Lightyear 5/10

Genuinely don't understand how this is the story they decided upon after coming up with the idea of doing a Lightyear film. No way is an 8 year old Woody getting excited about a film like this, which was weirdly serious in tone and went for a plot around time dilation rather than Buzz visiting vibrant planets with exotic aliens. It has a few funny moments but it's quite dull in the end and I didn't like the main twist at all. Not terrible but not great either.

I just watched this too and had almost exactly the same reaction. I did like the characters though, and there were some nice visual gags. A 5/10 is fair.

Spent a lot of time on planes over the summer;

Matrix 4 - The first hour is so baseball-bat-to-the-teeth unsubtle commentary about the nature of franchises and reboots that they forgot to include a story, which made the second half even more boring when they leaned heavily into the least interesting 'power-of-love' thematic guff from the shitter films.

Moonfall - Probably the dumbest film I've ever seen.

Northman - I actually gave up watching this because I felt it was too good to be experienced on a 6 inch screen 30cm from my face, so make of that what you will.

Resident Evil - Crammed in so many references to the game that they forgot to actually include a story.

Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent - Really enjoyed it, but it lost steam in the third act when it actually had to deal with the story.

Morbius - Not as bad as it was made out but Jared Leto is such a boring screen presence. Matt Smith made the most of what he could but Leto is just such a charisma vacuum.

Uncharted - Perfectly serviceable action romp. Good Sunday Afternoon background noise.

The Requin - Bloody odd for basically a shark attack movie, but not boring.

Spencer - Turned this one off. On a plane. Can't remember why, I think Stewart had some verbal affectation that did my head in.

I legit love Moonfall

I agree on Matrix 4, the meta commentary meeting scene where they was talking about what the Matrix should be, got me excited like they were super aware of milking franchises and reboots for the sake of it and this film was going to be something special defy expectations - only for the second half of the film to just be the most generic action.

I have to say I agree unfortunately - interesting characters, I actually did like the twist (and didn't see it coming) but it was a little too serious in tone and I too would have preferred something more fun

Am i the only person who has seen all 3 matrix films yet has no interest in seeing the crappy reboot. The first is a classic the 2nd is goodish but it drags on too long and has so much boring talking scenes the 3rd is a pile of gooseberry fool

Considering the reboot did a fraction of what the others did at the box office, I don't think you're the only one, no.

It's an exceptional film.

I really like Eggers's work but I'm pretty sure this didn't too well at the box office so it may be some time before we see another big budget release from him which is a shame.

I like all 3 Matrix films, but the reboot is not good.

It basically retcons stuff, the action isn't great, and worse, some of the effects are kind of terrible. Especially in one pivotal scene.

The concept is really cool though as are the themes. Just a shame WB essentially forced Lana to make a new film rather than her having an organic idea to make one.

I was HYPED when the trailers came out and was really enthusiastic about it, but then as the reviews trickled out I lost all interest and don't know if I'll ever bother committing 90 mins of my life to watching it. Real shame.

I was enthralled during the first half or so of the film. Then it sort of starts to come apart a bit, before rapidly spiralling out of control in the last 15 minutes.

It's entertaining enough though, even when it goes totally nuts at the end. A big let down is any fight scene with Neo where he uses some sort of telekinetic force instead of actual fighting, but there is decent action around that. I've got it recorded on my Sky box and am quite keen to watch it a second time to see how it holds up after the initial cinema viewing.

I'm the opposite. I was a bit confused as to what was going on and hated the idea that every scene from the original movies was 'footage from the game' :fp:

Once
Neo took the pill and we saw Io, it started to go in a slightly different direction and became less meta and less of a retread.

Obviously, nothing compared to the original but what's odd about the reboot is that it falters every time it tries to replicate what's come before (the fight scenes are surprisingly terrible and weightless), whereas it really pays off when it tries something new.

Chip 'n Dale: Rescue Rangers film - 10 / 10 Loved it, genuinely really funny and a little surprised Disney allowed its characters to be used in this way and shown in this light (Always thought Disney were quite precious about the wholesome image of its IPs). I want to watch Roger Rabbit now. Also original movie Sonic :D
