Have you read the book Taf? I bet you'd hate it

...as nostalgia bait I actually enjoyed the book. I'm more cynical towards the film, but I got something out of it by just enjoying seeing some unlikely crossovers and switching off from the rest.

EDIT: I was going to bring up it being similar to Big Bang Theory :lol:

It's at least better in that it doesn't treat simply recognising the references as a point of ridicule at least

I read chapters of the book that I've seen online and the cringe was so, so bad. It's the gamer 50 Shades.

EDIT: Got halfway in and I'm done. It's literally The Big Bang Theory with a budget. Also, everything inside the Oasis looks strawberry floating hideous. Not just uncanny valley (though that's present), the art design is strawberry floating gross and one of the villains is voiced by that Deadpool actor who got revealed as a rapist so, yeah, I'm done.

The book isn't good but an easy read and enjoyable for the most part. I couldn't even get through watching more than 15 minutes of the film.

His follow up book is strawberry floating dreadful.

The book of Ready Player One is absolutely dreadful, it's like reading an eighties Argos catalogue but with a worse plot and characterisation.

Just got back from the cinema after seeing The Good Liar.

Really good and even though the plot twist was obvious even to me I still enjoyed it. The story is of a grifter trying to get one last big score out of Helen Mirren's character and how he goes about the con.
Helen Mirren and Ian McKellen are great as always and should be brought back for more.

All I can remember about Ready Player One is the twirly bit in VR and that they lived in a shithole.
I think the story was someone needed to do something for someone and they managed it in the end and it was all a bit gooseberry fool.

Midway. 8/10. Excellent, really enjoyed it, well done all round.

Hotel Mumbai - 6

A fairly by the numbers portrayal of an event like this, however it did seem to revel in the drama in a way that made me feel a bit uneasy.

The Terminator - 8

The future war stuff in this is fantastic. Not sure whether I prefer it to T2 or not. The ending feels a bit hokey by today’s standards.

Bumblebee - 6/10

Largely forgettable stuff though the action was decent.

It was also ten times better than the really quite dreadful Transformers: Last Knight.

Aquaman - 0/10

We made it 16 minutes in to this film before declaring it absolute gooseberry fool and turning it off. Appalling effects and it looks like a syfy film with a budget. How the DC films are still a thing when you have the level of quality most marvel films achieve, is astounding.

Dr. Sleep - 9/10; thought this was fantastic. I enjoyed this more than the, The Shining. Cast was great, I’ve never read any of the books so don’t know if there is any further material or spin offs but I’d love to see more. I expect the next King adaptation to be pants going of my recent history; IT 2 [Great], Pet Sematary [Garbage], Dr Sleep [Great].

Terminator: Dark Fate - 8/10; thought this was going to be a train wreck but thoroughly enjoyed it. A mix of parts from the other Terminators with Linda Hamilton thrown into the mix. Some of Carl’s one liners had the cinema howling, I kind of want to see another after this. Didn’t like the CGI Sarah and John Connor scene, for being front runners in the CGI field from T2 onwards this wasn’t that good and looked like a Gears of War cutscene. Liked the nods to the other films.

Still not seen the new Terminator myself but apparently it is on course to do even worse than Genisys did at the box office. :dread:

Doctor Sleep was probably my favourite film of the year but The Shining is a masterpiece.

I watched it last night (not for the first time, obviously) and can confirm it is still brilliant.

Really looking forward to catching Dr Sleep, hopefully this week.

Dr Sleep is brilliant but it’s a bit soon to be calling it better than The Shining which is undoubtedly an all time classic and one of the best films ever made by one of the best directors ever starring possibly the best actor ever.

I don’t think it’s in the same league as The Shining but that doesn’t mean it’s not fantastic and well worth seeing. It sadly seems to be struggling at the Box Office which is a shame, though I don’t really hunk it matters that much. It’ll certainly gain traction when people can see it at home, I’m very keen to see it again.
