Last film you watched and your rating

Toy Story 4. Has to be a 10. It’s absolutely incredible and everything about it hits the mark. It really felt like it has grown up with its audience. Sitting watching it with my 9 year old lad and it just gives all the feels. Make sure you stay for the 4 little credit pieces at the end. The very last one when one of the characters asks how we are alive and the response is beautiful. Up there with Inside Out as a total classic.

Just got back from watching Toy Story 4 with the little'un. Loved every minute of it and it was a sad end to Woody and Co. Animation was top notch too. Got 2 free augmented reality Toy Story books too from Odeon.

10 Trash out of 10 Trash.

The end? Guess woody and co get minced or crushed or burnt up. I didn't know this was meant to be the last toy story. Shame. Will have to watch it asap.

Pirates of the Caribbean - Salazar's Revenge

This has all the beats, characters, visuals and setpieces but it felt very by-the-numbers and far too convoluted. Its a shame as the world they've created is really interesting with some great characters and i'd be happy to play a mythological pirate game as a tabletop rpg setting, but the films have to stop now.

Toy Story 4.

Absolutely incredible, the most endearing set of new characters out of any of the sequels. The dynamics of Key & Peele had us crying with laughter.

And the state of the CGI now? strawberry float me, it was gorgeous. The difference between this and the first film is l i g h t y e a r s (lol) The opening scene with the torchlight shining on RC in the rain looked unbelievable. The combination of lighting and the way they animated certain toys, particularly when they're 'playing dead', it all felt so real. I was absolutely convinced that the Duke Caboom advert used a real life plastic toy.

Also strawberry float those Goosebumps-ass dummies. Horrifying. :cry:

Cinema
Toy Story 4 - 8/10. Saw it Sunday. Good way of tying up Woody's arc but they wasted too much time on the Forky/Gabby Gabby scenes. Bo's transition from who she was in TS1 and TS2 to who she is in this one isn't explained - what happened her? And she seemed a little mean at times. The stuff Buzz did was out of character. And Bonnie LOVED Woody in TS3 so the way she treats him at the start of this movie doesn't make sense.

I loved the message.

The ending scenes made me cry.

The animation is better than ever. Rewatched the first three movies in preparation for this and oooh boy the difference in animation between even TS3 and this is phenomenal.

ENDGAME - 11/10. The Perfect Movie. It wrapped up Tony's and Steve's stories in the most beautiful, poetic ways. It was completely emotional. Good fan service without being at the cost of the plot. Good humour (especially Hulk). Great fight scene. Black Widow's most important scene in this movie was so powerful.

Watched it the first week it came out so enough time has passed to say this - this is my favourite movie of all time. True it has a decade of story telling to help it but it's such a great conclusion.

NOT CINEMA
Big Daddy - 5/10. Adam Sandler back when he was at his best. Great debut performance by the Sprouse twins. Really liked the main lady in this movie, the scene with her and Adam saying night to Sprouse was super sweet. Unrealistic conclusion and not a masterclass in storytelling by any means but a fun movie.

In My Brothers Shoes - 1/10. Movie about two brothers. Brother A is a successful straight guy with a wife and corporate job. Brother B is a cute down on his luck gay guy who works at the till at a restaurant but makes little money. They end up switching lives for a day (think Vice Versa, Freaky Friday etc). Interesting premise, awful execution. Annoying gay stereotype as the other main character (the gay brother's best friend) and a surprising inclusion of a gay character whose basically a rapist. Other than that they went for the obvious jokes - gay guy has to sleep with straight guy's wife, straight guy has to do a drag show. A twelve year old could write a better movie than that

Toy Story 4 - I have to echo the sentiments of most other people and say it was very good. For a sequel nobody seemed to be asking for they've managed to do it again. I agree the animation was superb and I would say that it may have been the funniest installment yet. It wasn't perfect though and I was a little disappointed by the smaller roles of some toys. Would need to re-watch to decide where it falls in comparison to the other films in the series, but it certainly sits comfortably alongside them as among Pixars best. 9/10

Brightburn: 4 stars out of 5.

