I liked the Jolie Tomb Raider movies, the second one was actually a lot better than what it was made out to be too.

That skyscaper jump stunt with the wingsuits was amazing.

K-19: The Widowmaker - 8/10

Decent submarine drama, based on a true story. Absolutely terrifying to think there are nuclear-powered submarines out there packed to the gills with nuclear warheads :dread:

Not as good as Crimson Tide, but enjoyable nonetheless.

Apocalypto - 10/10

Best action/adventure movie of the past 20 years for me. Flawless structure and relentless momentum. My wife could not catch her breath during the final act.

TMW your wife is having an asthma attack but you're really in to the film.

So this year the Mrs and I have made the most of WFH by watching a shed load of films. (To be clear, I don't mean watching them when we were supposed to be working but by using the extra time from not having to commute)

We've watched pretty much all the major trilogies/sagas this year - one a week.

Once we ran out I wanted to keep up some sort of "theme" so what we've done is an "actor" theme but with a slight twist in that the last film of one actor would lead onto another so:

Denzel Washington
Training Day - 8/10 Good as I remembered and great Denzel performance
Bone Collector - 6/10 (Mrs choice). Think it's ok. Another good DW performance considering he is in bed.
Man on Fire - 7/10
American Gangster - 8/10. Again as good as I remembered. (this lead onto)

Russell Crowe:
Gladiator - 8/10. I generally consider this to be one of my favourite films of all time. I think it's still good but not as good as what I thought first time seeing it.
Master & Commander - 6/10. I enjoyed this more than the first time I watched it but still think it's a little boring
Body of Lies - 7/10. First time seeing this. Decent enough. Thought RC was good in it. (this lead onto)

Leonardo Di Caprio
Inception - 9/10. Second time watching and just as good as I remembered. I like the way they don't really explain how it all came about it just "this is what can happen" lets get on with it. Can't swtich off while watching it but keeps you engaged throughout.
Blood Diamond - 8/10. Solid enough action film
The Departed - 9/10. Again, still think this is great.

So up to now, Leo has been the best week. Remembering him first come onto the scene with Titanic and Romeo & Juliet I'd have never imagined he'd have gone on to be such a good actor and in so many good films.

Next week is Matt Damon. Planning on The Martian (really enjoyed it first time around) Elysium (not seen before) and Le Mans (not really interested in cars/racing but really looking forward to this for some reason).

I've got this planned out for weeks!

Tenet 7/10 almost works, enjoyed the ride. Sound mixing seemed fine at my cinema. Not sure I understand what was happening in the opening scene.

Drive - 6/10

The car scenes are good but the whole faux forced "love interest" is crap the long looks at each other and smirks is cringe. Then when her husband gets out from prison she is standing there thinking of him next door is so fake when they hardly say anything too each other prior too that all they do is just look and smirk at each other. The human being song montage is stupid she still barely knows him and we are meant too believe she, thinks he is a "wonderful human being" :fp:

Four Lions - 8/10

Very funny with some amazing moments. RIP Brother Crow.

Need to rewatch that but scared it won't hold up as I remember it. When I was 19 that film was one of my favourite ever movies.

Jumanji 2 - 9/10 watched drunk and thought it was really entertaining.

1917 - 9/10 what a denouement

Zombieland 2 - 4/10 watched this the other night and thought it was a massive strong down from the first. Nonsensical plot and Woody's character had become a bellend since the first.

I still found it enjoyable but it was nowhere near as good as the first, I thought it got a bit better as it went on.

The Karate Kid - 8/10

It's been a very long time since I watched this but I enjoyed Cobra Kai and so went back to it.

It's both better and worse than I remember it. I was shocked at how short the All Valley Tournament section was. The entire tournament is only about 15 minutes of the entire movie.

And I waited until after the credits to see Kreese confront Miyagi, before remembering that's the opening of Karate Kid 2. :lol:

Drive is all style and no substance.

Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey (a low) 6/10 Not as good as Excellent adventure wasn't as funny and didn't have the charm. Still it's watchable.
