Beastie Boys Story 7/10 - Wasn't too keen on the way they presented it, but I had a good time hearing the remaining two Beastie Boys tell their story.

The Man Without A Past 9/10 - Peak Kaurismaki.

Princess Mononoke - 7/10

Beautiful looking movie. Felt it was a bit too long though.

The Dark Knight - 9/10

I still love this film. The set pieces are great in it. That's a brilliantly unhinged Joker as well. I'm going to make this pencil...disappear.

It's a weird film in that I can't disagree with that score but also struggle to think of anything bad about it.

It's the very definition of "meh"

Old Boy remake.

It was pretty boring pointless remake of the original.

5/10

Thunderball - 7/10

Better than last week's film, must have been quite the task to do that much underwater filming too.

The villain was definitely No.2 from Austin Powers though, and i was disappointed the frickin sharks didn't have frickin laser beams attached to their heads.

Training Day - 7.5/10

After almost 20 years, I finally got around to watching this. It's not a great movie but is elevated by a fantastic Denzel Washington performance. And almost ruined by a terrible Dr Dre performance

Midway (the latest one) 4/10

The absolute state of some of the effects in this. Some dreadful acting too which had me constantly aware I was watching people acting rather than getting engrossed. Dennis Quaide was dreadful too, overacting to the extreme.

Saying that, there were some good bits.

Three Billboards Outside Ebbing Missouri - ***

I want to like this more, because I think there's a lot about this which is really good, but there's a big plot point that I feel really holds this back. Dixon's whole arc felt totally out of place, a near instantaneous turn around of character. Not that I don't think he as a character had room to redeem himself, but the pace at which it happens was so fast, within a day his motivations have done a compete 180°. He goes from being a parody of an insecure, power tripping, racist cop, to this noble, self sacrificing, humble hero, off the back of losing his friend, then his job, then reading a letter from his dead friend that turns him around completely.

Kingdom of Heaven (Director's Cut) - 9/10

The director's cut really is a sublime film, so much better than the non-standard version.

Agreed, the directors cut is a must see.

In hindsight, it should have been the version released at the cinema.

The Rock

Came up in my recommendation in YouTube, thought there’s a film I’ve not seen in years. Bought it on blu Ray.

Was watching a few outtakes of Ed Harris, he’s intense as strawberry float. Think I’d gooseberry fool my pants if I was stood next to him. This one scene he’s on the phone & he gets a line wrong, then he legit smashes the gooseberry fool out of the phone :dread:

I don’t think I can find a fault with it, everything about it (cast, pacing & score) is spot on.

I mhust be lhushing my shex appeal / underrated film.

The Vast of Night 5/10 - The concept of a radio story told as a movie is neat, but it never does much with it. Night scenes looked really muddy (streaming issue?), and the two central characters weren't endearing. Ah well.

Demolition Man 6/10 - All the 2020 pandemic jokes referencing this film got me watching it. It's alright, bog standard 90's action movie really.

Bohemian Rhapsody - 8/10

Really enjoyed this despite it being by Bryan Singer :dread: . Remi Malik was fantastic (even if the teeth prosthetics were a bit OTT compared to to the real Freddie). Never really considered myself a massive Queen fan but I enjoyed all of the songs in it.

Better than Rocketman in my opinion, took itself more seriously and was better for it.

Also really made me want to watch Wayne's World :slol:

The Royal Tenenbaums - 9/10

One of Wes Anderson's finest.

You Only Live Twice - 8/10

The most enjoyable classic Bond i've seen so far, the hollowed out volcano set was quality.
