The Circle UK isn't being renewed.

Bonkers considering the viewing numbers.

Apparently the filming was a mess, runners were sleeping in corridors and crying.

Jupiters Legacy - this super hero thing on Netflix.

A few good episodes. Suffers from what alot of these series get in that some of the story could have been condensed and the series cut by 2 or 3 episodes shorter. The "origin" strand is drawn out far too much. Some good characters across the age range and storylines have some really good potential - that a season 2 really begs for. Its a shame that the younger characters and thier storylines werent expanded. 7/10.

For All Mankind S1 - 9/10

I loved this, it's quite slow moving but is never less than gripping and the scenes on the Moon are even better than those Kubrick filmed in 1969.

I just wish I didn't know it was alt-history before I started watching, that opening scene would have been mind blowing if you didn't know in advance that the Russians got there first.

Shadow and Bone - 6.5/10 Entertaining enough without being spectacular. It does have a "young adult novel to TV/film" feel about it (not necessarily a good or bad thing). I'm interested enough in the plot to see where season 2 goes.

Please do not post this in the "No Context" thread

Sex Education S2 - 9/10

Finally got around to watching this after I had flown through the first series last year and then paused on going further. It's still a fantastic show that is clearly put together with a hell of a lot of heart and soul and it's just a joy to watch.

The characters are well developed from where we left them in S1 and watching it as an adult who is closer to being a parent to most of these kids than I am to actually being one of them (tragic times!) it's almost heart-breaking at times to watch on with a modicum of learned knowledge about relationships and see them making the same sorts of mistakes that we all did at that age! It manages to handle some genuinely serious topics with a degree of sensitivity - without ever over-doing them or stepping over into being preachy, and managing to maintain a strong element of humour throughout but not in a way that trivialises them or diminishes their importance.

Also I know that many people have complained about this aspect of it but I have to say I absolutely adore the setting and style that they have gone for - the anachronisms, the bizarre hybrid US/UK illustration of what education is like, the fact that it makes out that the UK is always warm and sunny and somehow manages to get away with it etc. I just love the look of this place! If nothing else I just enjoy the belief that at some point during production there was an internal discussion along the lines of:

"We want to make it feel like this is a place out of time so need to find a filming location that hasn't moved on much since the 1970s"

"Stick it in South Wales then!"

I was forced to sit through this, as it 'looked good'. Thought it was very YA (not a great thing) and pretty bang average. The amount of contrivance in each ep was ridiculous and most of the acting wasn't great. I think I've talked myself into below average here. 4/10.

I really do think Sex Education is the best thing I’ve watched on Netflix, its just fantastic from start to finish and I can’t wait for series 3 to be released. I do hope they have a clear end point in mind already, whether that be another series or 2 more (as before long all the main cast are going to look far too old for playing 17-18 year olds), just don’t have it stick around just for viewing figures, much better to go out on a high. There was a couple of points in series 2 where I felt I was welling up too, the writing and characters are just superb.

What are your thoughts on Issac anyway…….? :shifty:

Watching that at the moment and I agree about the origin bits, they could definitely have trimmed an episode or two without losing much.

Enjoying it though, not as good as The Boys but it's another decent take on the 'gritty superhero drama' genre.

Started watching Snowpiercer on Netflix the other day, 3 episodes in and I’m quite enjoying it so far, no idea if anyone else has watched it here or not.

We watched most of the first series but got bored and didn't finish it. Was alright, just better things came along and we didn't go back.

Snowpiercer, 5 miles long (external shots show it about 10 regular cars long).

Feels like a bit of a guilty pleasure but I have really enjoyed both series so far. It is ridiculous and very much on the nose but it's good fun.

I think I do remember dodgy external shots but I guess the budget increased for series 2 as it does get better in that respect!

We will go back to it, we just kind of forgot about it.

Another one we didn't finish was 'In to the night', which was about the sunlight killing everyone, so the only way to stay alive was to be on a plane and constantly fly around the world to stay in the dark.

Yeah the exterior CGI is definitely a bit ropey in the first series, the murder aspect of series 1 reminds me of a much more serious chapter 6 of Paper Mario TTYD  Just the mystery aspect with different class suspects.

I think Isaac was a great addition to the cast, a nice foil for Maeve and someone who could relate to her from the perspective of belonging to a broken/non-existent family unit (although of course everyone is portrayed as having some degree of flaw in their family setup it is certainly the case that Maeve is very much in a different category to everyone else in the first series.)

Whilst his moment at the end of the series can definitely be construed as a "dick move" I think it's more understandable when viewed purely from his perspective and not that of the audience. He's only really interacted with Otis once at his house party where he was a basically a twat to Maeve (and others) and so he doesn't really owe Otis anything at this point - internally he could probably justify his actions as protecting Maeve. But at the same time he clearly knows that they have a genuine connection and Maeve is absolutely still in love with him so yeah deleting the message was not a nice thing to do!

He is a very interesting character isn’t he and as you say, his one proper interaction with Otis makes Otis come across as a colossal prick to most people  (although as with a lot of stuff in the 2 series, it’s very relatable as nearly everyone has done something they regret hugely when drunk!). I can’t actually wait to see where series 3 picks up, not just with the main focus (and the deleted message) but the storyline between Jakob and Jean is also very good. It’s one of the few programmes, that so far at least I find very hard to fault any aspect of it.

Yeah the Jakob/Jean relationship has been really well done, and that's another one of the strengths of the show I think - they don't short change the characters surrounding the main few.

Just finished the first series of Snowpiercer, enjoyed it overall, probably watch something else before jumping straight into the second series. Think my favourite scene of the first series was Layton’s first experience of the night car, with a very nice cover of ‘Say it ain’t so, Jo’ that I’ve now listened to far too many times on YouTube already.
