Cobra Kai is the best show I've never been able to sell anyone on.

The craziest thing is how irl Terry Silver is a year younger than Daniel.

The Witcher S2

It's just such a mess of a show. Tonally it's all over the place and it very rarely makes any sense. It certainly has its moments, the self contained episodes of monster hunting can be fun. But those moments are becoming less and less frequent.

4/10

I also can’t convince anyone else to watch it. It’s amazing. I’m taking it slow though. Only on episode 4 at the moment, trying not to finish the series too quickly. Although at this rate I’ll be done in a few days

I enjoyed The Witcher S2 more than S1.

Star Trek - The Original Series - 7/10

As part of Cheeky Devlin's big rewatch, I have watched all 3 seasons of the original Star Trek.

It's batshit crazy. I always thought Star Trek was supposed to be more hard sci-fi (Skarjo :x ) but it makes Cobra Kai look realistic.

But it's very enjoyable and hilarious. Although the hilarity is not intended

The Witcher 2

5/10 Rushed nonsense. They've added so much of their own gooseberry fool to the story that just doesn't work. And the whole thing feels cheap and amateur. Won't be bothering with season 3. Such a disappointment. Really poor.

Reminds me a lot of the modern Star Wars trilogy. Just badly written fluff

Just started Cobra Kai series 4 and much like the previous 3 series it’s bonkers but it works for some reason, it’s still hitting just the right amount of cheesiness too

The Tourist - 8/10
Basically Fargo but set in Australia. Very twisty and farfetched but was quite good fun.

Blair & Brown: The New Labour Revolution

Can't help but feel really sad after watching this. Seems clear to me Blair made two mega strawberry float ups:

1. Not abandoning the US after failing to find WMD within six months and failing to obtain UN support
2. Not standing down and allowing Brown to campaign as PM for the 2005 general election

(Obviously, the first one is at a completely different level to the second one.)

Impossible to say for sure but I wonder if they could have won a fourth term if they had just been battling the recession and had never gone to Iraq.

I've definitely got the hots for Gordon Brown. He seemed quite obsessed with wealth redistribution and made some great progress towards taking money from greedy private companies and giving it to poor people, schools and hospitals. That closing shot of him walking away from Number 10 holding hands with his family brought a tear to my eye .

Obviously, Blair is all sorts of strawberry floated up, but what a juggernaut of a politician he was  the two of them in partnership seemed utterly formidable. How desperately far we have sunk to a failed state of anti-intellectual, populist, jingoistic bullshit.

Even with those two things destroying Labour, the Tories didn't win outright in 2010. So I think it's safe to say Labour would have won in 2010 without Iraq and the financial crash.

I was thinking without the war (which could have been avoided) but with the recession (unavoidable). George Osborne makes a point in the documentary that if you've been in charge for a long time and the economy has completely crashed then your time is up. You and I know that it was nothing to do with Labour, but the Tories successfully blamed it on Labour and I don't doubt they would have been able to convince the average voter it was Labour's fault even if trust hadn't been eroded by the war.

I do think you're right though and that they could have pulled it off if the war wasn't a factor (at least, not a factor in the way it turned out to be). Trying to imagine now what the country might be like if that had happened. Brown would have obviously gone in the complete opposite direction of austerity. He probably would have solved world hunger and cured cancer too :shifty:.

Yeah, sorry I misread your post.

I still think they'd have comfortably won with the financial crisis but without Iraq.

I think Brown's biggest mistake was not going for an election soon after becoming PM. Holding on until 2010 was a big mistake, he'd have won (even with the crash and Iraq) in 2008/2009.

Back in about 2004 Blair and Brown visited the business park where i was working. Blair gave a lecture in the conference room there - He was six foot, larger than life, broad shoulders, power suit, visually charismatic - everyone was flocking around him. My friend wanted a picture with him so i was the camera man. I was waiting in the corridor for them and just backing up when i bumped into someone. I turned around and it was Gordon Brown - he was total contrast to Blair, short, thin, but very friendly and humble. I said hello and shook his hand, I remember him saying in his Scottish accent "I see you have a camera phone there", I responded with something like - i was waiting for my friend. He seemed to get out of the way not long after. In hindsight i realise he wanted a selfie with me. No one was bothered at all about Brown at all. I do kind of regret not talking to him abit more because he did seem like a genuine bloke.

Just got one episode left of the 4th series of Cobra Kai and I literally don’t know how they make nearly every scene in this show so funny  Will be getting it finished off tomorrow, hoping for a good finale!

Edit, just finished episode 10 and what a great way to end the season, I still can’t quite believe I enjoy a series about karate this much  Hopefully we won’t have long to wait till series 5 drops!

Sounded like a terrible idea when they said they were bringing Dexter back but they nailed it. It's up there with S4 as one of the best seasons of the show imo and definitely worth watching for anyone who liked it back in the day.

I think the soundtrack guy on Cobra Kai was composing music for another TV show.

Midnight Mass - 8

Watched it after seeing people here recommend it in their show of the year lists and very glad I did. I really great mini series with a compelling central story and lovely creepy atmosphere throughout. Felt tonally it missed in places and some of the acting is pretty ropey but overall the cast is very watchable. Built to a great crescendo even if a lot of actions toward the end don't make much sense and there are still some question marks over what was going on. Definitely worth a watch and thanks to GR for the tip.
