Community is fan-fucking-tastic and anyone who thinks otherwise has issues.

Nearly at the end of out Parks and Rec rewatch and I still don't get why some people rave about it but it is undeniably solid entertainment.

Unlike Community, Parks and Rec was funny.

Parks and Rec is funny. it's a good show in a safe, standardised, often schmaltzy US sitcom way. And there's nothing wrong with that, people like comfort food.

Community is strawberry floating hilarious, whilst also being incredibly creative and looking to do things that other US shows wouldn't even try to.

Hmm, that's a toughie.

Parks & Rec, I feel, would definitely hold up better on a rewatch. Community has a greater number of standout episodes that stick in the mind, but it also has more forgettable ones too. Parks & Rec is more stable from a qualitative point of view with upticks of varying degrees here and there.

Think I just edge Parks and Rec over Community only because, as Drum says, it's consistently brilliant from the second season onwards. Community starts to crumble when it becomes clear that there's strawberry float all funding for it in the last couple of seasons.

I just don't get the "consistently brilliant" perspective on Parks & Rec. There are plenty of weaker episodes and generally I'd say there are only a couple of big laughs per show. It also has the Louis C.K. problem that really acts against it now. :dread:

The only season of Community that I would put below Parks is 4.

S1-3 of Community was better than anything in Parks & Rec.

I am finding S4 a struggle, it's watchable but it's not making me want to binge it like I did for the other seasons. But then Parks & Rec S1 is strawberry floating awful.

I'm actually not enjoying Parks and Rec 4 anywhere near as much as the earlier seasons. It's still really good but what they've done with Tom is horrible. He used to be a cheeky, lovable idiot but now he's an unlikable arsehole. I've only ever found his mate funny in tiny doses but now him and Tom are the same character and they're in it too much. I also feel like the Andy and April characters have run their course now and are just being zany for zany sake.

I'm now also deep into seasons 1 of both Community and Arrested Development and both are amazing.

How do people feel about Brooklyn 99? I loved it before it was first cancelled but I had to give up on the first Netflix season as I felt like all the characters had just warped into different versions of Jake and it became annoying.

I haven't watched any new B99 but I always enjoyed it up until the cancellation.

I loved Arrested Development for its initial lot of series, it just wasn’t the same once Netflix took it over. Re Brooklyn 99, I’ve watched a few episodes here and there and what I have watched were good but not got around to watching the rest yet, don’t think I’ve seen any of the Netflix produced ones though.

Yeah Arrested Development is a really tough watch when you get to the Netflix years. It genuinely made me wonder whether it was ever any good when I first watched season 4

So once I've watched the first three seasons, best to stop?

Community felt like a show written by a self aware reddit sub. Make of that what you will.

To be honest yes. Season 4 was okay but season 5 was so bad it made 4 retroactively worse.

I mean there's no harm in giving it a go, the worst that can happen is that you don't like it. But I would be surprised if you don't agree with the consensus view!

I’d give series 4 of Arrested Development a go, but don’t be surprised if you don’t like it anywhere near as much.