Only some minor bits that had me questioning some of their choices.

A twist on the Superman story. It was like “What if he is pure evil?”

Well recommended.

Didn't think much of Toy Story 4 tbh, never felt like anything that couldn't have been told in one of their 30 minute shorts and wouldn't be surprised if kids end up being bored watching it, they certainly seemed it in the screen I was in.

Think the main issue I had with it was how side-lined every character (besides Woody) was. I get it was 'his story' but every film has kind of been his story but the other toys have still had stuff to do, even Forky is brushed aside once they reach the antique shop.

I dunno, I felt like they made Bo's story pretty clear without having to go into much detail. She was given away nine years ago in the opening scene, and then spent two years trapped in the antique store with Gabby and the Bensons, which she explained to Woody when they returned, and then she broke out and spent the next seven years as a lost toy, hitting up playgrounds for kids to play with them with the other toys.. They didn't explicitly state why she changed her attitude, but the brief backstory and the new look with the bandages paint a clear enough picture if you ask me. She had to change to survive.

I will admit, though, they have Flanderized Buzz quite a bit. He used to be a bit out of touch and naive about the gang's customs, but he's kind of an idiot in this one. I don't believe the guy who once truly thought he was the real Buzz Lightyear wouldn't know what a conscience is.

Good, but dated. But I think it was better than RD.

What was new/fresh at the time have become well worn tropes now - and after a while I just wish the actual plot would move along rather than another stretched out scene of dialogue.

But similarly to RD it's not got a very interesting story (or characters). It feels like a film made for it's makers to do interesting things, rather than an audience. But they've all been dated/surpased now - I expect that's in part because of this films influence. But there's distinct between influential and good - you can be one without being the other. Great films will be both, this only feels like the former.

Some interesting long shots were good - and are still impressive today (e.g. there's one were Butch goes from his car to the his apartment that's about a minute long)...

But it doesn't add up to anything. Good scenes exist in isolation. It never coheres into a full product.

Also the detore into graphic gay BSDM scenes was unexpected and jarring.

Also Uma Thurman is really good at doing the twist! :shock:

There's also this weird uncurrent of...nastiness?...in it (like the other Tarantino films i've seen). It's feels like its masked by joke or a flippant pop culture reference - but it's there underneath.

So yeah fine. Hard to see why anyone would want to watch again and again or put it high on many lists.

You're right. She changed out of necessity. Personally I'd have sold my left arm to see her transition play out onscreen but maybe there wasn't enough time to do that.

Yes the Buzz parts were annoying. Glad he got any screen time at all but he has a conscience, without needing to rely on his buttons. The stuff he says to Woody in TS2 ("somewhere in that bag of stuffing is a toy who once told me that life is only worth living if you're being loved by a kid") shows that he has a moral compass.

Chucky Childs Play 7/10 decent especially when compared to the recent straight to DVD sequels

Brightburn - 6/10 - annoying little alien kid

Toy Story 4 8/10- Weakest in the series, still think Toy Story 2 is the best.

Disappointed by the lack of interaction between Buzz and Woody. It's always been my favourite part of the films, for which my desire has never been fully satisfied.

Best gag is in the trailer

Though I was laughing throughout, particularly the final set up, where the anticipation of when Key and Peele were going to jump was brilliantly done.

Gabby and the dummies were a good adversary.

Also slightly disappointed by lack of Rex and Slinky. screen time.

Corazon de Leon

Mortal Engines - 3/10. There's a good film in here but it's marred by some strawberry floating terrible dialogue and awful writing. A real shame because it looks fantastic.

Bumblebee - 8/10. Much, much better than I expected it to be. Good performances from the human actors, even John Cena. Really taps into the '80s nostalgia genre that seems to be kicking into high gear recently, while also being a really fun film. Easily the best Transformers movie. Loved The Touch being used at one point too.

I really enjoyed Mortal Engines. You're not wrong in saying the script was bad but the spectacle of it more than made up for it for me.

When harry met sally. Never seen it in my life, but watched it the other day on netflix. Not a bad film and meg ryan was absolutely stunning wasn’t she?
