Society is a 10/10 film for its atmosphere and sense of impending doom. The final is jaw dropping as are the little glimpses of what is to come. I've got the Blu-ray and would love to see it in 4k.

Capt America the first Avenger. I like origin stories. And this is the best of them. Having recaped Ultron and IW for EG, this is still the best. Stark is the hero yes, but Cap is the underdog that comes good. Outside of the ensemble films, this is the best. 10/10.

The First Avenger is probably always going to be my fav MCU film. Is it the best? No. Is it the one with the most heart, the one with the best characters and perhaps the most to say? Undoubtedly.

Down from an 8 on first viewing, on a second go it failed to keep our attention for long and we ended up not finishing it. It's a remarkable piece of work in terms of its afrofuturist aesthetic and soundscape, but the story really slows down after Killmonger comes to Wakanda and some/most of the CGI is awful. The ending is also a needless waste of a character that was just getting started.

Slender Man

Being a fan of ghost stories and the like I always liked the idea of Slender Man, unfortunately the film is naff. Not at all scary and it doesn't go anywhere. A prime example of a good idea gone to waste.

The Youtube series of Slenderman vids is probably the closest thing to genuinely scared any fictional thing has made me.

Its the eerily distorted audio that does it.

Last Jedi: Took me ages to get round to watching this as all the negativity surrounding it put me off but turns out I rather enjoyed it. I even thought the fanboy trolling ending was a far more interesting and unexpected approach than taking the obvious route they could have taken.

7/10 Definitely not the best Star Wars film but not even close to being the worst.

Lots of films over the last few weeks due to long flights and travelling:

Venom - A bit unbalanced and messy, but entertaining nonetheless. 6/10

The Grinch (2018) - Dull and uninteresting. Caused me to nod off before jetlag did! 3/10

Searching - Gripping and full of plot twists. I liked the techniques the movie used to tell its story. 7/10

Roma - A lovely film, very beautifully shot and full of character & heart. 8/10

Lion - A powerful and emotional true story. Well acted if a little long. 7/10

Aquaman - Absolutely crazy, but in a good way. Fun and not too serious like most DC films. 7/10

Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald - Just very average, from the characters to the plot to the performances. 4/10

Hotel Artemis - Reasonably entertaining and doesn't outstay its welcome. 6/10

Teen Titans Go! To the Movies - Surprisingly enjoyable and funny. Has a similar playfulness to Into the Spider-Verse. 7/10

New Hellboy 5/10

Pretty gooseberry fool, but not as catastrophically bad as I'd been led to believe. It made sense as whole at least.

Still. Story was gooseberry fool, acting was atrocious (Ian McShane and Daimio especially) CGI looked cheap as strawberry float. In several scenes it looked like it was directly imitating not just Del Toro's Hellboy films but his other work too (the Baba Yaga scene was something straight from Pan's Labyrinth). The script thought it was about ten times funnier than it actually was too.

It had zero charm and made no lasting impressions at all.

Shame.

I thought it was a bit disposable when I seen it in the cinema. The visuals were cool at times, his sister was great, but the rest of it just never really grabbed me.

Felt the same about Captain Marvel tbh.

Detective Pikachu - 5 *

It's the best videogame movie and the closest you'll get to pokemon in real life. A unique adaptation that still remains faithful and has a clear love for the source material. The story holds it together well enough but the real focus is seeing these characters on screen. It's funny, nostalgic and just wholesome fun :wub:

Yep. It's certainly not a perfect film but I think any pokemon fan is going to come away happy, so it achieves everything it needs to

That's exactly what I wanted to hear about it! I knew it wasn't going to be all-time classic cinema, but if it's fun and does the world of Pokemon some justice, I'm sure I'll love it. Probably seeing it tomorrow!

I agree, any Pokémon fan will come away very happy with Detective Pikachu, some great scenes in there, lots of nods to the games (obviously :lol:

) and it just looks and sounds great. I’m honestly tempted to go and give it a second viewing before it finishes at the cinema, doubt it will be there for long compared to some films (the recent Star Wars, Infinity War and I imagine Endgame will have very long runs at most cinemas).

Pokemon Detective Pikachu 9/10
Best Pokemon film I have seen, so realistic and loved the acting. Awesome that it was set in London too :wub:

Into the Spiderverse - 8/10

Absolutely adored this in the cinema. Doesn’t hold up quite as well on a second viewing. First half is definitely the strongest and it looks phenomenal and has a brilliant soundtrack but the dialogue doesn’t seem quite as snappy and it’s not as relentlessly funny as I remember it.

Will definitely be getting several more rewatches though.

Detective Pikachu - 7/10

Lovely little film. Best bits all in the trailer and end ending was obvious but still really enjoyable. The animation and effects were stunning especially Pikachu.

Highlight was ,"Serenity Now" I bloody love a Seinfeld reference.

Also Mr Mime seemed to uncross his legs like basic instinct, strange times we live in.
