Last film you watched and your rating

It's probably the best CGI I've ever seen on film. I felt incredibly sorry for the animation team watching that film, imagine if that quality of work had been used for something original and groundbreaking? Instead of strawberry floating Timon and Pumbaa.

And even after that hard work the VFX studio still had to shut down due to not making any profit from it.

Wow really? That's absolutely awful.

Think there are 3 different parts of it which make me cry (at least as much as a film can make me cry) and for all of them the music is the trigger.

Yeah it does, but the melody from the chorus of it plays a few times during RotK. The bit where Gandalf talks to Pippin about death, Sam's 'I can't carry it for you Mr Frodo' speech and Frodo getting on the ship at the Grey Havens.

Funnily enough those are the bits that hit me right in feels.

Avengers: End Game

Ready Player One - 4

Looks nice and The Shining bit is brilliant, but it’s barely watchable because the tone of the sycophantic pop culture worship is vomit inducing.

Hellboy - 5

It’s fine but the cinema going public has clearly given Hellboy films a gigantic meh, so not sure why they felt the need to bring it back for this.

IT Chapter 2.
Some bits really capture the feel but too long and too many bits don't work. I get why some things are changed from the novel but other things they change seem to be for the worst. The really nailed the terror of Pennywise as the clown with his ballons so really should have focused on having him in it as much as possible. 6/10

Rise of Skywalker.
I understand thie issues with this but on first viewing I reasonably enjoyed this despite them. I never felt bored like in TLJ. 7/10

The Prodigy
Not having any real investment/history with this film its arguably the best film of the 3. 7/10

Rise of Skywalker- 4/10

As a fan of Last Jedi, I wasn't predisposed to like this but even then it wasn't good. They probably should had Leia die off-screen between films, the stilted repurposed footage of Carrie Fisher was painful to watch. It was Milhouse in The Radioactive Man movie quality.

Jojo Rabbit- 6/10

Ehhh. I liked it but it should have been sharper and funnier than it was. Scarlett Johansson was fantastic in it though.

Glass - 6

Never really got going, the revelation was very meh and I feel like if I saw those videos at the end I just wouldn’t care or assume they were faked.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker - 5/10

Just an incredibly safe, predictable conclusion to the trilogy/saga. Seemed more focused on paying fan service to all the old stars, particularly Carrie Fisher, than it was on actually being a particularly good film. It wasn't without merit and had some good moments and performances, but overall it was a disappointment as there's never really any sense of jeopardy.

Miss Peregrine 9/10
Really enjoyable dark fantasy, feels like a mix of Harry Potter and X-Men. The cast was great with some great actors.

The Predator 4/10
A few fun moments aside it's a a boring mess, with crap characters and too much purile humour.

Dracula Untold 6/10
Rather fun spin on the Dracula tale, Luke Evans was great and the action was nice also was fairly short so it didin't outstay it welcome.

Little Women - it's just perfect.

John Wick 3 - 7/10

Diminishing returns on these films, this one was perfectly fine but some of the fight scenes went on for far too long. Was also a bit weird that the main antagonists of the film weren't really John's enemies, they were more the Continental's.

I was bored in the second iteration, I'm passing in the third.

Hellboy (2019) - 3/10

Boy am I glad I didn't go to see this at the cinema! It's just a bad film with very little to praise and simply pales in comparison to the previous Hellboy films. The storyline, writing, casting, special effects, pretty much everything leaves a lot to be desired. Hopefully the clearly setup sequel doesn't happen and they give the franchise back to Del Toro!

Jojo Rabbit - 5*

Went to see this last night, thought it was brilliant. The whole film being from the perspective of a 10 year old is done very well, it affords it with a believable simplicity and lets the humour come out without feeling edgy or forced. That said it was as moving as it was comedic with some genuinely affecting scenes. Imaginary Hitler himself was much less used than the trailers had me believe, which worked in the film's favour, as in doing so those parts remained funny when they did come up, as well as showing Jojo's changing mindset over the story.

LotR: The Fellowship of the Ring

9/10

I am very pleased I didn't pay money to see Once Upon A Time in Hollywood. Utter bollocks, even by post-Kill Bill Tarantino's standards. A light handful of decent scenes, paced horribly for 2 hours, then an utterly bizarre final 40 minutes that may as well have been another film. Dreadful, and I'd be happy to never rewatch any of his films ever again, even the good ones. 1.

Talking of Jojo Rabbit, did you see Robbie Collin's review for the BBC? It...er.. gets a bit interesting from the 9min mark. A lot of people are talking about it:
