Wayne's World - 9/10

Still love it after all these years (it, and the sequel were viewed constantly by my teen self during the summer of '95), schwing!

Had to get my blu ray copy from Amazon Germany though as while it's been released both there and in Italy, it's not available here for some reason.

Am I imagining it, but I'm sure there was a Bill and Ted Vs Wanted World thread/poll before on here.

The Godfather- 9.5/10

I’ve never watched the Godfather movies and figured it was time to fix that. An awesome movie, I think I had seen most of the movie thanks to the references made elsewhere but there was still a lot there I had never seen or heard of before.

The Godfather Part 2 - 9/10

I enjoyed this less than the first movie, but it’s still great. The De Niro bits appealed to me far more than Pacino, it’s a shame there wasn’t a lot more 1920s story.

Upgrade - 7/10

Pretty good low-budget sci-fi cyberpunk-lite thriller. Budget Tom Hardy was great but everyone else in the film is completely one-dimensional and throwaway. Some nice visuals and action scenes (and unexpected gore), and a pretty decent ending.

Joker - 7/10

Excellent central performance. Well filmed and it's very captivating thanks to that performance. He genuinely looks in pain when laughing.

My issues with it are very little in the way of violence or action. CGI blood used a few times and it looks terrible.

The marketing has been shocking. It's not a dangerous film, it's not clockwork orange or anything like that. It's a character study of one man with mental health problems who is battered by the world and snaps.

It's worth a watch but it's not something I'll rush out to buy as it's a great bit of cinema because of and only because of one performance. The rest is ok at best.

Joker 9/10

I thought it was fantastic. Phoenix was superb.

12 Angry Men - 10/10

I’ve always heard this was great but assumed I wouldn’t like it. Black and white, old and just some blokes talking/arguing. Sounds meh.

But I was wrong. Very wrong! It’s a fantastic movie, well worth watching.

And it’s interesting to see the themes of “poor people are scum” and “the youth of today are terrible” were hot topics 60 years ago. :lol:

Hope you didn't contribute to its early elimination in the recent movie eliminator.

Wow. Absolutely sensational on every department and I enjoyed it thoroughly. Personally, I think it is rare to see genuine a really good film at the big screen. This is the one of them and it’s very captivating to watch it as well. As for Joaquin Phoenix, what can I say and he’s done incredibly fantastic. Give him an Oscar award easily.

Go and watch it.

It sounds like we had exactly the same experience with that movie and pre-assumptions.

It’s utterly enthralling from start to finish.

Yep, I’ll piss around on my phone a lot when watching TV/movies, but I didn’t even think of my phone while watching this.

Joker.

What a strawberry floating performance that was by Joaquin Phoenix. I would never imagine that there would be a film about a man who would become the Joker as a figure that you would feel sympathy for.

The sheer amount of abuse he get, emotionally, physically and mentally, and the sad glimpse of his imaginations of wanting to be loved and admired shows that he is very much human only to be let down by the society ruled by the rich.

This film is the equivalent of running at a brick wall, in a very slowly and when you finally reach the wall the impact comes fast and as efficient as a sledgehammer hitting your skull. The other film that did this efficiently is Midsommar.

Midsommar and Joker is two of the best movies I’ve seen this year.

Joaquin Phoenix should get an Oscar nod for his performance and portrayal of the Joker.

A masterpiece. 10/10

Birdman 9/10
Not normally a film I'd watch, but I thoroughly enjoyed it and Michael Keaton was superb.

Snoopy Movie 8/10
An artistically beautiful looking film, the really caputure the world of the peanut gang. The Snoopy bits are my favs.

Agreed on everything what you said.

I want to see it again.

Bridge of Spies - 7/10 - slow going at times, but was good enough to keep my attention.

Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy (2005) - 6/10 - i'm not familiar with the original Douglas Adams material, but it was a fun adventure nethertheless.

X-Men: Dark Phoenix - 7/10 - Way better than i was expecting.

Joker - 10/10.
mARK HAMill will always be the definitive version of the Joker for me, but Phoenix does a great job at portraying a version of Joker's origins. By the last twenty minutes, he became so eerily real and believable as the Joker that it became disturbing; this movie gets very disturbing in parts. Thus, it's not the kind of movie I can stomach a second watching of it, but that's not the fault of the filmmakers. It set out exactly what it's supposed to do. It's art.
