Watchmen The End Is Night 5/10 The first chapter is fun, but it never really evolves from there. Not sure if I fancy buying the second part to see the story through to the end.
Alleyway 4/10 Dull breakout clone. Imagine if this was the game you got at Game Boy's launch?
Balloon Kid 7/10 Fun sequel to Balloon Fight, another sequel would be great on the eshop.
Mega Man III 7/0 Felt a bit bloated again.
Mach Rider 5/10 The main theme tune is the best thing to come from this weird Nintendo racer.

Ok so, I broke my New Year's resolution of finishing 5 games for every 1 I buy, and as a result, this is the first one I've finished in a month and a half.

Game 24: Mortal Kombat X

Truth be told, I wasn't terribly excited to play this. I loved MK9 to bits, but when this was announced I thought that a flashier version of the same thing wasn't necessary, so I tuned out completely from all the pre-release coverage. I saw it picked up some good scores, and saw it available on PC for less that £20, so I thought, "why not?". strawberry float. ME. I had severely underestimated how good this would be. The story was a blast of nonsensical comic-book fun and I wasn't expecting so many new characters, let alone for almost all of them to be great. Cassie Cage has probably shot straight to being my favourite of the whole damn series. Sure, it doesn't have the depth and longevity of something like Street Fighter in multiplayer, but I'll be damned if this isn't the greatest single-player fighting game of all time.
If you liked MK9 or any superhero movie, you'll like this.

Wario World on Gamecube. I have played this game numerous times over the years and I never get tired of it. Sure it's pretty short and the gameplay is a little simplistic but it's a lot of fun. 7/10

Professor Layton and The Curious Village - 8/10

I cheated a little because I wanted to see the end of the story. Don't judge me.

Zelda - A Link Between Worlds

9/10 Great game, lovely use of 3D, great blend of original features and nods to ALTTP. A lot easier than the SNES outing, but not necessarily a bad thing for someone who wants to extract the most from a game in a relatively stress free manner. Great music and, as with seemingly every Zelda, the action gets going from the start. And the baseball game is brilliant.

Bloodborne 9/10

Simply brilliant. The only game, apart from fifa that gives me sweaty palms playing it. And after downing a ginormous boss with the words "PREY SLAUGHTERED" appearing on the screen, fist pumping and saying strawberry float yeah :datass:

Great great game. Lovely looking too.

Fabian Delph is a banana split.

Kid Icarus 6/10 Fun NES game which feels like a mash up of Metroid, Zelda II and Super Mario Bros. 3D Classic version is better as it refines the controls.

Finally finished GTA 5 after weeks! Clearly GTA games are not for me. Technically, the game is pretty good, I liked the variety of cars and the car models were quite nice. Long drives between points just felt like padding though, the planes and helicopters were a strawberry floating pain to pilot (and some of the plane missions had unnecessary lengthy flying parts that also felt like padding).

Completing missions only to be left without a car (more padding) also pissed me off. Getting killed in some of the battles at the end also became very frustrating (more padding?).

This was not for me, a frustrating 6

Yes?

Assassins Creed IV: Black Flag *****

I loved this game, it got stupid near the end with their usual nonsense magic/sci fi stuff but the main game was magnificent. I finished it with 94% completion, I got every fragment, song, chest, everything, simply because I loved being in the world and being a pirate. As usual the plot made no sense but I didnt care, it was just a way for me to do some cool gooseberry fool and see parts of the world. Such a massive change from III which was a massive chore and just not fun. Im a little disappointed that the DLC isnt available on Wii U but it is available as a standalone title on steam so Ill likely go that route when I feel like getting my next pirate fix.

Also, why are there not more pirate games? Ninjas have loads of games but pirates are woefully under represented in games.

Valiant Hearts: The Great War - PC

I thought this was excellent, a game that presents a poignant and touching story of a group of individuals trying to survive WWI, presented in a well-thought out art style and a genuinely touching narrative. Gameplay-wise there are moments where you have to find objects to use in other places in adventure game-style, some action sequences where you drive towards the screen having to dodge...things, and a couple of boss fights that make use of the throwing mechanic that crops up often. Also a few interesting puzzles that involve using you and the dog who ends up coming with you.

It has moments and scenes that highlight the horror and madness of war, some moments are funny and light-hearted and some are touching and emotional. It has this great almost Tintin-like visual style, and a great soundtrack of classical pieces and a moving original score. I'm probably not going to play it again, but I'm very glad I did, and it's something that Ubisoft should pay attention do and put out smaller games like this rather than the constant homogenisation of Watch_Dogs, AC and Far Cry.

9/10
