Molly's Game. Yeah... ok. Interesting-ish story. Jessica Chastain has got magical cleavage. 6.5/10. (7.5/10 for the boobs.)

Whilst not a patch on the original (none of them are!) Die Hard 2 is still a very entertaining movie, certainly better than 4.0 by a considerable margin!

Movies watched over the Christmas period:

Ant-Man - 8/10

Enjoyed this far more than I thought I would. I was put off watching it for ages as I had always wanted to see what Edgar Wright was going to do with it, but it was on TV and so I thought I'd finally give it a go. Despite finding Rudd annoying in most things he was actually decent in this and the miniaturisation effects were impressive. Thomas the Tank Engine fight was probably the highlight of the movie for me.

Doctor Strange - 8/10

Another one that I had concerns about before going in but turned out to be a really enjoyable experience. Far from the best Marvel movie ever but it told a good story, the effects were impressive and Cumberbatch et al. do a great job selling it. Genuinely intrigued to see what they do with the character next (note I've not watched Infinity War yet so he could well be dead by now for all I know!)

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.2 - 9/10

Not as good as the first but still a great romp! The Marvel "de-ageing" technology was put to good use on Kurt Russell who puts in a decent villain performance - something which the MCU has sometimes struggled with.

Die Hard 4 is, unquestionably, poor. Die Hard 2, though, is strawberry floating abysmal. Haven't been able to bring myself to watch 5.

Ghost Stories - 5/10

Well made but a bit odd. Thinks it's smarter than it is. Used every trick in the book from better films. Worth a look for something a bit different but don't expect anything amazing.

Wreck-It Ralph 2: Wreck-It Ralph Wrecks the Wreck-Internet - 7.9/10

While I, once again, enjoyed the plethora of media references, I feel like some of the humour was very much a copy/paste job from the first, which isn't necessarily a bad thing, though some parts get staled out. However the film is much more faithful to what it's referencing than the first, and the character development remains a staple. The underlying story is great too, albeit fragmented across what's essentially 3 story lines. The biggest negatives I can think of is that one scene in the dark web net, where they see that guy's cousin to get a virus, and he has that weird ass face in his chest/neck and it's just disturbing as strawberry float, unsettling and seemingly out of place. The puns in this scene were pretty obvious and felt a little forced too. And the other scene, the fight against the giant Ralph virus. It went on a bit too long for my liking, and the end result wasn't all that satisfying and a bit anti-climactic; why give a solution to a problem which the audience roots for and then resolve it through a less satisfying way? Still a great film overall though. Definitely worth a watch, especially if you liked the first.

I agree. He kills a helicopter with a car in 4.

Black Panther - 8/10

Excellent movie, really well made with only a couple of issues that stops it being perfect. Poor final one on one battle being the main issue. The music really shines and the film just felt like it was made with a lot of love.

I don't get the hatred for Die Hard 2, it's an enjoyable film. I haven't seen Vengeance since I was much younger, clearly need to rewatch it as it's widely regarded as the second best.

I don't get it either. DH2 is a great action movie. The first is definitely better, and nothing beats Hans as a villain, but the second movie is still great fun.

Obviously no opinion is definitive but I downloaded it specifically because I remembered it being good fun the last time I saw it. Instead what I got was a confused mess of boring setpieces framed by a nonsensical plan from an utterly boring villain.

I can forgive a lot when it comes to 80s action flicks but there's no artistry there at all, just a cynical rechecking of boxes to cash in on a great film.

Sorry :(

That’s unfair. Gal Godot alone pushes it to 3/10 :datass:
