Gone Home - £12, Steam, 9/10

Amazingly effective story "experience" (it's really just all about poking around a house to learn the story).
Will stay with you a long time, and even though it's short - it's an excellent experience and shows how good 'games' can be at telling stories.

Even better the second time through. So damn good. Got the good ending this time, too. Much more satisfying. Really cool how low chaos levels affect the missions too. The last level was in the dark last time, and everyone was killing one another. I also came across Granny Rags trying to cook Slackjaw, which I somehow missed the first time.

The DLC is good too. Check it out. I haven't played Brigmore Witches yet, but Knife Of Dunwall is awesome.

Oracle of Ages - 8/10

Apart from that shitty Jabu Jabu dungeon (worst zelda dungeon ever), and some annoying padding, this is a great game. I played this back when it came out, missed out on Seasons. Now that I've been through both games in the past few months, I prefer Seasons. Some of the changes brought in by the link feature are pretty sweet, but I didn't do any of fetch quests between games (I'm not even sure they still work in this version?)

Dishonered - Knife Of Dunwall (7/10) and The Brigmore Witches (8/10). Utterly Superb. This is what I always wanted DLC to be. It was lovely being back in Dunwall again. God Dishonered was awesome.
Up there with Bioshock Minervas Den for best DLC to a game.

Gone Home, it's a nice little story which unmasks itself very well however there's little that this gains from being a game and it is very short especially given the asking price.
It's a neat concept well executed but the little projects like this do need to find a way to be more than a linear museum tour.

It is worthy of some praise (but certainly not to the extent it's already received from the press) and it is much better than fellow notable non-games Dear Esther and To the Moon (it certainly kept me more immersed and involved than them).

In short the story is well told but there's absolutely nothing else there besides story, it has been called a game but it has no gameplay.

As a story I like it and I'd give it 6/10 or so, as a game it can have 3/10 for decent story, controls, sound direction and being free of glitches.

Absolutely love Lammy, and I too only played it for the first time somewhat recently. It's just brimming with so much charm and style.

Which regional version of the game did you play? I played the US one, not knowing they actually censored that version so that she doesn't die and get sent to hell(...!!) for the popstar stage.

Journey - 9/10

What a fantastic little game. The visuals and Audio were just amazing. Really liked how the game handled co-op play, interesting to see how many players you met at end too. (6 for me). Played it all in one sitting, about 2 and half hours, but felt just right. Will definitely go through again soon. Nice to play something so different for once.

Uncharted 3.

Not quite as good as 2 in terms of character involvement, etc, but still pretty damn good. Absolutely stunning in places, too.

The never ending supply of enemies in firefights is extremely annoying at times, but on balance they didn't absolutely ruin the ending with awful overpowered magical enemies (not for long, anyway) and an awful last boss battle. Like all the Uncharted games, though, it outstays its welcome.

Could have done with killing off Marlow and Talbot in more satisfying ways, though.

It also highlights just how much they've upped their game with The Last of Us.

8/10.

KOTOR II: The Sith Lords Epic/10

KOTOR was amazing when I played it but this seems to surpass it in every way. I feel that the story is more interesting as a whole, especially with the references to Revan and how your dialogue choices let you recreate your choices from the original so that the story flows together. The lightsaber styles were a welcome addition as it added another dimension to combat so that there was more to it than using, for the most part, the same attacks all the time; it required me to mind my surroundings.

It's a shame that KOTOR III became TOR but at least I still have another Obsidian game to play (Fallout New Vegas). As for the story of the Old Republic, is TOR worth playing? I'm tempted to subscribe for a month (so I can actually run at the start) just to reach the end game.

Red Dead Redemption - 9/10

+ Great atmosphere
+ Lovely soundtrack
+ Looks brilliant
+ Satisfying gunplay
+ Nice variation of things to do

- Some really dull bits (animal herding, capturing wild horses, and lots of needless travelling)
- Dragged on for far too long

On the whole, a brilliant package. The ending was good, although would've been better if it had been spoiled for me on here a while back. Will have a break then perhaps tackled Undead Nightmare.

Dead Island Riptide(360) - 5.5/10

A somewhat playable game marred by bugs and sometimes frustratingly hard with hordes of zombies coming at you.

Wario Ware 7/10. A 9 back in the day, but I find it a little too easy, the boss battles jarring, and the grid mode tedious now.

I've given up on this now. I quite liked it most of the time, but ended up getting stuck on a particular bit around a third to a half way through. After replaying it half a dozen times (and having chosen quite an easy mode in the first place), I just couldn't face carrying on.

Thing is, I did quite like it, even if the basic gameplay was quite repetitive. Watch a cut-scene, wander into an environment with lots of boxes, crates or cupboards as 'cover', and wait for a stack of enemies to come steaming in and start a firefight. Beat the firefight, start the next cutscene, and rinse and repeat. Over and over again. But the basic mechanic works pretty well, at least until you get tired of it, as I did.

It's a decent game, and someone with more skill / patience would probably get loads more out of it. But that's not me, so for me it's a 6 (and very narrowly not a 7).

6/10

You're gooseberry fool at the game so you award it 6 ?

Sounds like a bumpain review to me

You make an interesting point. So, I'd like to apologise to Max Payne and his family and revise my original score.

5/10.

Still an absolutely great game, and bloody challenging on Professional difficulty!

I just finished it too. I largely agree with everything you said. If I had a penny for every time Darker says "oh crap!', I'd have well over 50p. Oh! those protracted platform sections. The odd thing is they require hardly any skill whatsoever, the only set backs come from forced scripted events accompanied by the inevitable 'oh crap'. You said it Nathan.

As for the combat, about 75% through the game Drake says 'God, I'm sick of these guys'. I'd reached that point much earlier. Enemies shouldn't get up after being shot in the face with a machine gun at point blank range.

I loved Uncharted 2, but this was quite tedious at times. I guess the story pulled me along, the ending was a bit disappointing and the baddies' motives made no real sense.

7/10

So far this year, I have eaten NO mince pies.
