A good week of films. I've barely been able to stop thinking about The Exorcist.

You'd think they ought to have done better with Hopkins, Norton and Fiennes on the cast list, but it's a bit average.

Just started Hannibal (the film) and it's also a bit meh so far. (I watch films in chunks on my commute, and Netflix doesn't have Silence of the Lambs).

I think what I really need is a film that's just Anthony Hopkins talking as Lecter. He's so good.

What you really need is Manhunter as that's the best of all the films.

I assumed that was sarcasm but then read the reviews

I've literally never heard of it until now.

Edit: I was wrong, above: SotL is on Netflix.

Manhunter is sublime, well worth a watch.

It's utterly brilliant. Brian Cox is an excellent Leckor (intentional spelling) and it has a fantastic 80s soundtrack. But the best bit of all is the procedural forensic stuff, without this film there'd be no CSI. It's Michael Mann to the max though, almost too much style over substance.

Hannibal TV series , Manhunter, Silence of the Lambs. In that order, anything else is ok for a bit of fun (apart from teen Hannibal, that was a very bad movie)

Escape Room - 2019 - 8/10

Basically it's SAW for the Instagram generation.

It's watchable, no time is wasted. No gore or splat but the plot is interesting enough. It does have huge potential.... And towards the end I did hope this was a top secret sequel to Saw in the style of Split... But it isn't.

Oh and you know how many movies try to set up a sequel, well this one goes one better by starting the second film in the last 10 minutes or so of this film. Less of a tease more of a to be continued. Worth a watch though.

I went to the cinema to see Escape Room and I agree it's an 8/10.

I went because I loved the film The Cube and this seemed like a modern twist and while it's pretty much the same idea it's much more action oriented rather than concentrating on solving puzzles. It's worth a watch if you enjoy seeing people forced to get out of an unfortunate situation but don't expect Oscar worth stuff.

Polar - unwatchable gooseberry fool. Turned it off after 10 mins. It opens with a scene featuring Johnny Knoxville which should tell you what you're in for.

Velvet buzzsaw 4/10 - An interesting idea at first, which degenerates into the most un-scary film that's supposed to be scary. It's the kind of thing a school kid would write as a spooky story. And then THE EYES MOVED AND A LOUD BANG HAPPENED. I also thought it was pretty pathetic the way Jake's character is gay, and they don't make a thing out of it which is great, but then pretty quickly for no apparent reason they decide to make him un-gay, as if people wouldn't carry on watching with a gay lead, so hey don't worry he likes women now carry on

Kill List - 10/10

A film best seen with no idea if what it is. Genuinely brilliant with a very strong ending. Though the ending was done before in a film released the year before. Arguably this did it better and is a much better film.

Amazing use of sound and some really well filmed violence. A film which makes you think and sent me off to read about it as soon as it finished.

All I could think about with his character was

Manhunter is good but it isn't as good as Silence of the Lambs.
