and surprising.
Solid 7/10 overall.

I saw In The Heights the other day. Really enjoyed it. The only bad (but also amusing) aspect of the experience was a girl in the cinema who started crying when
the neighbourhood Abuela died and literally did not stop for the rest of the film! She was sat in the row behind me so I heard every sob and sniffle for the remaining what must have been at least 45 minutes, maybe even an hour. It was as though she was having some sort of emotional, religious experience.

Candyman - 7/10
I don’t think it has aged very well but still a solid film. Lighter on the scares than I remembered. Looking forward to see where they go with the remake.

Fun action flick; taken with the X-Men franchise and the Sam Raimi Spiderman films I can say that I miss this early era of Marvel movies.

Damn, y’know what, I watched it recently and it has aged superbly. Just found out it got a 4K release as well!

Duel (1971)
Even as his first full length feature it's clear Spielberg was destined for greatness. Some brilliant camera work and direction that builds on the tension to the very end.

Still a great movie. Wonderfully blood thirsty. Forgot Fassbender was in it.

Christine (1983)
Always liked this film and it remains a firm favourite. There's something I find particularly unsettling about 70 and 80s horror, something I feel has been lost with modern efforts but I can't put my finger on what that is. Maybe older horror movies are just simply better?
There's so many great moments in this movie. The "Show me" self repair scene and flaming Christine 'Hell on Wheels" murder of school bully, Buddy, are particularly brilliant.

Now I'm watching The Hitcher (1986) and tomorrow evening will be Near Dark (1987)

Hitcher and Near Dark are awesome movies, Bill Paxton in Near Dark is brilliant the bar scene is him at his most wildest and having fun with his character

The Hitcher (1986)
Another classic.
Something I noticed that I never did before is that John 'The Hitcher' Ryder later has two wedding rings on his wedding finger, no doubt from the family he killed, (which you don't actually see beyond the abandoned car), near the beginning of the movie. The severed finger he placed in Jim's fries at the cafe is obviously from one of the parents. Don't know how I missed the rings before, but it's added another level of grim.
Between this, Duel and Texas Chainsaw Massacre I never want to go on a road trip through America.

Near Dark (1987)
Still one of the best vampire movies ever made. Great story and superb performances throughout.

Studio 54
The story of Steve Rubell and his New York nightclub 54. Not a terrible film and it gives a pretty good insight to the somewhat decadent disco scene long before the corporations took over. However, it's a little sloppy in its direction and it's difficult to really care for anyone in it.
