The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds - 9/10

I really really really enjoyed that from start to finish. Instantly one of my favourite Zeldas. The rental system was a nice change but needs a little bit of tweaking and it was a little too easy to miss some of the upgrades. Other than those 2 minor niggles a wonderful experience. In a stacked year this is the best game on 3DS.

Really?

I don't know what it is, but Blood Dragon didn't work for me. Think I've only done the first two outposts or something. I should like it, given how I felt about Far Cry 3. I'll give it another go over the next few weeks, I think, but at the moment I'd rather restart the main game.

It's not the main missions I like so much (though there are some great ones there too), I just love running around capturing outposts stealthily. If I do start it again however, I think I would like to be much more shotgun than bow.

Thomas Was Alone (PC) - 8/10

Really liked it, even if it was quite easy - well that might be why I like it to be honest, it's relaxing puzzle/platformer game. Good way to pass some time.

I think the 80s vibe and the 16bit intros really just sold me on blood dragon. Whereas i found literally nothing likeable about FC3, the story, characters, and setting, and enemies were all utterly bland. Well aside from Vaas, who seemed cool, but i only ever saw in the intro

You see Vaas quite a few times before the end of the first island. Something tells me you didn't get very far? I didn't like the story or characters very much either (in fact I suspect that's almost by design, but whatever the writer was going for failed), the core gameplay of running around in the jungle hunting animals and liberating outposts I just find endlessly enjoyable. Some of the main missions are excellent as well.

Finished Blood Dragon yesterday, with all garrisons etc. done. I think it's the weapons that separates this from the main game for me. None of them feel any good until you get a few upgrades on them (except for the machine pistol gun which is crap throughout), and soon they become almost overpowered. Compare that to the weapons in Far Cry 3 and there's a clear difference IMO.

Brothers: A Tale Of Two Sons - 9

Last minute entry into my top five games of the year. Beautiful

Sonic 2 Android - 9/10

Excellent port as always from Christian Whitehead.

Having a whole new level in Hidden Palace Zone is like a gift to my young self that's waited this long to be unwrapped. Awesome, except for the fact that it uses multiplayer Mystic Cave Music and not the awesome (and until now mysterious) Hidden Palace theme from the old sound test? What's that all about?!

DLC Quest - 8/10

While it's rather short, it's very enjoyable experience which made me laugh out loud, yet perfectly summaries up 'What if' case if DLC goes too far.

Amazing game for 69p.

Forza 4.

Havent 'finished' it so much as gone as far as I'm going to go with it. Certainly played enough to throw down a verdict.

It's good, very good. Wasn't a fan of the Top Gear challenges and the like, but horses for courses.

My only other gripe is one that I have with all these types of racing games. Spruce up the tracks! Yes I'm well aware they're after authenticity, but balls to that I say because they're awfully dull.

The Stanley Parable - 8/10

Made me laugh, and I enjoyed trying to find different ways to 'beat' it. Glad I bothered to get it :)

Thirty Flights of Loving - 5/10

...I don't get it. Looks pretty nice and I like how it doesn't uses words to tell story but I felt it jumped from one thing to another too quickly. Much preferred Gravity Bone.

Amnesia: The Dark Descent - 9/10

One of few horror games where it genuinely gets things right about horror game. Took me while to finish it though, because it was damn scary  Very very enjoyable experience although I don't think I want another game like it for good while!

Finished 22 games this year, and 2 dlc....here's a few from the list.

The Walking Dead: season 1
Rating: 85/100
this game was a bit of a dark horse for me, i have to admit....i did not expect much from it...but it completely blew me away.
the story is gripping, it sort of just pulls you right in. anyone who hasn't played it should.

res evil 6
rating: 40/100
biggest disappointment for me this year. Another tragedy, a game that could of been great. In my opinion, its like the creators
forgot that they were making a game....and suddenly became hollywood producers. The one thing i won't complain about is the graphics. On pc, visually...its quite beautiful, but that's about all the game has going for it. Its strayed too far from the roots which it once came, but we'll leave that discussion for another thread :)

Borderlands 2/ & its dlc
rating: 90/100
by far the best game ive played in 2013....its fast, action packed, and so much fun its hurts! the dialogue and characters are absolutely hilarious....and its not often you'll find a game with as much replay value as this. Every dlc is worth buying, as they are just as good as the core game, so far ive put 61 hours into this game and im not at all bored of it yet.....LOVE IT!

TOMB RAIDER 2013
rating: 80/100
i wanted so much to rate this game higher, but i just couldnt bring myself to do it.....to be honest, i feel sorry for the developers....if this game had a naughty dog emblem on the front of the case, and the main protagonist was a certain mr nathan drake, then it might well have been awarded game of the year. unfortunately, nathan drake is not in this game.....and as much as the graphics and stunning, and the gameplay is almost on par with uncharted.....its missing the characters and witty script which we all know is what makes uncharted truly great. still, i enjoyed it though.

Xenoblade Chronicles (Wii)
Sometimes thought I wasn't ever going to get to the end of this, but finally managed it last night with 89 hours and 51 minutes on the clock. Some frustrating difficulty spikes aside, an outstanding game that has been almost universally overlooked in the appraisals of last gen.

Liberation Maiden (3DS)
Very short at five stages that take between 10 and 20 minutes each, but it's a score attack game really. Looks and sounds great and enjoyable in the main, but nigh-on unplayable if you're anything less than competent with your right hand. I'm left-handed and the stylus was almost slipping out of my hand during the final boss.

Xenoblade is my game of last gen. Incredible in so many ways. If Monolith can get that out of the old Wii hardware with virtually no load times, then god knows what they'll achieve with X on WiiU - my most anticipated game.

And my axe.

Absolutely brilliant game, easily one of the best games of the last generation. Phenomenal.

I called off his players' names as they came marching up the steps behind him....All nice guys. They'll finish last. Nice guys. Finish last.

Mass Effect- 8/10

The opening few hours before you leave the citadel are far too slow and made me abandon the game originally but it picked up a lot from there. Combat was fun but my excessive use of the shotgun with polonium rounds made it incredibly easy long before the endgame.

Kept trying to have Shepard hit on Tali but nothing happened there which is a shame as she was a far more interesting character than Liara or the racist. Immediately started on Mass Effect 2 and the new controls and dumbed down levelling system are annoying me. At least it looks shiny in 1920x1080.

Xenoblade made me interested in JRPG's again. One of the best games on the Wii. Story kinda goes absolutely insane towards the end, still to this day I'm unsure whether I liked where it went.

I think I've watched both X trailers like 40 times already. I can't wait to play it.

Watch the latest pop fiction. There's an explanation from the developers themselves.

After reading that I want it, though I'll wait till last day of sale (or it's in daily / flash deal). Sounds good though.

I have the trial downloaded on 2 consoles already, waiting to bite at a sale price. It's a tenner on Live, 11 on PS3.
