30 Minutes or Less (2011) - *
Citizen Kane (1941) - ****
End of Watch (2012) - ***
One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest (1975) - *****
La La Land (2016) - ***
Birdman (2014) - ****

Lawrence of Arabia (1962) - *****
Visually beautiful and a film that actually warrants being called epic. Coordinating those scenes with hundreds of extras must have been a ballache.

Das Boot (1981) - *****
Bloody loved this! I'm a sucker for stories set in enclosed or limited locations and that sub provides one of the most claustrophobic backdrops I've seen in a film. A masterpiece of tension and top tier war film.

It's a fantastic film. The apparent single-shot and constant accompaniment of the drums builds constant tension throughout almost the entire run, it's engrossing. I've never seen anything else quite like it (although Bojack Horseman maybe comes close in its themes and surrealism), and the ambiguity lends itself to interpretation. It's a film actually worth thinking about.

I'd give it 5 stars.

Avengers Endgame - 8/10

I loved it, but I did have a few issues and it's not as good as Infinity War.

Together they are a fantastic end to a brilliant 10 years of cinema.

I've watched a few superhero movies these past couple of days.

Avengers: Endgame - Lots of characters, lots of action and a few surprises; great fun! 8/10.

Deadpool 2 - I'm not normally much of a fan of crude n' rude stuff ("you're so boring, jawa") but I LOVED the first Deadpool film and I have watched it several times... which makes the quality of this sequel all the more disappointing. The jokes seemed second-rate compared to the first film, I found it pretty dull and, well, it all felt a bit phoned-in. 4/10.

Venom - I really like the darker characters in comics and this means that I can overlook a few drawbacks; I hugely enjoyed this. 8/10.

Spiderman: Into the Spider-verse

10/10 - best film I've seen in a long time. I loved the animation style and it was some of the most technically impressive I've ever seen as well. The writing was brilliant, the story was great, the sound track was perfect and the characters likeable. I could watch it again in an hour and not be bored.

There are so many references throught the film as well that I must have missed a tonne of them.

What about the rest of the drawbacks?

I'm kidding :) while it's not exactly challenging any clichés it's still a fun movie that's just easy to sit down and watch. I find there are less movies like this now than there were in the late 90s / early 00s.

Yeah easy the best Spider-Man film.

At push it’s the best superhero film. Even more than all MCU.

Weirdly I also watched Spider-Verse last night. The post-credits scene is amazing :slol:

What's with the weird ghosting/blurring effect, though? Kept making me think that my TV was playing up

I think it's canonically something to do with reality starting to bend in on itself with all the Spider-people being out of their element. From a design perspective it probably just looked cool when they were testing stuff so they left it in.

The visuals in that movie are absolutely groundbreaking. Genuinely amazing.

I'd somehow missed it in the cinema so it was the first time I saw it last night. Genuine laugh out loud

For those thst haven't seen it, try and see a 4K HDR one if you can, it looks amazing.

I'm surprised anyone who likes deadpool wouldn't like the sequel, it's so much more of the same.

It sort of was, Orange... but just not as good in nearly all areas. Dang, even the opening credits - which were pretty funny in the original - seemed like some quick, budget version in the sequel. For me, D1 was genuinely funny and a real blast, whilst D2 felt like a far weaker imitation.

Yeah, Deadpool 2 is weaker than the first one.

But I found it funny as hell. It’s a solid film. Loved the bit where he bumps off someone during the end credits and apologised for it.
