Just got back from watching IT Chapter 2, not quite as good as the first but enjoyed it all the same. More comedy than horror though, and I strawberry floating loved The Thing (82) nod in it.

8 they all float down here out of 10 they all float down here.

Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid - 8/10

It’s a good movie but my god the chase sequence went on. And on. And on. Made me want to go back to Red Dead Redemption 2.

Green Book 7/10

I really enjoyed it, with a great performance from both leads.

Terminator 2 special edition 9/10

The proper cut is a solid 10, and I had no idea this cut existed until we were watching it last night and something I'd not seen happend. Apart from the t-1000 having glitches near the end due to being frozen and broken, id say every new bit detracts from the film rather than adds to it. A lot of it is so corny (the Arnie smile :fp: ) it has terminator 3 vibes which makes me wonder if that film could have been given a better tone by just cutting some scenes shorter.

A Quiet Place - 7/10

This was a good movie but with massive problems once you start thinking about it.

Nobody in the world ever thought to try blasting high pitched sounds at the creatures with super sensitive hearing?

“Let’s build a soundproof room for my wife to give birth in and not just go near the waterfall that drowns out the sound”

I thought the same, detracted from the movie somewhat.

Suicide Squad - as bad as I remember. Shamefully bad. Worst joker (so far), terrible effects at times and cgi enemies to keep the rating down. As close to unwatchable as a super hero film can get.

Wish my image sig would work

Godzilla 1998

I had fond memories of seeing this in the cinema back in the day but it's just strawberry floating dire. Straight up nonsense.

It's almost the epitome of a 90s era blockbuster. Complete nonsense, but bizarrely watchable.

Today I got through:

Aladdin (2019) - 7/10. Enjoyed some of the changes, really didn't enjoy others. Trying not to compare it to the original is difficult, as it's clearly vastly inferior, but I liked this and would watch it again.

How To Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World - 7/10. I don't really know about this. It was definitely not a bad film, but I just...didn't enjoy it as much as I did the first two. Maybe not enough Gerry Butler? :shifty:

EDIT:

John Wick 3: Parabellum - 8.5/10. I don't believe that anyone comes into these movies looking for a story, they're as close to pure action as I think you can get in cinema. Seeing the career renaissance of Mark Dacascos makes me happy. Seeing Jerome Flynn shooting a dog covered in body armour...a little disturbing.

With that said I do think the world building in this series has been really overlooked - they're almost dark urban fantasy movies - all neon-lit alleyways, darkened rooms, rituals and secret societies that are left shrouded in enough mystery to pique the viewer's interest. Some of the casting in the series is strawberry floating brilliant as well - Michael Nyqvist(RIP), Willem Defriend, Anjelica Huston, Lance Reddick, John Leguiamo, Common, Laurence Fishburne. All of them have been great throughout the series.

Nevertheless, the first one is a genuine 10/10 movie. The second and third, still great but slightly less than the original.

Looks like John Wick 4 is Neo and Morpheus vs. the secret assassin society. It'd be a strawberry floating travesty if Carrie-Anne Moss isn't cast in some capacity here...

The Predator - 3/10

What a strawberry floating mess this was. Why is it so hard to get Predator right?

Yeah, we watched this too after imbibing the excellent prequel series. I'd never seen the film before and had zero emotional investment so instead of the life changing fantasy adventure many people saw on its release I saw a badly paced but still impressive demonstration of puppetry. It really is super slow and none of the characters get any development at all.

Still, the new series is strawberry floating great. Highly recommended.

Detective Pikachu. 7/10.

I watched it last night and it was decent. Thought the acting was a bit wooden in places from a number of the cast (and a seriously under utilised Bill Nighy) but it didn't drag whatsoever...it positively flew by, especially when compared to the last Pokemon film I endured (and even as a kid and a Pokemon fan at the time, the tedious cartoon movie in 1999 really was an endurance at the cinema).

Did I enjoy it as much as the last videogame adaptation I saw (Tomb Raider)? No. But I realise I'm not the target market any more obviously, and a lot of the fan service was always going to be lost on me (honestly, it's been 20 years, I've forgotten almost everything) but if even I can enjoy it as a lapsed fan then I'm sure the Pokemon faithful will have a blast with this. As videogame movies go, this is quite comfortably in the Top 3. Which isn't saying much I know...prior to Tomb Raider I also sat through Assassin's Creed, and I wouldn't wish that on anyone.

The only reason I'm still alive is that I'm lucky enough I didnt actually have to properly watch them. Just experience them from an adjacent room.

In 2 there is a bit where a man and a lady are having a meal (pretty sure its in a restaurant to) and he says "I think we should make a list of the pros and cons of sleeping together".
