Especially after Steve Carell leaves in Season 7.

I still enjoyed it, but the peak is undoubtedly seasons 3-5.

Yeah Carell leaving is the start of the real low point and they never really recovered from it. Will Ferrell's character :dread:

I agree that there is still stuff to enjoy in the later seasons but if Jawa is already struggling at season 6 then he may not benefit from pushing on!

I think after S5 they ran out of ideas for the characters. Coupling up in sitcoms usually are bad points - so Jim and Pam getting married kind of cuts them off. Then romantic rumblings of Dwight/Andy/Angela/Erin just dragged. The introduction of the gabe character was unneeded, and it seemed he was just a very gooseberry fool Toby. Kathy Bates was really bad - it was as though her contract was just to make her seem like a bitch and not funny at all. The Ed helms character wa messed up with Hangover commitments, and i think BJ Novak, and Mindy Kaling concentrated on writing other stuff (?)
They had the right formula with the strong ensemble cast for the first 5 seasons, but after that it was torn apart and diluted and thats when it stopped working.

On a similar note, ive been watching Community, and unlike many on here, i think S4 and halfway through S5 its still good - the turning point is when Donald Glover leaves. The two replacements in S6 dont work, and although Jonathan Banks is good, hes too serious and doesnt bring the same comedy level that Chevy Chase did.

Yeah they did seem to run out of ideas, it's natural that was going to happen, especially in a show with quite a tight focus like The Office, but it's still a shame when it happens.

I've got a soft spot for later Community and think Paget Brewster and Keith David work really well in S6. The more I rewatch it the more I find that the way they overdose on the more zany aspects of the show during the middle seasons is what kills it for me, the whole Warlord Chang/ air conditioner repair school storyline in S3 just kills the balance of oddball reality that the first two seasons nailed so well.

I think Buffy S3 is the best - really good school story arc in that. S4 is the weakest but has some strong episodes. I like the change of pace Spike brings in later seasons.
I also recommend watching Angel chronologically with Buffy, iirc from buffy season 3ish? S3 Angel is also a highlight with the whole Holtz story arc.

Season 7 is the weakest. So abysmal I never even finished it.

Kakegurui XX

Not as entertaining as the first season but I still enjoyed it. It was just so silly but there was something uniquely appealing about watching the students outsmart each other with ever more convoluted trump cards.

Started Castlevania season 3 finally and was pleasantly surprised to hear Bill Nighy.

Saw Lupin (dans l'ombre d'Arsene). Was pretty good and imo a nice and respectful way to sort of reboot the Lupin property in a modern context. There was some dumb/kinda contrived writing that you tend to see in these types of shows, but overall worth the time and I look forward to next half of the show (strawberry float knows when that's out)

As a side note, while my French is rusty I did notice that at points the translation was a bit off, but I suppose it mostly got across the intentions of what was being said if not the full nuance.

The Mandalorian - Series 2

What a stunning turnaround! After the first episode I nearly gave up, as it felt exactly like series 1. It quickly picked up then just got better and better.

I think it often leans a bit too heavily into the hero armour trope and it can start to feel a bit ridiculous with any threat removed when the good guys just dance around easily taking everyone out, dodging enormous gunfire, popping off headshots left right and centre, yawning their way through fights in which they are drastically outnumbered etc, but I guess that's always been the way with Star Wars.

Can't believe how much I love this after strongly disliking series 1, but I'm very glad that I do .

Attack on Titan S3 Part 2 - 6/10

I thought this was really disappointing. Feels like the writer didn't really have a plan for it from the beginning, so it's all a bit of a mess. Also, I noticed that the show keeps doing this annoying thing where it sticks flashbacks right in the middle of its action sequences. I don't know who decided that was a good idea, but they strawberry floated it. It kills the momentum of it.

Raised by wolves 5/10

It started off with a bang, and the first couple of episodes were really interesting, then it just dragged out until the end and didn't do much. If the whole series was condensed to 3 longer episodes, it could have been so much better.

Equinox - 8/10

Really gripping stuff once it hits its stride, had genuine chills during the pagan ritual scene, I was constantly thinking "get the hell out of there now you daft strawberry floaters", what happened to Ida was creepy as strawberry float

Thought the ending was a little vague though, unsure whether its leading to a 2nd season or not and also if it really needs one.

Chilling Adventures of Sabrina: Part 1

I really enjoyed that and I'm very much looking forward to seeing what happens next. Good fun. Lord Blackwood was so theatrically devilish

Disenchantment series 3, loved the first 2 series of this but found series 3 rather dull on the whole, a few laughs throughout but just didn’t seem as good as the first 2 series to me. 6/10

Ive started watching Superstore on netflix. I like it, its quite light. America Ferrera is cute, and the other woman is like a female dwight shrute.

S2 is a bit flakey, but S3 and S4 have more coherent story arcs.

Person of Interest 7/10

Decided to binge it this last couple of weeks. Takes a few episodes to really get going, but once it picks up steam it was great fun for a few seasons.

But the whole 'mystery of the week' thing began to really feel out of place at times from around season 4 once certain aspects of the main story progressed.

It also became a bit more difficult to suspend my disbelief at how easily the story just chugged by and plot amour would save the day at times, and in the last couple of seasons the action could be quite unengaging. I'm not sure if their budget was cut, or I just few tired of the format but I grew a bit more weary of things from season 4 to the end - but still was happy enough to carry on plodding away.

I would be well up for a more concise Netflix show that's about 8 episodes a season that has some of the same themes and DNA. Feel the 24(ish) episode format was constantly fighting against its grander ambitions, and something like daredevil showed TV action has really stepped up it's game since.

As much as I loved the show, I definitely agree about the 'case of the week' format being detrimental to the overall storyline.

Stranger Things s1 and s2

I mean, wow. We ended up getting through season 2 in one go just purely because we couldn’t stop watching and had to see what happened next. I need time to digest what happened but it’s looking strongly like a 10/10 for ST so far!

Damn, if you liked season 2 that much you're probably going to love season 3.
