So Ad probably doesn't even, like, raise the intonation in his voice towards the end of each sentence to give ambiguity to the statement and allow room to back out of an incorrect assertion by claiming it was in fact a question all along?

Really enjoyable gothic horror with Johnny Depp, great cast and preformances.

The Mummy (1999) 8/10
The original and the best, very much like Indiana Jones with a mix of light horror.

I'm a big fan of both of these, especially The Mummy. It's a bit cheesy and some of the effects are a bit ropey, but it does create a lot of atmosphere in certain scenes. I imagine it's pretty scary for the younger audiences. It's a great "go to" Sunday afternoon film. Mummy Returns, whilst decent, went for more of an action vibe and was heavily reliant on special effects. It's a fun movie, just nowhere near as good as The Mummy. It went a different route though, as it would have been pointless having a similar vibe to the first.

Jumanji: The next level - As a fan of the first one, I really enjoyed this. The Rock and Kevin Hart playing as 2 old guys is well done and I have a MAJOR crush on Karen Gillan as Ruby! 8/10.

Zombieland 2 - as enjoyably fun as the first one, some genuinely funny sequences and the added 'dumb rich girl' character is a plus. 8/10.

Tenet - 8/10

Loved it, although thankfully my wife is a lot smarter than me and helped me catch up :D

A perfect future double bill with Inception.

Karate kid part 3 - in preparation for cobra kai I managed to watch this on the us netflix via a vpn. Decent enough film, but the story wasn’t the best and I noticed so many details that I hadn’t previously when i was a kid like terry silver being the owner of cobra kai and mike fighting for rights to the dojo. Will be interesting to see if they turn up in the tv series.

We recently watched cobra Kai and absolutely loved it. You're in for a treat, I thought it was better than the film sequels.

Yeah was quite chuffed that netflix got the rights to this and have already seen the first episode on youtube free. I have read that one big character comes back, but its a shame mr miyagi has gone! I hadn’t even realised until recently that the guy was american and a comedian.

It’s also nice to see the actors succeed again as neither ralph or william have been up to much since the karate kid films ended. May watch the next karate kid again as its been decades and I won’t bother with the new one again as I thought it was a bit rubbish.

To be fair, he has a pretty good excuse for not doing the show.

A Lonely Place To Die: 5/10

First off, it's really good to see a film set in the Scottish Highlands. Some of the scenery shots are truly stunning. Unfortunately, my interest in it started to wane when it became clear that one of the women was seemingly impervious to injury (she should have died from exposure about 30 minutes into the film), and then it completely lost my interest when they reached the local village at about 3/4 of the way though and it turned into a very 'American' affair.

The village festival also made no sense because those sorts of pagan festivals are generally relegated to the Hebrides or (as far as I've heard) down Devon/Cornwall way. Plus in a village like that everyone knows everyone so there is no way shifty-looking, non-locals would be ignored like that. No way they wouldn't be stared at in the local pub in a 'yer not from around here are ye' type way.

I think people not from the Highlands would enjoy it the film more, but as soon as they reached the village it just became very unbelievable for me. As far as I'm concerned the entire plot should have taken place out in the wilderness and it would have been much better if it had.

The Matrix - 8
Reloaded - 7
Revolutions - 6

First time I’ve rewatched the whole trilogy back to back for a while. Controversially perhaps, I don’t think the original holds up all that well and the sequels aren’t as bad as they were made out to be. Sure by the end of Revolutions it’s all a bit non-sensical (how was Smith defeated?), but both sequels have some cool bits, Reloaded especially and the story mostly hangs together. On rewatch I think the biggest problem with the whole trilogy is that Keanu Reeves and Carrie Anne Moss have absolutely zero chemistry, which undermines the whole thing that a lot of sequels plot is resting on. I don’t think it’s necessarily their fault, they’re obviously directed to deliver the lines very flat and for the whole 7 hour run time they don’t really have that much dialogue together so the relationship never gets a chance to grow.

Time to watch the Patrick Willems rewrite

Tenet.

While the sequence of events threw me at times - inversion and concurrent timelines warped my perception perhaps a little too often - I walked out having been thrilled and intrigued the whole way through. It was also satisfying to make out most of the connections during that second half - and especially leading into the final act - leaving me overall more satisfied than I thought I might when things were still gearing up.

Annihilation

I'm very late to the party with this one but I thought it was excellent. It's literally just a retelling of John Carpenter's The Thing but it did it so well that it didn't bother me.

There are a fair few scenes that will be stuck in my mind for a long time to come. Truly horrific, nightmare stuff :dread:

Zombieland 2: Double Tap

Much better than I thought it would be, cos I thought it wouldn't live up to the original. How wrong I was. PS love the post credits bit as well.

This movie is an egomaniacal cringefest. I love it. Parts of it are so hilarious.
