Jurassic World Fallen Kingdom. 8/10, a great solid blockbuster. Really enjoyed it. A twist to the style of the film and very different from the previous one. Hope there is a third film.

Reportedly after this:

Apparently one of the worst films of the last few years.

Ghostbusters (2016) - 6/10

Saw this popped up on Netflix and thought I would give it a go. Wasn't anywhere near as bad as I thought it would be! Obviously it is not a patch on the original, or even the sequel, but based on the general impression I had from when it came out I thought it was supposed to be utter shite?

I didn’t think it was shite, just a resounding meh.

Yeah 5 or 6 out of 10 range sounds right, GhostBusters 2016 could have been a lot worse.

Black Panther - 6/10

Found this to be rather dull compared to some of the other recent marvel movies, the Korean chase was a fun highlight and Wakanda was beautifully designed, but the story kept slowing to a crawl and i wasn't a fan of the preachy racial undertones which kept popping up along the way. All in all, an above average superhero movie which has been overhyped due to the skin colour of the cast.

It was certainly no Thor: Ragnarok.

The Departed.

Not Scorsese's best gangster flick, but still very good and an excellent homage to Infernal Affairs.

8/10

Jurassic World - Fallen Kingdom 6/10

I actually enjoyed this a lot for what it is, a big dumb summer blockbuster. I went in with zero expectations which probably helped, but I did enjoy the ride. The action sequences were fun and it's probably because of my Jurassic Park nostalgic bias but I did get into it. It's well paced and the lead actors are fine in their parts too. Saying that, there are so many moments that if you stop and think about, are really stupid. For example, the guy's tablet thing breaking at the start and stopping the water gate closing, as if it would be designed like that.... The ending bugged me as well, as if you'd just let everything, including carnivores like T-Rexs out in into California. And why didn't they just leave them in the cage and open the giant door to the outside to ventilate the room instead?! Also, the script isn't great in places and the new supporting characters are fairly bland, but minor complaints I guess.

It probably deserves a 7 to reflect how much I enjoyed it but I've knocked a point off because of the trailers absolutely ruining some potentially great moments, for example, the guy getting eaten from the ladder at the start was completely ruined by the trailer. I was waiting for it to happen the whole time. Honestly, those trailers had no respect at all for the viewer. Seems to be a more and more common trend, going to have to really start trying to avoid them.

Ghostbuster 2016 5/10 - Completely average in every way. The worse bit though, that Dan Aykroyd cameo, that was really strawberry floating dreadful.

Ah yes this is now on Netflix. Suitable for a 9 and 12 year old? The wife is out with friends Friday so planned on having a movie night with my daughters.

I guess it depends on your 9 year old. I thought the opening sequence was probably a bit too scary for my kids who are 8 and 12 but they're big wusses. I'd say it was scarier than the library scene in the original and it also hasn't got any blowjob jokes in it either.

Let them watch something more fun and uplifting, like The Road.

I think she might be okay, she's not a wuss and was fine with people being eaten in Jurassic Park. I'll have a look at the intro myself just to be sure.

Cheers, mate.

I've not seen the new one, but it has a scene scarier than the library scene? Man, that used to really creep me out as a kid. Scariest scene in the series is Janosh dressed as woman stealing a baby though :dread:

I had to fast forward the library scene as a kid. Also, lots of nightmares about Vigo the Carpathian and the "Wiiiiiiiinnnnnston" bit the heads on sticks.

Fun fact - one of my best mates dad looks a bit like Vigo the Carpathian.
