Very reminiscent of Lost so I'd recommend it to anyone who enjoyed that show. The monsters in this are genuinely quite creepy.

This sounds interesting - what channel or service is it on?

It's on Sky Sci-Fi. The showrunner worked on Lost & Fringe.

Yeah, it was available for me on Virgin On-Demand, I imagine if your TV package has the SyFy channel you should have access to it somewhere.

9/10 is probably an objectively generous score so don't go in expecting something groundbreaking, but if you like mystery-box style shows you should enjoy it.

Terrible name though

Under The Banner of Heaven - 8/10
A devout Mormon investigates a gruesome double murder, seemingly linked to the Mormon faith. While its ending disappointed slightly (Garfield's crisis of faith deserved a more severe reaction after everything he had learned), this was a thoroughly engrossing watch; held together by its strong cast and script (based on a true crime). It's on Disney+ (8 eps).

Severance

Went in to it knowing nothing about it and absolutely loved it. Reminded me a lot of Lost. Might have to resub to Apple TV when S2 comes out (something i was not expecting to say).

Great cast and thoroughly intriguing.

I've watched the first three episodes and I'm in the "This really isn't that good, but I can't help being entertained and carrying on watching for now" stage.

It does feel a bit like Lost but without flashbacks and instead turbocharged super evil versions of the Others, who turn up straight away this time. Oh, and Michael doesn't scream for Walt every two minutes.

Yeah, it's far from the best show around but I stayed entertained throughout and will be checking out season 2 when it releases.

I think that flashbacks would have actually worked pretty well with this show to flesh out all the characters in the town, but they probably didn't want to draw any more Lost comparisons  Michael is by far the best actor in the show, some of the townfolk are a bit ropey.

Also I just watched the finale of Better Call Saul which has made me realise my 9/10 is probably even more generous than I first thought

Trainwreck: Woodstock 99

5/10

This is an odd one. For almost all of the 3 episodes it weaves between hilarious and mindblowing that anybody could organise something so badly (although much better than Fyre Festival!).

I can't blame the rioters at all, they were treated like gooseberry fool (literally drinking gooseberry fool!) and ripped off.

If it had stopped there, then it'd be a 8/10. 9/10 if they didn't show Flea's penis so often.

But then for the last 5 minutes, they suddenly bring up the rapes and serious sexual assaults. It seems to me that rather than an hour and a half of "lol, the kids set stuff on fire", they should have maybe thought about the big story was the evil banana splits that were raping people. They spent as long on t-shirts being looted.

Atlanta S1 - 8
Atlanta S2 - 8
Atlanta S3 - 5

When this show is good there’s nothing like it on TV and it’s absolutely fantastic as well as wickedly funny. It has always trodden a fine line of becoming very wanky though and the latest season really fell over into the wrong side of that. It’s like they were trying to ape the more surreal moments of Louis CKs old show, which they have achieved very successfully in the past, but it just descended it aimless nonsense. Like there’s an episode that deals with reparations for slavery and it’s just nothing, the attitude just seems to be an edgy ‘imagine if this happened lol’, it doesn’t offer any comment on it or a funny perspective and there are several episodes like that in the season. Dunno maybe I’m missing something but this latest season was way off the mark for me, which is a real shame because of how much talent is behind the show.

Agents of Shield S2. 9/10

Really good, lots of threads going on at once and coming together really quite well thought out. High pace. Big ensemble cast. When rating marvel series - this one really is right up there better than Hawkeye, Loki, Wanda, JJ S1, very close to Daredevil S1/S3. Why didnt i watch this sooner/isnt alot bigger profile than it should be?

Onto S3.

The Handmaid's Tale - Series 4

I'd almost go as far as to say that I wish I hadn't bothered. Remarkably poor compared with the previous three stunningly engaging series.

Bosch Seasons 1-7

9/10

It's fantastic and highly recommended. The cast are all great (special mention of Lance Reddick's annoyed intonation of "Bosch" which delighted me every time), stories are engaging and it made me track down Michael Connelly's original books.

Started watching the spinoff Bosch Legacy and it's transparently Bosch season 8 with a cut down budget and missing a lot of the great supporting cast. Even the title sequence music is worse. :( Also it's on Amazon Freevee which is some ad supported gooseberry fool within Prime. I'm already paying for Prime why are you showing me adverts?

It gets better and better too, season 5 is amazing.

Mind you, i didn't see much of season 6 (the odd episode on E4), and i didn't get to see any of season 7.

Nothing beyond season 5 was released on disc either.

The advert thing is absolute shite, god knows why Amazon thinks this is ok for paid Prime subscribers. The show does get better though, and there are some nice cameos from the old cast. Stick with it.

I don't know if they still do it but I had a Fire tablet a few years ago and you couldn't change the lock screen from adverts, couldn't believe it when I bought one and realised. Probably a taster for things to come with phones though.

In Amazon's defence, they have 4K options for free which is something I've never understood Netflix charging extra for.

Apparently Bosch's brother in the books has a Netflix series.

I love it. Noirey detective show set in LA with a load of cast from The Wire. Far and away my favourite thing I've watched in 2022 and halfway through season 4, the quality hasn't gone.

Also I like saying Bosch.

BOSCH!

I agree, I'd go 9/10 for Sandman as well. Not a bad performance amongst the whole cast and some absolutely standout ones from David Thewlis, Boyd Holbrook and Kirby Howell-Baptiste. Also special mention to Stephen Fry for just being the most perfect casting for Gilbert, there is literally no-one else on earth who could have done this role better.
