Backstory: One Direction fangirl writes a fanfic about her character falling in love with a character inspired by Harry Styles. Turned into a published book series and then a movie.

Verdict: This is my first time coming across it so did not know the plot twist going in. Interesting enough plot twist. Hero Fiennes Tiffins, who acts as Hardin (the Harry Styles standin) delivers a solid performance given the material he had to work with. The lead character makes some very questionable choices that make it difficult to feel sorry for her at moments the movie wanted me to. That said, it's good at being a sexual awakening movie, accurately portraying the experience of many people as they start college and explore their sexuality. I'm not sure if I'll read the sequels but this movie is a good enough way to spend a night.

What a thoroughly disappointing film. It looks lovely but a total lack of a sense of tension or any scary moments at all just left me feeling empty when watching this. It's above all else just very boring. A real shame as Hereditary was terrific and it seems this director was riding on the wave of his inflated popularity in getting this commissioned.

Edit: there is one really great bit where these old banana splits have to kill themselves by jumping off a cliff onto a rock. Very gory.

Spider-Man: Far From Home 8/10.
Charming characterisation, inventive and exciting action. Stay until the very end, though!

Spider-Man FFH - 8/10; poignant and very funny. Loved Gyllenhaal's Mysterio.
Hellraiser - 6/10.
Hellraiser II: Hellbound - 5/10.
High Noon [1952] - 6/10.

Last film I watched was Revenge of the Sith with the kids on the weekend. :dread:

I'd forgotten just how bad this is, truly an awful movie. Nothing about it works, the story and dialogue are worse than ever, the CGI seems somehow to look worse and sticks out in a more jarring way than it ever has, the direction and cinematography is just frighteningly bad at times ... it's just BAD all round and is easily the worst Star Wars movie IMO.

It was by far the best of the prequels, and although the clunkiness was still present thanks to Lucas' writing/directing, there were some great moments.

Mission Impossible Fallout 3/10

Absolute rubbish. It's only getting 3 because some of the stunts were really good. Had to have possibly the most obvious villain twist of all time too. I mean, it was obvious from the very first moment, and it was presented as shocking :lol:

And does every one of these films have to have a major plot point hinge on the strawberry floating pretend face thing?

I also found Fallout to be dreadful, it was also way too long.

It's a pretty uneven franchise anyways...

Great moments for the memes but not actual, great moments in film.

Boy Erased. 9/10.
Very honest portrayal of what gay conversion camps are like and how much pain they've caused. Very moving performances, especially by the mother as we could see her cognitive dissonance between wanting to do right by her child and wanting to live the life she believed in. Very good movie but will not watch again because the subject matter is very heavy.

Stuber 5/10 - daft comedy with Dave Bautista and Kumail Nanjiani, LA Cop on the trail of his partners killer has laser eye surgery the day of potentially catching him so enlists an Uber Driver to take him round. I laughed probably more than I should have, some great one liners here and there :slol:

The Matrix [20th Anniversary Edition] - 7/10; great seeing it on the big screen for the first time, decent transfer and Carrie Ann Moss in her black PVC number :wub:

Funny how this was light years ahead of its rivals at the time for special effects and it looks a bit ropey in places now [how times change]; shame the sequels and the game were tosh too.

Spider-Man:Far From Home - 7/10. I was concerned when they said Mysterio would be the villain. I personally think he's great but is look is kinda goofy and I was worried he might not translate well to live action films. The story and action were enjoyable. It loses a mark because, to me, Spider-Man feels like a support character to Iron Man rather than a stand alone character. I get that Mysterio and Vulture are both Spidey villains but in the MCU it feels more like they are people who should be Iron Man villains and Spidey just happens to stumble across them. I know a lot of people like the Tony/Peter connection but I'm not a fan.

Upgrade - 8

Well that was great. I see why people call it the best Venom film from last year.

John Wick 3 - V. good

All style and no substance, which is exactly what I was looking for going in. Keanu is as wooden as ever, but there's some ruddy good fight scenes in there. Plot continues to be dumb as gooseberry fool, but everyone gave a good performance regardless. My favourite bit was when the Iron Chef host negotiated a contract while Kyary Pamyu Pamyu played in the background. That or the line from the Matrix.

All in all, bloody good fun. Markedly better than the second one, and likely my favourite so far. :toot:

MIB Internation 5/10- An MIB hive movie with Tessa Thompson and Chris Hemsworth had the makings to be a great movie. This was average at best, had a few laughs but the plot was uninspired and poorly executed.

Spiderman: Far from Home 8/10- Better than standard Marvel fair, felt everything up to the final battle was very good. The finale being a bit meh.

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them: The Crimes of oh strawberry float me this is a long strawberry floating title. 5/10

Mostly meh, I was bored through most of it.

I really have no idea how this got such good reviews on release - I found it to be such a cheesy film. If this hadn't had the cast it did (and I thought Bradley Cooper and Gaga and the cast as a whole actually were very good) and I had seen it on Movies24 or something it really wouldn't have been out of place.

Diverting enough but ultimately just not that interesting.

As it is, after a really promising opening half hour it just became really dull and predictable.

Stan & Ollie. A lovely look at the classic duo. I found it to be uplifting in parts and yet it's a very bittersweet tale. Tears in my eyes at the end :oops:
