Very late to this one and I haven't finished the series yet, but last night watched episodes 7 and 8 of the second season, where Kevin poisons himself and ends up in a hotel as an international assassin, either in limbo between life and death or in his own sub-conscious. This show is brilliant, absolutely loving it so far. Some of the writing and acting is so good, there was a scene with Regina King and Carrie Coon doing a questionnaire a few episodes ago that was some of the best stuff I've watched in ages.

Will be a definite 10/10 for me if it can maintain this quality, and I've only ever heard good things about the ending so I'm optimistic.

Interestingly, the first season was based on a book and everything beyond that is from Damon Lindelof. Loved season 2 as well - probably my favourite season of any show. I'd argue season 3 can't maintain that same level of quality, but the ending is excellent.

Dark (netflix) is pretty much a masterpiece but probably not for everyone. I NEED to watch The Leftovers as I always hear great things. I also recommended Mr Robot. Last show I actually watched was Mare of Easttown (HBO) starring Kate Winslet. Really good show, well acted and some really intense moments in that show.

I’ve been watching High Fidelity after reading some positive reviews but I’m struggling to get on with it. None of the characters are particularly likeable and I’m struggling to empathise with any of them. That said, the casting of Zoe Kravitz as Rob is probably the most interesting thing about this and she’s very watchable. She’s so beautiful though so some of the more humiliating and pathetic scenes feel a bit of a stretch. I hope it improves but right now I can’t feel anything for these frustrated hipster new yorkers.

As someone who loved Dark and Mr Robot (particularly the final season which I thought was brilliant) then you definitely need to get around to The Leftovers. I've just finished season two and it was fantastic, one of the best seasons of television I've watched.

Sons of Anarchy (series 1 to 7, Netflix)

I have just finished viewing the complete series, pretty much back-to-back. Man, it could be a tough watch at times; the violence and the storylines were often harsh.

I think I enjoyed it but the twists and turns made it pretty uncomfortable. There were some good characters but, in terms of the plot, I wanted things to somehow turn out at least, well, okay... but you kind of knew that was never going to happen.

After the intensity of watching it so much over the past couple of months, I think that I need a break from that type of programme; I'm gonna have a few sessions of Marvel films to get over it.

Tied with Mare of Eastown for my favourite show of the year so far. It's a slow burn but once it kicks into life it has an intoxicating, manic energy. Murray Barlett deserves to be a star after his performance.

We just finished this. We weren't totally sure after the first episode but it really draws you in. Absolutely brilliant. Enjoyable on a superficial level-it looks and sounds great, the performances are fun (especially Murray Barlett as you point out) but a lot going on beneath the surface and it really nails its major themes around white privilege and the system in the finale.

 . It was a bit of a strange finish but I think most long-running series tend to have disappointing endings. Too many threads being juggled, I guess!

I'm currently watching through it for the first time. Annoyingly I had a massive break between the first and second season (which I'm on now) so am having to read up on stuff that I'd completely forgotten about :fp:

I envy you, I'd love to watch it completely fresh again. I still think about it regularly, especially the music. Some of the songs used are just *mwah*, especially those that end episodes on a really melancholic vibe:

Kid A - Radiohead
When it's cold I'd like to die - Moby
Thru and thru - Rolling Stones

I think it's quite simply the best TV show I've ever had the pleasure of experiencing. It was amazing the first time round but on a second run-through you pick up on so much more of the story and characters, as well as the general way that the world works in the show. Gandolfini was an absolute master of his craft (and it's so strawberry floating sad that he's gone :( ), but everyone was brilliant in it. Shoutout to Paulie for being amazing at acting even though he spent most of his life being an actual gangster, I loved his character and all of his idiosyncrasies.

Brutal, uncompromising, deep, dark, funny, heart-warming, intensely sad, profound, adrenaline-pumping, tragic - god damn it's just so strawberry floating good.

It's such a shame we'll never get to see the aftermath of the finale, but I guess some things are just meant to be left to our imagination. Plus we've kind of already seen what life after Tony would have been like, as he was effectively dead when he was in his coma and we saw how life would have gone on without him.

Love it

Ohhh! Whattaya hear, whattaya say?

I'm getting through the Talking Sopranos podcast atm. Michael Imperioli (Christopher) and Steve Schirripa (Bobby) do an episode by episode rewatch with some guest interviews telling how the show was put together. Really interesting listen.

Anyway I've said my piece.

Patriot - Season 1
A very odd dark comedy that is beautifully filmed. It's quite an engrossing watch and there's nothing else like it. The main character is constantly depressed, which does grate a bit, but other than that it's brilliant. 9/10
