I saw the original film at release in the cinema but haven't seen it since; and I had never seen the two sequels.

I was surprised at how well the special effects stood up considering they're now fifteen-to-twenty years old. The action is fun and pretty cool; although the slow-paced fight sequences can look a little funny now, they remain exciting to experience. Whilst I enjoyed the storyline of the first film, the effects seemed to take over in the sequels and I barely followed the "what and why" and just enjoyed the action. "Mr Smith" was terrific throughout, though; a real meanie!

In The Heights - 5/10

The music was decent, but it was basically a 90 minute film dragged out to 140 mins.

No Time To Die - 8/10; action packed, funny, emotional. It goes places I never thought a Bond film would ever, a nice swan song for Daniel Craig. I was a bit disappointed by Malek’s character but that aside it absolutely flew by.

Who can top that? Can’t wait to see who the next Bond is, those are some big shoes to fill.

Well Daniel Craig is only 5'10 so they're probably a size 9 at the most.

5/10. There are some good bits and there is a much better film in there but it doesnt hit the right notes. It misses a good few of the questions it should be asking quite hard. I can see the comparisons with the Truman show, but it doesnt have the heart or the brain or the courage of that film. They should have played the love story angle alot more and given the male programmer a more prominent role with more interaction with Jodie Comer. - even if it was to implant more of his personality into Ryan Reynolds. And theres so much bullshit about online games / programming it cant be ignored.

I watched it last night. Halfway through I said out loud to myself "why am I watching this?" and spent a lot of the second half looking at my phone, which I never normally do.

Tom and Jerry The Movie (2021) - 7/10. finally got round to seeing the new tom and jerry, quite enjoyed it more than I expected to.

Free Guy - 3/10

I dunno if I'm just bored of Ryan Reynolds shtick now but bar one or two moments I really didn't think this was that funny and it quickly became a chore. Way too long, Taika Waititi wasted as the OTT cartoon villain and I really don't think they did enough with the concept. Kind of felt like a movie made by an algorithm, ironically. Jodie Comer was good though, probably the one positive.

Goodfellas 8/10

Picked it from our hotel's DVD library on a recent holiday. I've seen it before and thought at the time it was quite boring but was willing to give it another go as I couldn't remember anything about it besides the Lufthansa heist, and that I probably watched it whilst doing something else.

I'm glad I rewatched it as it's thoroughly enjoyable and I guess it is one of the first for all these gangsta/drug biopics Layer Cake/Blow etc.

No Time to Die. 8/10

Generally good, I thought it was well paced, elements of traditional bond format, I thought Rami was bad/underused/had no development or good script. Ending - I think they might call it a day on James Bond.

Birds of Prey - 6.5/10

Nice action and some laughs but overall a bit meh. Ewan McGregor looked like he was having a great time. :lol:

Spiderman - the Toby Mcguire Kirsten Dunst one. I still think this is the best spiderman film. It might not have the sheen and production values of the Tom Holland films, but its got heart and independence that is lacking in current the MCU ones. I really hope No Way Home taps into this.

The second Maguire/Dunst one is still one of the finest superhero movies ever made.

Spider-Man 2001

It's still so good. I'd forgotten just how good so it was a nice reminder. I wish the sequel was on Netflix. I want to play the Insomniac game for a fourth time now.

I've only seen half of the first Amazing Spider-Man because I found it a bit boring but I'm going to give it and its sequel another go as I'm in a Spidey mood now.

The main problem with the Raimi Spiderman films was Tobey Maguire's sludgey, wet fart performance as Peter Parker.

Candyman (2021)

Really enjoyable, but a victim of its own ambition at times. It throws so many ideas into the mix but they don't all stick, nor do they always really gel well together. Candyman as both boogeyman and protector of the oppressed means that he goes from violently murdering school children to saving victims of police brutality at breakneck speed and you're just supposed be like 'Yea Candyman do be like that'. Visually it's amazing, some absolutely outstanding cinematography and effects that I assume were deliberately trying to evoke EC Comics like Tales from the Crypt and later Creepshow. I also like how frequently Candyman can be seen lurking in the background, you do really get the feeling that he's always there and always watching.

Yea, definitely recommended.
