What We Did In The Shadows - 8/10; went into this completely blind just a recommendation from a friend.

Mock documentary following 4 vampires in New Zealand and what they get up to in modern life.

Taika Watiti is fantastic, eager to see JoJo Rabbit now.

I thought that Vampire film was OK, quite boring at times.

There is also a TV series of WWDITS, it was on iPlayer but I don’t know if it’s still there. It’s a similar set up, but is set in America. It has Matt Berry though so it's an instant win.

I also think Adam Driver is one of the best things about the new films, but I hadn't realised that this means I agree with Taf !

I think we should relaunch the full TLJ debate once Jenuall has seen it.

The Lion King - 3/10

I was dragged along to this and it was exactly what I expected: an uninspired, boring cash in that felt more like a tech demo.

The first half was probably better, largely because the voice acting was so poor for the second half-Donald Glover and Beyoncé had no chemistry at all and neither felt right in the part. I don't think the duet on Can You Feel The Love worked at all either. Scar lacked menace and had nowhere near the impact of Jeremy Irons' Scar as a villain.

Not many positives but the CGI really was incredible at times and John Oliver as Zazu, Billy Eichner as Timeon and Seth Rogan as Pumbaa were all well cast with some nice comedic moments.

Annihilation - Alien/10

Well that was strawberry floating bizarre. Genuinely don't know what to make of that, it was a truly alien experience, felt like deep sci-fi, mixed with lovecraft mixed with Stalker. Good performances, good effects, cool concept, but totally weird, I dont even know what the point it of it was

It really annoys me how much better the book Annihilation is to the film. Wasted potential.

Spider-Man Into The Spiderverse - 9/10.

Saw a couple of films yesterday that I'd been wanting to see; lo and behold they were both on television in succession
First one was Edge of Tomorrow, which I found to be hugely refreshing and probably one of the smartest and generally best summer sci fi blockbusters I've seen since Blade Runner 2049 and Infinity War. How doth tom cruise remain so young

The second was Drunken Master II; I'm not sure if I enjoyed it quite as much as the first Drunken Master as it didnt flow quite as well for me, but it was good fun and showcased a lot of evolution choreography and technique wise from Jackie Chan

Kylo is probably the only consistently good part of them

that being said I think TLJ is a perfectly decent film in general

Edge of Tomorrow is brilliant, agreed!

You need to pick a side in the forthcoming TLJ wars. It's do or die, hysterically one way or the other, there is no middle ground to be had. Choose wisely.
