Yeah whilst I didn't think we needed a fourth Toy Story I still enjoyed it a lot.

To be fair if they keep the current schedule of returning to the franchise every 10 years then I don't mind that, it's not like they're forcing it on us every year

Yeah, considering they're 4 from 4 it's hard to criticise them too much.

They'll probably do something with the franchise on Disney+ at some point I imagine.

Shaun the Sheep: Farmageddon - 8/10

Cute, funny and plenty of classic sci-fi movie references for adults.

Good to know it's worth watching though, will be taking the kids to see that one soon I suspect.

Terminator dark fate.7/10 - I actually enjoyed it. Felt like a proper terminator film and successfully wipes the other sequels from existence.

Toy Story 4 - 7/10

Competent but totally superfluous sequel. Some good moments and I enjoyed it, but the ending of TS3 was utterly perfect and is where they should have left it. Not really got much to add. It exists and it's not shite.

Little Monsters - 8/10

Funniest Zombie movie I've seen since Shaun of the Dead. Man-child uncle has to protect his 4/5 year old nephew and his class from a zombie outbreak at a petting zoo with the help of the class teacher (Lupita N'goyo). Some hilarious moments and watching Lupita trying to convince the children it's all a game while impaling a Zombie on a giant gardening Fork is great fun. Well worth watching and much better than I expected it to be. Has some genuinely touching moments as well.

Just seen it's not actually out in the cinema here until November, but it's "out there" if you know where to look. :shifty:

What We Left Behind.

The Star Trek: Deep Space 9 documentary film.

I bought this a while ago and just got round to watching it and it was bloody fantastic  . A pretty much perfect look back at a great show and a wonderful way to spend a couple of hours deep in nostalgia. If you had any contact at all with DS9 you should give this a watch as it's heartfelt and shows just why there's a audience for a retrospective of a 25 year old show.

10/10
Wonderful  .

Terminator: Dark Fate - 7/10

It's a good film and I enjoyed it. It's nice to have a decent sequel from T2, but I may be one of the minority people who felt that I preferred some bits from T3. :fp:

Charlies Angels (2000) - 5/10

Haven't seen this one in many, many years, and after viewing it again, it really is quite the bizarre film.

It pelts along at a cracking pace, yet is often completely devoid of even the most basic logic (at the start, they catch a bad guy by opening the door of an airliner and throwing him out, yet none of the other people on the plane appear to have been harmed despite the fact it would have decompressed and probably crashed as a result). It also belongs to that special club of post-Matrix films (see also, Swordfish, and Mission Impossible 2), in which wirework for fight scenes, and bullet time style effects are used by the bucketload.

It's certainly a curious watch anyhow, and it gains a point for featuring Bill Murray and Crispin Glover.

Charlies Angels: Full Throttle - 5/10

Features Matt Leblanc, who plays Joey Tribbiani, who plays Lucy Liu's actor boyfriend.

Strange stuff once again, but ultimately dumb fun. It gains a point thanks to Carrie Fisher, Crispin Glover, and Cameron Diaz getting all soapy, but loses one due to Shia Lebouf and a truly dreadful BMX bit.

Halloween (2018) - 7/10

Was pretty good, but the ending was a bit...meh.

Us

Really really enjoyed it until the blackboard monologue that over-explained the background and grounded it in reality, creating roughly eleventy billion unresolved plot strands and questions that simply leaving the background vague would have solved. Shame really because the preceding 90 minutes were a masterclass, but in the end it just creates a thousand 'Wait so why did this happen?' questions that end up completely overshadowing any thematic or symbolic aspects of the movie.

They even undo their own exposition-dump by saying, in the same breath, that the clone-lair was 'abandoned for generations' which means that the two kids were made, not by cloning, but presumably because Peele thinks that all parents can only produce one type of girl and one type of boy. And how did she know who to bang given that she was an 'original'? And how did the tethered know where to find their counterparts? And why did....

Know what Jordan, 'there's spooky dopplegangers in my house' is fine. Just stop there.

I liked Us but it was nowhere close to as good as Get Out.

Peele seems to like the weird technology or explanations being behind things - in Get Out they were swapping brains, in Us it is a parallel society underground.

You guessed the twist before she even went into the hall of mirrors? That is impressive.

I did. I also managed to form the conceptual model of exaggerating certain measurable scales in order to provide humorous emphasis.

I can't actually remember how the film starts but it starts in a flashback right?

Like I say it was good, and Nyongo was excellent, but it collapses under the weight of its own devices towards the end.

Yea, I mean I guess with Get Out, it was a little less galling because it was a smaller scale story with much fewer participants. Like, I didn’t need to know exactly how you advertise that you can buy a black mans body to take over and exploit (Reddit, probs), and the film didn’t go into it. There is a certain amount of background mystery that the audience will grant you. But fill in too much backstory and people will ask questions about the implications and Us just wasn’t coherent enough to address them.

It wanted to be all symbolism and themes but dumped too much exposition (rather flippantly too, the ‘tethered’ could have just said ‘we don’t know where we came from’ and I don’t think the story would suffer) to get away with not answering the obvious plot threads it generates.
