I actually thought Salvation was alright, certainly better than T3.

I'd quite like another post apocalyptic Terminator film.

It's the best of the post-T2 sequels for sure and deserves credit for at least trying something different. Everything else has just been attempting to recapture the magic of T2 and failing miserably.

T3 was mostly gooseberry fool, but had a great ending.

Salvation was mostly meh.

Genysisisis was ghastly.

Dark Fate feels about half an hour too long but it's a competent action movie and I really liked Linda Hamilton in it. 7/10

Just back from seeing Terminator - Dark Fate - 8/10

So much better than the trailers. Very strong cast with Arnie stealing every scene. The music when it kicks in is glorious and there is a bit near the very start that shows the movie isn't messing about, it's brutal and brilliant.

Very fast paced (Not Fury Road fast) but still a chase movie with a lot of action.

Three female leads are brilliant and the action is very well filmed. It's not perfect but it doesn't need to be. It's as close to Terminator as you'll get without James Cameron directing.

Hope they make a sequel.

Wish my image sig would work

Terminator dark fate 7.5/10

Went with mates even though I had no interest in seeing this. So had very low expectations. The trailers looked awful and every single YouTube video had it play endlessly to the point where I started to resent it.

Anyway it was competently put together pretty entertaining and fairly enjoyable.

It was also unnecessary. It didn’t do anything or talk any story that hasn’t already been done. It borrowed ideas and pieces from each of the sequels so seemed to lack originality.

Nice Easter egg with the music at the BBQ though!

The effects improved by the end but some early scenes had a bit Ropey CGI.

Sounds good for the new Terminator film. I'll be seeing it on Tuesday evening after work. :)

I actually really liked T3, there were a couple of iffy bits sure, but the action was great and the ending was a fantastic twist.

Salvation had a lot of potential, and while it ultimately didn't deliver, the idea of a post apocalypse Terminator movie was sound and the potential was there for some fantastic follow ups which would have covered the rest of the war.

Genysis was a major step backwards as far as i was concerned, it just retread old ground and was ultimately pointless.

I fear the same will be the case with Dark Fate, but until i see it, i will reserve judgement.

T3 (see also, Alien3) is ludicrously underrated. Superb ending too.

The King of Comedy - 7/10

I really enjoyed this. Had no idea it existed and only heard about it after hearing how Joker owes a lot to it. De Niro is fantastic too, and i see why he got the role he has in joker because of this.

It's a great idea for a film too, with some great cringe inducing scenes.

Serenity (2005) 8/10

Playing the Outer Worlds got me hankering for some misbehaviour so I fired this old gem up. And...it's aged really, really well.

Firefly was great at the time of its airing, and was of course cancelled completely arbitrarily as marketing couldn't box it up neatly, but the episodes themselves are...well, they're not all that good any more. The monster-of-the-week setup is peak 90s TV that sits poorly alongside more recent trends towards continuous narratives, and the budget constraints are so obvious as to be distracting. The writing of the characters and world is excellent, but the plots of each show range from good (Objects in Space, The Message) to rubbish (Heart of Gold, Shindig).

The film remains excellent however. There's some really, really interesting concepts dealt with (some of which haven't aged well, such as the overarching message of the piece being "It doesn't matter what you believe as long as you believe in something." yikes) and the characters were never better drawn than they were here. The visuals are also striking, even if some of the CGI is dodgy, and the final space battle is just spectacular.

The constant oldy worldy Whedon-talk becomes grating at some points, and it's clearly a bunch of TV actors pretending to be moviestars (Summer Glau is especially out of her depth) but it's got enough charm and personality to remain excellent.

I don't think she gets roles based entirely on her acting ability. :shifty:

Agreed!

In fact I had this exact discussion with someone recently (a massive Firefly fan) about how I much prefer Serenity now and given the choice I would much rather watch the film than go back to the series. He did not take it well!

I've been rewatching Buffy recently as well and that has aged in an equally wonky way - some of it is still fantastic and some of it is way worse than I remembered! Also looking back now I can't believe I didn't spot just how much, in terms of style of character and mannerisms, Xander is just a massive rip-off of Chandler from Friends! Could he be any more derivative!?

Wait, what?

Ad's review. He said the movie he just watched was excellent, then gave it 7/10.

I was making a joke. You know, about Edge. And scores. And stuff.

Toy Story 4 - 9/10

This was really well done to be fair. 3 finished the trilogy perfectly, so it's debatable whether this was necessary but there's no denying the overall quality. The animation is incredible, the voice acting is as good as ever and it some great comedic moments especially involving some of the new characters (loved Bunny and Ducky's exaggerated plans  ).

I see they've said this is the last one so I look forward to 5 at some point in the next decade.
